ORIGINAL: Dave Odle Manziel is simply more of a wild card pick. He's very boom or bust. That's why I described him as reckless, but it still seems to work for him. Now, the size will work against him to a degree, especially if he relies on running like he has in college. It all depends on where he is available in the draft. I'm not sure I would risk a top 10 pick on him, but I might grab him in the bottom of the first or top of the second. We are able to maneuver quite a bit w/ our upcoming pick and Bridgewater and Mariotta might be taken 1and 2 just like Luck and RGIII. If that's the case, you have to get more creative. As I said before, Manziel seems to exude a confidence and swagger that the others might not. Our team needs that alpha personality more than the other teams right now. I've watched tons of A&M games. My father, uncle, brother-in-law, and lots of other family went to A&M and I was born in College Station. The point is that I've heard lots of noise over the years about players who will do well at the next level from friends and family, but nothing like this guy. The real problem is that A&M grads and fans tend to be a humble crowd and Johnny Football's reputation is embarrassing to them, despite the highest ranking in years. I'm not crazy about Manziel's personality, but it beats a whiny bitch like Jay Cutler. Edit: And for what it's worth, Mike Vick is 6'0" and 215 pounds, so the size isn't too much of a problem. Just like every QB whose scrambling gets him out of trouble, you better figure out the when and where better at the next level. The kid's got an arm, confidence, and success that no other A&M QB brought to the table; so you know it can't be considered a system QB issue. Good post Dave. I like Manziel. He has a moxie about him that bodes well in an NFL huddle. Plus, the excitement he would bring from a fan and national media standpoint would be a nice shot in the arm while playing at TCF the next 2 years. If Bridgewater and Mariota go one-two and we're picking third it will be an interesting quandry. It would be insane to pass up Clowney although no way does Manziel slip past say 15 in the the draft. I think I would take Clowney and pray Manziel slips some so we don't have to morg too much to get back into the 1st rd to get him. I'm not a big fan of trading up and losing all those picks when we have so many holes to fill. However, a franchise qb is the most important piece to the puzzle and not sure I like any qb beyond those 3 in the first rd. I would settle for a Murray or Miller in the 2nd if we netted Clowney.
