How
In
The
Hell
do you drop a TD ball BEFORE you get to the end zone, as you're coasting in, on an easy one?
This has happened WAY too many times the past couple years.
There's dumb mistakes, and then there's THAT dumb mistake, which pretty much trumps em all.

I expect the Gophers to make a ge of it this weekend

I'm surprised we went into East Lansing and pretty much smacked MSU in the mouth

We need help but this Buckeye team is completely different than Barrett's second start

Lots of NFLers on this Buckeye team

It really depends on which Leidner shows up.  Decent Leidner or [:-]

Steve Lentz -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/9/2014 11:12:49 AM)

Ohio State put 49 points on one of the better defenses around. Barrett is developing into easily one of the most dangerous offensive players in the country. I didn't think Michigan State could beat them and very few teams would want to play them right now.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/9/2014 11:15:20 AM)

How OSU isn't getting final four talk is beyond me.  That loss to Va Tech was bad but it wasn't earth shattering by any means.

I would have bet a lot of money .... that no one in the country would put 49 on the board vs MSU in their back yard
That's shocking to me.
MSU is a pretty damn tough bunch. To be beat down like that at home better make people take a hard look at OSU.

Good entertainment value though.

Not interested in what LSU has done over the last decade; that doesn't help them win games right now. I saw a slow, plodding team with a highly inaccurate quarterback. It was like watching a slow boxer, who knows he doesn't have any legs or a jab, invite another slow, no legs fighter to engage in a fistfight - it sounds good, in reality is just ugly.

Now, again, both teams can easily be in transition years and the announcers repeatedly said that the coaches didn't take the reigns off either quarterback. But that said, neither were impressive. And LSU dropped the ball BIG TIME by blowing that first and goal at the 6 with a minute left and then the absolute choke job by the kicker, who I'm sure was told to be a pussy and squib kick at an angle.

FSU just keeps winning.. nothing you can say about that. Style points don't matter for shit, especially when youre one of two legit unbeaten teams left.

Oregon does what Oregon does, just steamroll people. They'll be in the playoffs for sure - they'll beat the Pac 12 south team in the PAC12CG.

That TCU is a monster that nobody is watching. Theyre special. If theyre the 4th seed in the playoffs, number 1 better not be FSU; they cant let TCU get ahead and expect to come back and win.

Whomever represents the SEC is one and done. It doesn't even matter at this point - one team, two teams, the whole field (not). Based on what I saw today/tonight, theyre all marginal with a lot of historical hype driving their rankings and reputation.

So style points count if your LSU, but don't count if your FSU?

LSU lost. Again. FSU is the defending national champion that hasn't lost since 2012.

So, your question doesn't compute.

They may jump a bit in the rankings. But, I don't have them in the playoffs conversation, yet. But if they win out, they'll get in before a two loss SEC team.

Style points are style points. LSU isn't undefeated, but is universally ranked a top 16 team or better, and just lost a nail biter to a top 5 team. In a team (LSU) winning 80% of it's games, you "saw a slow, plodding team with a highly inaccurate quarterback. It was like watching a slow boxer, who knows he doesn't have any legs or a jab, invite another slow, no legs fighter to engage in a fistfight - it sounds good, in reality is just ugly." Clearly even though LSU is one of the better teams in the country, style points (or lack of) are important to you here. Yet you clearly stated "FSU just keeps winning.. nothing you can say about that. Style points don't matter for shit"

So do style points matter for shit, or don't they?

Ian Joseph -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/9/2014 3:41:10 PM)

Style points don't matter. But, a shit football game is a shit football game.

So, again, I'm not getting the corellation between what FSU has done to the abysmal game that was Alabama/LSU.

djskillz -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/9/2014 3:55:31 PM)

It's funny how differently people see things. I'm with Pete; I actually came away MORE impressed with Alabama. I thought there was an excellent chance they lose in one of the toughest environments in college football (a night game at LSU). But they hung in there and gutted it out. Nothing that has happened has made me not believe Alabama is the best team in the country this year. Their only loss, in a brutal schedule, is a tough road loss to Ole Miss, who is also one of the top 8 teams or so in the country, at least.

The Oregon game really was crazy. Will be interesting to see who wins between them and ASU in the Pac12. FSU certainly has looked very weak all year playing the easiest schedule of any of the "contenders". I too think they rise to the occasion in a big game, but can they do it twice this year? They'll need to. The defenses for Utah/Oregon/ASU are just very weak IMO.

TCU was impressive. Wasn't shocked at the Ohio State game at all. People have been sleeping on Urban Meyer too much. He's still one of the top 2 coaches in the country with Saban. The dude wins everywhere he goes. That's not coincidence.

Lots of football left, but at this point the top 4 should be Miss St, FSU, Alabama, and Oregon. Honestly I'd put FSU 4th right now, just based on schedule, and only barely above TCU. I could still see any of ASU/Ohio State/Baylor/Ole Miss sneaking in though. Glad to see overrated ND lose, and handily.

Ian, this is basically what I was referring to. I still think a LOT of teams end up with 2 losses this year. I think Miss St loses at least one more, Bama certainly could, Oregon/ASU both could, and TCU/Baylor certainly could as well. FSU probably won't with their schedule, but if they have even 1 loss with their schedule they better be out. It wouldn't completely shock me if they lost to either Miami or Florida still as well.

I'd double down with Pete on the wager for an SEC team in the first rd of the playoffs, basically no matter who it is and no matter who they're playing.

djskillz -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/9/2014 4:00:15 PM)

Oh, and Pete, I've been circling that Texas game for TCU as well. I think that could easily be a loss at Texas. Strong's bunch will continue to come together as the year goes on. Baylor could still easily lose to KSU too. Defense certainly isn't everything, but I just think if you're allowing 50-60 points in a football game, you're probably not a "great" team.

McMurfy -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/9/2014 5:15:20 PM)

I think God Awful shit QB play in the SEC perpetuates the myth of the great SEC defense.
While the opposite occurs in the Pac-12, great QB play perpetuates the myth of poor Pac-12 defenses.

McMurfy -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/9/2014 5:16:19 PM)

I would love to see a Final Four of

Alabama
Oregon
TCU
Ohio State

Who is Matt Cassell starting for?

If you are trying to show the Pac 10s QB superiority over the SEC, who would you rather have:

Pac-12 6 Andrew Luck (Stanford), Jake Locker (Washington), Nick Foles (Arizona), Aaron Rodgers (Cal), Carson Palmer (USC)

SEC 5 Peyton Manning (Tennessee), Eli Manning (Ole Miss), Jay Cutler (Vanderbilt), Matthew Stafford (Georgia), Cam Newton (Auburn)

Seems like a toss up

Pac-12 - 1, 8, 9, 25, 30
SEC - 2, 11, 12, 22, 26

Sheesh Murf I'm a huge Oregon guy, and even I can't begin to fight the PAC 12's cause until they start winning National Championships in bunches.

djskillz -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/9/2014 8:06:49 PM)

Exactly. Now do the same thing for defensive positions in the NFL. I bet the SEC dominates. That's not spin. Passion = money = recruiting = better talent/better teams. It's just tough to deny at this point. And the gap continues to get wider.

Miss St has to travel to Bama yet this year. That game will decide which team makes the final 4

Pac 12 Oregon/ASU

Big ten OSU if they win out

Big 8 TCU if they win out

FSU is most likely already punched their ticket so one out of the 4 scenarios above doesn't make the dance.
