This isn't going to solve the pandemic problems, but sounds like Nebraska is getting a commitment from the #1 or #2 ( depending on rating services) TE in the country. Will be officially announcing on the 26th.

Word is Nebraska wants out of the B1G Conference.

Not true.
Too much money and prestige in this conference both in football and academics.
They probably are tired of getting beat so much.

If a Nebraska, Ohio St. or Iowa wants to play 3 non conference games this Fall, what is the problem?

They can still fulfill their obligation to the Big10 schedule in the Spring.

Players want to play. Have them sign a waiver and let them play. Guys that still want to sit out, keep your scholarship and get ready for Spring games.

The stats are out there. You have a 99.7% chance of surviving Covid19.

And a very good chance of spreading it to someone else. Also the affer-effects don't sound too appealing. You really are a thick one.

If they stay home, they will have the same if not better chance of catching and spreading. Look at what happened to Oklahoma players.

As far as after effects, nobody has any definitive answers yet. Staying locked up at home has after effects too(suicide, abuse, depression, just to name a few)

Like Steve Lentz said, quit pretending you know anything.

No, they don't. That's just absurd.

And do you really think that we have had 150,000 additional suicides as a result of staying home.

We never had a chance of saving half of the 150000 lives. The virus was probably here in Dec/Jan/Feb. Nursing Homes in some areas never had a chance.

Think about these players for a second. In a controlled environment on a campus with mostly young people or back in urban areas where there is a good chance none are following the guidelines at all times. It has been one of the big problems on why we can't get in under control. Probably half of 18-25 year olds don't take it very seriously.

As far as the suicides, depression, assaults at home. I would say that it is easier a higher number than the number of young kids who have died from the virus.

Mark Anderson -> RE: College Football News (8/17/2020 5:17:17 PM)

One more thing. I'm saying just play 2-3 non conference games this Fall. Not a full schedule.

Mr. Ed -> RE: College Football News (8/17/2020 8:41:15 PM)

Saw this on Twitter tonight...FWIW..from some guy in Ohio

In a shocking turn of events, unless there is a drastic outbreak of cases in the next few days, the B1G will resume their college football season this fall, per source.

Expect an announcement later this week that the Big Ten will be playing again.

Easily could have save a huge chunk of the 170,000 who died. Europe has proven that. Most countries over there have a far greater population density than most of the US. Cramming all these kids together in one place, having them practice, sweat and hit each other just creates a huge incubator. Practice facilities become petri dishes. Then they go forth and spread it to the rest of their communities. Kind of like all the invincible young folks during spring break.

Suicides and depression vs young people dying or having lungs and hearts scarred? You'll have to show me actual numbers that show those things are occurring at a higher rate than normal this year.

I don't know how well college could contain the Virus, but so far it seems like all the pro sports have things under control. I know the Marlins had a very bad outbreak, but apparently, unless they're doing a great job covering it up, they caught it before it affected family and friends of the team and staff and everybody is recovering nicely. The NBA and NHL with bubbles are reporting no cases at all. The NFL weeded out potential problems upon opening training camps and it seems that everybody that had to be quarantined has now been released. My inkling is that college sports can safely be resumed. I could be wrong about that and need to know more.

TJSweens -> RE: College Football News (8/18/2020 11:09:30 AM)

Pro Sports that have operated with the bubble format have done well. Isolate players to an area and test them repeatedly before even beginning workouts.

Sports that are maintaining normal travel, but playing in empty stadiums are a different story. Baseball has had multiple teams shut down for periods of time due covid-19 outbreaks.

MLS has done well in its bubble phase, but now they are moving to a format like baseball. We'll see how it holds up.

And we haven't seen what will happen with the NFL once teams break camp and start traveling.

There isn't concrete evidence of either at the moment. Most of the articles I read say "may" cause lung or heart damage. Or to what extent. Is it the equivalent of vaping for a year(lungs) or eating red meat for every meal for a year(heart)? Pretty vague so far.

I remember when the babies were getting rashes and turning red. It was the apocalypse. Haven't heard a thing about it anymore.

Wait for the outrage when the negative income producing sports get cut.

You're right. It's going to get real ugly.

The beginning of the end...

The University of Iowa announced Friday that it is cutting four sports programs — men’s and women’s swimming, men’s gymnastics and men’s tennis — because of a pandemic-related budget shortfall.

The Hawkeyes had 24 sports programs but have trimmed that number to 20.

Iowa announced that with the Big Ten’s postponement of fall sports, its athletic department projects a $100 million budget deficit.

Athletic departments across the country have been cutting sports programs during the pandemic.

“We are heartbroken for our student-athletes, coaches and staff,” the University said in an open letter. “We also understand how disappointing this is for our letterwinners, alumni, donors and community members who have helped build these programs.”

Mr. Ed -> RE: College Football News (9/5/2020 4:21:56 PM)

The University of Utah athletic department will implement department-wide furloughs, including athletic director Mark Harlan, football coach Kyle Whittingham and men's basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak, Harlan said in a radio interview Friday.

"We've had to make some tough decisions because you can't wait for what might not happen," Harlan told ESPN 700 host Bill Riley.

Bill Jandro -> RE: College Football News (9/7/2020 8:50:36 AM)

Sounds like Kevin Warren whom firmly closed the door on fall B10 football is now back peddling to a possible Thanksgiving start.

Which unfortunately would make the B10 bowl ineligible.

When it comes to the pandemic and safety, it's all about the kids. When it comes to finances, it has nothing to do with the kids. These presidents speak out of both sides of their mouths. I wonder how much money the Social Sciences department brings in during a normal year? The reality is, the football program is what builds buildings on most (D1) campuses in America. The Texas football program makes about $92-million a year in profits. LSU, $58-million. Ohio State, $50-million. That's a lot of coin.

The 20 most profitable college football programs made $925-million combined after expenses.

I'd like to welcome LSU to the Pac 12. Mike Leach rolls up over 600 yards passing against LSU in his first game at Mississippi State. KJ Costello follows him from Stanford to play quarterback and breaks the SEC record for passing in a single game with 623 yards.

Forward passing

Is that where they toss the ball into the air and others catch it?

Kept thinking that while watching Saturday … its a new world and Mike Leach is teachin

Watching Leach light up LSU was arguably the most fun I have had watching sports in 2020. There isn't much there to compare it to, but that was awesome.

Leach could be very successful at Mississippi State because now he can attract high-profile defensive players to the SEC. He couldn't do that at Washington State.

Not saying it would be smart(possible injury) but could he play out the Bison schedule in the Spring and still enter draft?

Or would he be ineligible for draft?
