Severino and Judge probably will not get you Cueto. Probably not.

but one or the other may, may get you Kazmir.

If Reds GM says he's taking offers -behind the scenes- for Cueto, he would probably get more than Severino and Judge from other interested GMs.

Pablo Sandoval is being benched Thursday for violating the Red Sox's social media policy.
Sandoval was "liking" provocative photos of a woman on Instagram during Wednesday's loss to the Braves. He acknowledged to reporters Thursday that he grabbed his phone before taking a between-innings bathroom break. "I let my teammates down," said Sandoval. "It ain't going to happen again. I'll take the punishment."

Pablo Sandoval has made his Instagram account private. The woman whose pictures he liked has more than doubled her followers.

Stacey, what would be your offer for one of the catchers discussed? Or where other than Lowrie would you look for SS? I always like your trade scenarios.

Apparently Mr. Sandoval ain't Master of his Domain and would never win a contest.

There was way too much information in Stacey's post.[&o]

So now he can in-game like pics w/o getting busted?

Another quality BoSox signing.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/19/2015 9:26:18 AM)

The chances of seeing Omar Infante suit up for the American League All-Star squad are getting slimmer by the hour. On Thursday, MLB Advanced Media CEO Bob Bowman announced the cancellation of between 60 and 65 million ballots for the upcoming All-Star Game. The decision was made after Royals fans (and probably other fans looking to create chaos) exploited the online voting system earlier this week, putting a total of eight Kansas City players in line to start for the American League. While 60 million votes sounds like a sizable chunk of the 300-some million ballots that have been collected so far, Bowman insisted that the 20 percent cut was on par with results from previous seasons.

Nevertheless, MLB still stands to gain an additional 200 million votes by the deadline on July 2, 2015, providing a wide berth for fans who haven’t yet figured out how to capitalize on their voting impact with false email addresses or rudimentary hacking skills. Even after MLB culled the suspicious-looking ballots, Royals players appeared to have the edge on many deserving competitors, including Tigeres slugger Miguel Cabrera and Astros second baseman Jose Altuve.

Balancing the All-Star election process would require limiting fan input, but that doesn’t appear to be a step MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is willing to take. "In general over time fans have done a pretty good job," he told the press on Tuesday. "We’ll see how it all turns out." Should Manfred change his mind, he wouldn't be the first commissioner to interfere with the All-Star selection

Matt really needs to stop stuffing the ballot for his beloved Royals.

I don't get that kind of "loyalty" to a team. Average/below average guys and you want them to start the AS game?
Which is "fairly" important for home-field advantage(which I think is stupid as well, but that's another subject).

That would be the true irony. The AL loses the AS game with a couple Royals' mistakes and then they end up in the WS again, without homefield advantage.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/19/2015 9:40:33 AM)

Wouldn't a full, functioning team ... one of the best teams (as the Royales are) ... beat an AS team most days?
I'd think so.

I cannot believe some team's fans haven't done this:

NL fans should be stuffing the box if they truly want their team to have the homefield advantage.

A guy like Schafer is on the ballot. Way too easy to vote him in. Guess there hasn't been an effort to vote for the mediocre guys in the other league.

Certainly possible. I don't know that that's the case in baseball as much as basketball/football/hockey though. You're still at the plate by yourself, defending your position by yourself for the most part, on the bases by yourself, etc. An interesting debate for sure.

[&:][&:] I've never thought of that. Great idea. Really the same concept as an open primary in a presidential election.

I'm thinking along the lines of "best" hitters vs "best" pitching.

And as good as KC is, not all their guys are "best".

But you make a very good point. They could handle an All-star team with that defense, if the pitching is decent.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/19/2015 9:44:34 AM)

True. The individual nature of baseball would be different, for sure.

Exactly.

Why no one has tried that is beyond me.

There are always guys on the ballot that shouldn't be.

Subtle things like that would make MLB execs pull their hair out.

Nixon's dirty tricks group lives on!!

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/19/2015 9:47:36 AM)

In other news, ARod goes for hit 3,000 tonight. Can become one of 3 guys in history with 3,000 hits and 600 HR. Roids or no, one hell of an accomplishment.

And for all the hate I've lobbed his way in the past, I feel the same way about him as a player as I did about Bonds; steroids or not, those are probably the 2 best players I ever saw play in my lifetime. Mike Trout or some of these other guys may end up changing that.

Edit: for some reason that made me look up Ted Williams again, who I still think is the greatest hitter that ever lived. How's this for a stat?

At FORTY ONE (his last year) he had an OPS of 1.096. At FORTY ONE! He dipped below a 1.000 OPS exactly once in his entire career, the year prior. And in an era with way tougher pitching rules. Just imagine his numbers if he didn't lose basically 5 prime years to the wars. Amazing. He's easily the best hitter ever IMO.

A-Rod has kept a fairly low profile, for A-Rod, this season.
Don't think the ego has been checked with the suspension, but the accomplishments are impressive.

Again, roids or not.
Personally, I have thought, for a long time, that he was nuts to do the roids in the first place?

Why? such a natural talent.

Ditto Barry.
