Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius underwent an MRI October 11th that revealed a ligament tear in his right elbow, manager Aaron Boone revealed to reporters October 12th. He’ll require Tommy John surgery to repair the injury, and an exact timeline on his return is presently uncertain, though rehab for position players is shorter than it is for pitchers. Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News writes that Boone expressed a belief that Gregorius could return in time “to play the bulk of the season with us,” and she further tweets that GM Brian Cashman suggested a “summer” return for Gregorius is possible.

The Yanks will need to upgrade their SS position for the 1st half of next season or they'll likely fall out of contention for the division title before Didi even returns.

Been wondering why no Girardi talk ...
Sounds like he'll only take a Chicago job.
Of which two may open up pretty damn soon.

Saw an article that NYY should go after Mad Baum this offseason

Another where Greinke is available. And 5 teams that should go after him. MN was not one of them, of course.

At meetings this week, @MLB GMs expected to consider eliminating trade waivers and moving to a uniform trade deadline, possibly in mid-August. Change would require union approval. @MLBNetwork

I don't understand the point. Leave it like it is. Allows for more creativity.

Makes it easier for computer geeks to take the guess work out of that also.

MLBPA executive director Tony Clark and several major league players have taken Boston Red Sox special adviser Bill James to task for saying players are as important to the game as "beer vendors" and that "the game would go on" with whoever replaces them.

In a series of tweets, some of which were later deleted, James challenged on social media "to explain why a player making $3 million a year is underpaid" and why it's "disingenuous to argue that [players] are taking money out of the mouths of concessions workers."

"If the players all retired tomorrow, we would replace them," James continued. "The game would go on; in three years it would make no difference whatsoever. The players are NOT the game, any more than the beer vendors are."

The Red Sox issued a statement saying James' comments "absurd" and "inappropriate."

James' comments drew the ire of Clark and players past and present, including Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander.

"The comments Bill James made yesterday are both reckless and insulting considering our game's history regarding the use of replacement players," Clark said in a statement issued Thursday. "The Players ARE the game. And our fans have an opportunity to enjoy the most talented baseball Players in the world every season.

"If these sentiments resonate beyond this one individual, then any challenges that lie ahead will be more difficult to overcome than initially anticipated."

Sabathia signed with the Yankees for 1 year, $8 million, and then he will supposedly retire. Should wear an Indians cap on his HOF plaque, but will probably be a Yankees cap.

Did some of your story get cut out?

Andujar, Ohtani or Torres for AL Rookie of the Year? I don't like any of these finalists.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/12/2018 10:17:24 AM)

Acuna is my choice for NL Rookie of the Year.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/12/2018 5:43:57 PM)

Yes! Acuna wins in a relative landslide. Probably shoulda been closer.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/12/2018 5:51:06 PM)

Ohtani wins in a blowout. I'm a little confused. Andujar, as much as I hate the Yankees, looked like the clear choice to me. Ohtani was injured so much. And he was just an average pitcher, and a decent DH. Kinda weird result IMO.

Hype won out over results

Yankees acquired James Paxton today. But they gave up too much.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/19/2018 5:08:30 PM)

Kurt Suzuki signs a big deal with the Nats. He somehow started hitting after we got rid of him. I remember him as the human black hole in our lineup.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/19/2018 5:18:04 PM)

Baltimore hires Yale graduate and former Astros assistant GM Mike Elias as their GM. What's with all these youngsters going gray so early? Is it because he is stressed?

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/19/2018 5:21:17 PM)

The Orioles were 12-29 in one-run games. They were better than their record.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/19/2018 5:22:30 PM)

Elias has a better baseball face than Falvey.

Adrian Beltre hangs em up after 21 years
Guy always had fun, but was also one helluva player

The Mets are sending veteran outfielder Jay Bruce, relievers Anthony Swarzak and Gerson Bautista and top prospects Jarred Kelenic and Justin Dunn in exchange for 36-year-old Robinson Cano, closer Edwin Diaz and $20 million to help offset the remaining cost of Cano's contract.

Led by Jerry Dipoto, the Mariners have hastened their rebuild by ridding themselves of much of Cano's 10-year, $240 million deal (which was negotiated by former CAA agent and now-Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen) and adding a couple of prospects. On the other side of the trade, the Mets get a great closer in Diaz and a veteran second baseman in Cano.
