Could have written that story myself, years ago.
Nothing changes unfortunately.

Nope. Year to year.

One of my summer buddies I've told you about has driven off 10 varsity kids in another town. Didn't even go out this year. yet no one sees it as a big deal.

Their best player?

you got it.

His daughter. [:D]

At least she is now. There's no one else left.

Well then, it's working out very well for him.

Best player on a 1-win team.

Wheeee!

It's working out very well for him.

Indeed. He's getting what he deserves.

Sometimes, karma, she is a bee-otch.

Very interesting acknowledgement yesterday
When talking about Sterling Martes failed drug test ...
The Cubs Antony Rizzo admitted he hasn't been tested.
Interesting.

Future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter and former Florida governor Jeb Bush have both been previously reported as potential buyers for the Marlins, but the two have now teamed up in their pursuit of the franchise, reports Douglas Hanks of the Miami Herald. The primary competitor for the Bush-Jeter group appears to by New York financier Wayne Rothbaum, according to Hanks, though other groups could yet be involved in the pursuit.

Whoops

Giants ace Madison Bumgarner is headed to the 10-day DL after injuring himself in a dirt bike accident, the team announced. He is said to have suffered bruised ribs along with “a grade one or two left shoulder AC sprain.”

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/21/2017 3:52:23 PM)

The Rangers announced today that they have released outfielder Josh Hamilton from the minor-league deal that the sides struck during the offseason. Per the club, Hamilton suffered another knee injury during his rehabilitation efforts and will again require surgery.

15 years after Jeff Kent injured himself "washing his car" winkwinkwink
Bad memories for us Giant fans.

Dirt bike? What is it with these guys? Paid millions upon millions to play baseball, and they are messing around on dirt bikes??? I'm not saying they're not allowed to have fun. But since these are guaranteed contracts, if you do something that ridiculous causing injury, the team should automatically have the right to renegotiate the contract or be awarded on-the-spot arbitration for the remaining years of the contract.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2017 8:26:47 AM)

The Orioles are quietly 12-4
Good club again

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2017 4:33:08 PM)

Would expect some griping to start in KC soon.
Headed to 7-11 after todays loss in Texas.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2017 5:04:32 PM)

STL pitchers drove in 6 runs this weekend.

Compare that to the Twins lower hitters Only Rosario compares favorably.

The wheels have come completely off, and passed up the bus, in KC
What the hell is going on there?

I thought this was year 4 of DYNASTY

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/25/2017 8:06:16 AM)

Most general managers don’t overreact after just three weeks of games. But that doesn’t mean they don’t take the first month of performances seriously and start to prepare for potential trades. History tells us not a lot of deals get done at the end of April or beginning of May, but the new generation of GMs is aggressive about making moves, and we’ll see major moves made in May or June, long before the trade deadline at the end of July.

Take the Toronto Blue Jays and the dismal start to their season. You can attribute some of that to having no Edwin Encarnacion, but most of what has gone wrong for them has happened since Opening Day, not as a matter of design. They’ve suffered a barrage of injuries removing two of the best starters (Aaron Sanchez and J.A. Happ) and their best hitter (Josh Donaldson). They’ve gotten horrendous starts from both veterans Jose Bautista and Russell Martin, added to their usual lack of offensive production at first base and left field. Throw in the fact that only one team in the live-ball era has started the season 5-13 (the Jays' record through Sunday) and made the postseason -- the 1951 New York Giants -- and you have a strong case for the Blue Jays’ front office to walk into the boardroom and start trade talks now.

Their bullpen rivals MN for ineptitude.

Went quickly from a loaded franchise to a scuffling one.
Its early, but they are nowhere near as scary as they were.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/25/2017 4:17:58 PM)

The group of buyers led by Derek Jeter and Jeb Bush has reportedly won the auction to purchase the Miami Marlins.

Scott Soshnick of Bloomberg reported the auction results. Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Marlins "are moving forward with the Jeb Bush/Jeter group and are optimistic deal will be reached for sale."

Jackson noted the sale price as $1.3 billion and added Bush would be the controlling owner with Jeter having an "active role." Forbes estimated the Marlins' value at $940 million.

Problems for the King

top starter Felix Hernandez departed the game with what manager Scott Servais said after the game was a “dead arm” (Twitter link via Divish), leaving Detroit and headed back to Seattle to get looked at by doctors, with Hernandez’s shoulder apparently the primary area of focus. Divish tweets that Hernandez asked not to speak to the media before leaving the clubhouse and was “visibly upset” upon exiting.

Torn Labrum?

I like Felix a lot. Sad if that is the case. A bum shoulder derailed Johan Santana's career. I would hate to see this be the case with Felix

He has already submitted to 2 tests this season. He claims that what changed for him is that when he played in South Korea, he adopted an extensive stretching routine. Isn't that what Joe Mauer does? [sm=scratch.gif]

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/26/2017 12:15:48 PM)

It was a "let's jump to conclusions" joke Kerry.

Every year guys jump out of the bushes.
The Colorado SS last year was the target.
In a couple weeks life will return to normal.
Scouts make sure of that.
Well, good scouts do, anyway.

Maybe he figured out the strike zone a little better than before, since it was his last shot?

Rather interesting he's already been tested a couple of times, and some guys haven't at all.
