This one is going to hurt.

This one will be the most glowing indictment on the Twins organization yet.

Twins will simply dismiss it and say they tried to get Meyer to do the same thing but he wouldn't listen. The day that the Twins organization realizes that the problem isn't that their message isn't getting across to their players, the problem is in their message. When they finally realize that, they can move forward. And I have complete faith that such realization won't happen unless this dead organization brings in someone from the outside to run its baseball operations.

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker had surgery Sunday night to stop additional bleeding in his skull after getting hit in the head by a line drive.

Shoemaker had the procedure late Sunday at Seattle's University of Washington Medical Center, and athletic trainer Adam Nevala is staying with him until he is able to travel to Southern California.

Angels general manager Billy Eppler provided the update Monday in Oakland, saying Shoemaker had been receiving CT scans every 2/3 hours when the third image showed increased bleeding. That's when surgery was determined the next step.

He told reporters Monday that the surgery was successful and that Shoemaker is speaking and recovering.

Shoemaker was diagnosed with a small skull fracture and a hematoma Sunday after being hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager.

In his first start back from the disabled list due to elbow soreness, Stephen Strasburg exited in the contest after throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Strasburg winced after his second-to-last pitch (as MASNsports.com’s Mark Zuckerman tweets) and was visited by pitching coach Mike Maddux and Nationals trainer Paul Lessard before leaving the mound and being replaced by left-hander Sean Burnett.

Following Strasburg’s initial placement on the disabled list, it was reported that his DL stint was precautionary and that the 28-year-old would have continued pitching were the postseason already at hand. He returned in just over the minimum 15 days and looked sharp tonight in his first outing prior to his exit. In 2 1/3 innings, he held the Braves scoreless on a pair of hits with no walks and four strikeouts, running his fastball up to 97 mph along the way.

Dodgers left-hander Scott Kazmir exited his rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City tonight after experiencing a recurrence of the same neck pain and ribcage pain that initially landed him on the disabled list, reports J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group. The 32-year-old is traveling back to Los Angeles to be reevaluated, he adds.

Well well well. Sounds like over-rest and precaution is what ended up CAUSING an injury. I can almost guarantee he would still be healthy if they hadn't messed with his schedule.

4-1 loss
0-2 now.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/8/2016 8:37:25 AM)

In early August, Mets GM Sandy Alderson actually joked about the Mets’ chances of signing Tim Tebow. From the New York Post:

“Are you insinuating we need a Hail Mary at this point?” Alderson said when asked if he would check out the former Jets quarterback. “That’s not something we’ve given a lot of thought to. I’d say it’s probably unlikely, but that’s without any real information on his baseball background. We’ll keep an open mind.”

Not a bad line for Meyer, though - considering they are just working on stretching him out now:

IP H R ER BB K
3.1 1 1 1 4 5

The walks are concerning. But only 1 hit and 5 K in 3.1 IP. Showed good damage control, which our guys rarely accomplish.

Meyer goes 3.1IP

Bullpen allowed the run to score.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/8/2016 3:34:47 PM)

Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg, who had an MRI today after exiting last night’s start in the third inning, has been diagnosed with a flexor mass strain, head athletic trainer Paul Lessard told reporters, including MASNsports.com’s Dan Kolko (Twitter link). On the positive side, he does not have any damage to the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow.

While that assessment rules out Tommy John surgery, the injury is still notable, and there’s no immediate timeline for his return to action. However, the Washington Post’s Chelsea Janes notes (Twitter links) that Lessard doesn’t feel the injury will end Strasburg’s season — though he also couldn’t definitely state that the key righty would be back.

The flexor mass strain is a fairly common pitching injury, but its outlook depends quite a bit on the situation. Andrew Miller, for instance, only missed about a month earlier this year — though he likely had a shorter road back as a reliever. But more severe forms of the injury can require surgery, as was the case previously for Homer Bailey. The injury more or less ended Cliff Lee’s career. And flexor mass problems can be a precursor to Tommy John surgery, as occurred this year with Carson Smith.

I think he can be effectively wild. Hitters can't get comfortable. They should have left Berrios alone and let him be effectively wild at 97 instead of better control and hittable at 92.

Rays just got screwed! The fix is in for the Yanks. WOW! Yankees pitcher clearly balked by starting his motion and stopping. Runner at 3rd awarded home. Tie game. Girardi comes out to argue....I don't even know what....and the umps confer....and say No Balk! Runner sent back to 3rd. 2 outs, and the batter quickly makes an out. Yanks hold their 1 run lead. Sad.

Pretty excited for the future. And by future I mean next season.

They sold before the deadline, but have actually played better.

Obviously I am biased, but I do try to be objective, Girardi is a fantastic manager.
