Not impressed with Mariota, AT ALL ! He is too reliant on running. He hits open WRs, and might only be a slight upgrade over Ponder. My guess is Mariota will be a bust.

Bridgewater looks impressive, maybe a more skilled Cam Newton. I wonder what Bridgewater's personality is like. Is he a prima donna, or a guy that teammates really like and can get them to play for him ?

Manziel

I hope Bridgewater and Mariota go 1 and 2, and that the Vikes are NOT picking 1 or 2. I think Manziel is the best of them, and will be the best pro. Manziel impresses me more because he hits just about every throw imaginable. He seems to have a better pocket presence of the 3, and he seems to know where most defenders are. Because of that, he makes calculated throws that seem unlikely to get intercepted. He hits WR much more often in stride than Mariota, they rarely have to lay out to catch his passes, just catch it and keep running.

If it's slow and choppy, it's your computer or personal connection. Not the interwebs or even the server. Runs smooth as silk for me.

Works VERY well for me, with very nice picture quality.

Yep, works perfect for me as well.

Thanks Justin!

Every analyst I've seen talk of him says the same. Also, pretty humble guy considering the circumstances. He is very connected to his mom.

You think Mariota runs too much? What about Manziel??? Last year Mariota had 106 rushes compared to Manziels 201. Nearly 2-1 difference. This season Mariota = 56 and Manziel = 96.
INT's this season: Mariota = 0; Manziel = 8.

marty -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/5/2013 8:00:24 PM)

From what I've seen of Manziel, he isn't reliant on runs, it's more to keep the defense honest. His runs seem to be for short gains, or getting a 1st down when it seems likely he can pick it up. It appears Manziel is also running a lot less this year, he's picking his spots.

How many INTs did Manziel have last year ? I think he's working a lot harder this year as his defense has gotten quite a bit worse.

It's impressive that Mariota hasn't thrown any INTs, maybe his defense doesn't put as much pressure on him ? I see he has quite a bit fewer pass attempts than Manziel.

I go by what my eyes see, and I see Manziel as a much more complete QB. Mariota is just this years' flavor of the day. Some want to forget about Manziel because of the autograph thing, and discount last year. I think if this year were Manziel's 1st year, he'd be more in the conversation of the top QBs, and he also wouldn't be compared to his own previous season.

From what I've seen of Manziel,

Be honest, how many of Manziel's games have you watched?

The guy ran for 1400 effing yards last year, but you say he only runs to keep the defense honest? Seriously, wtf. He's got triple the interceptions of Bridgewater, much less Mariotta, but you think he's less likely to be intercepted.

You know you can actually check things out before you type them to see if reality matches your fantasies. Just saying.

Marty must have blacked out when Johnny Football would break contain, and start running for all those 1400 yards.

Cause lord knows he was watching Ryan Swope closely last year......[;)]

Dave Odle -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/6/2013 2:05:36 PM)

Manziel is simply more of a wild card pick. He's very boom or bust. That's why I described him as reckless, but it still seems to work for him. Now, the size will work against him to a degree, especially if he relies on running like he has in college. It all depends on where he is available in the draft. I'm not sure I would risk a top 10 pick on him, but I might grab him in the bottom of the first or top of the second. We are able to maneuver quite a bit w/ our upcoming pick and Bridgewater and Mariotta might be taken 1and 2 just like Luck and RGIII. If that's the case, you have to get more creative. As I said before, Manziel seems to exude a confidence and swagger that the others might not. Our team needs that alpha personality more than the other teams right now.

I've watched tons of A&M games. My father, uncle, brother-in-law, and lots of other family went to A&M and I was born in College Station. The point is that I've heard lots of noise over the years about players who will do well at the next level from friends and family, but nothing like this guy. The real problem is that A&M grads and fans tend to be a humble crowd and Johnny Football's reputation is embarrassing to them, despite the highest ranking in years.

I'm not crazy about Manziel's personality, but it beats a whiny bitch like Jay Cutler.

Edit:

And for what it's worth, Mike Vick is 6'0" and 215 pounds, so the size isn't too much of a problem. Just like every QB whose scrambling gets him out of trouble, you better figure out the when and where better at the next level. The kid's got an arm, confidence, and success that no other A&M QB brought to the table; so you know it can't be considered a system QB issue.

That's right about where I put him also. A lot of people either love him or hate him, but he's a solid pick IMO. A couple of things keep him out of my franchise category, but also too many positives to drop him down very far.

Good post Dave. I like Manziel. He has a moxie about him that bodes well in an NFL huddle. Plus, the excitement he would bring from a fan and national media standpoint would be a nice shot in the arm while playing at TCF the next 2 years.

If Bridgewater and Mariota go one-two and we're picking third it will be an interesting quandry. It would be insane to pass up Clowney although no way does Manziel slip past say 15 in the the draft. I think I would take Clowney and pray Manziel slips some so we don't have to morg too much to get back into the 1st rd to get him.

I'm not a big fan of trading up and losing all those picks when we have so many holes to fill. However, a franchise qb is the most important piece to the puzzle and not sure I like any qb beyond those 3 in the first rd. I would settle for a Murray or Miller in the 2nd if we netted Clowney.

Well I know who I wouldn't bet on...

Ed_Marotske -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/6/2013 3:18:17 PM)

I think with our first round pick we have to take the best QB on the board.....If Manziel were still around in the 3rd round, I might take a flyer on him.  I just don't see him lasting until then.  Someone is going to pick him up...and I wouldn't at all be surprised if a team like NE picked him up late in the 1st.  I have nothing to base that on, but Manziel sure looks like a kid Belecheck might want to see what he can do with.  yes, they still have Mallet on their roster I believe, so there is no real need....but stranger things have happened.

Bill Jandro -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/6/2013 4:27:06 PM)

I can't see Manziel lasting past the top 20 let alone the 3rd rd. It would have to be a fall from grace of Clarice Morret proportions.

Just saying if Bridgewater and Mariota are gone I take Clowney. No way am I pulling a Spielman and reaching for a qb with the 3rd pick if none are worthy.

Todd M -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/6/2013 4:46:52 PM)

Changed my mind. Gotta get a QB.
