ORIGINAL: Steve Lentz Nothing but total respect for Sam Darnold as a QB and as a man. He will be a very good NFL player. He didn't take care of the ball tonight and just doesn't see a defense that plays like Ohio State. Pac 12 really struggling. USC battled the best they could but pretty much over matched physically. I've gotta ask again, and welcome Steve and Brad's input because all of you probably know more than I do. Why? I've seen Darold play about 3 full games this year. I realize that's not a full resume so my opinion should be limited. That being said, he's been the same guy. Crap decisions and not that impressive. NFL guy, sure. #1 overall? I don't see it. He's looked like a hyped up #1 who should go 3-5 round. I've appreciated Brad's input but he does (willing to admit or not) have a USC bias. If this guy went to OSU what is the opinion? Forget the "he has no WR's" talk for a minute. Neither did ML and he sucked. At some point you can't make shit decisions and turn it over. Not gonna lie, I didn't see any of the game. I was in-between road trips and never paid attention. Only thing I saw was the final score. It will be interesting to see what Darnold does. Josh Rosen is a very talented kid with all the mechanics the NFL scouts are looking for. Darnold is more of a gunslinger, which can sometimes lead to turnovers and poor decisions. The bottom line is, I'll take a gunslinger/risk-taker over a book worm any day of the week. As I've been saying all season long, USC was not a talented team this year. Maybe the worst set of wide receivers I've seen in a few decades. The offensive line was not very good. The defense was decent, but Darnold was forced to try and score on every set of downs to keep pace with opponents. It leads to turnovers and (perceived) bad decisions. At the end of the day, he's got a great arm, tremendous pocket presence, great vision and good footwork. If there is one thing I'd like to see more from Darnold it would be his leadership skills. He's not a very vocal guy and mild-mannered. I'd like my leader to be a bit more demanding of the guys around him. I thought you said you would have USC as a final 4 team?[;)] Busted I'm pretty sure I've been honest about USC all season long. I have admitted flaws throughout. I thought this was a great year for an 8-team playoff. I thought they wouldn't get embarrassed by any of the top-4 teams and thought that either them, Ohio State or Penn State would have created a great match-up for any of the final four teams on any given Saturday. Given the schedule USC played, they had a better resume than Alabama. So did Ohio State and Penn State. Alabama making the final four was equal to a sponsorship exemption on the PGA Tour. And truth is, with four weeks off, it wouldn't shock me if they beat Clemson. But lets not pretend like Alabama did anything on the field to deserve a final four appearance. They played one very good team all season and lost, CONVINCINGLY. The Big 10 was just really strong at the top. They beat each other and kept themselves from being in the final 4. Both Penn state and Ohio State could beat anyone on any given day. Neither you or I are fans of Wisconsin, but they play good sound defense and have a great TE and a great frosh RB. I was confident they could handle Miami. Your theory on the team with the better QB winning is often correct, but I thought the PAC 12 didn't measure up defensively this year and that would be their downfall.
