Giants traded Derek Holland to the Cubs!

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/29/2019 3:17:11 PM)

The Brewers have reached a deal to acquire right-hander Jordan Lyles from the division-rival Pirates, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). Milwaukee will send Double-A right-hander Cody Ponce to Pittsburgh in return, tweets Robert Murray of The Athletic.

Wow, trade activity is about as lame as it has ever been on July 29th.

It's like everyone is waiting for that first big deal because it will set the precedent for the deals that follow. This is a real feeling out process without the waiver trade window.

I knew I would like the old way better.

The Phillies have reportedly struck a deal to acquire veteran lefty Jason Vargas from the Mets. Catcher Austin Bossart is going to the New York organization in the swap. The Mets will cover the larger portion of the remaining contractual obligation to Vargas, ultimately saving $2MM.

Phils were allegedly after bigger names.

The Indians will activate right-hander Danny Salazar from the 60-day injured list prior to Thursday’s contest, manager Terry Francona announced to reporters (Twitter link via Mandy Bell of MLB.com). Salazar, who is currently stretched out to about 70 pitches, will start that game and be followed by righty Adam Plutko if necessary. Cleveland will need to make a 40-man roster move to open a spot for Salazar.
Thursday will mark the first time Salazar has set foot on a big league mound in nearly two years. The talent possessed by the oft-injured righty is obvious, but shoulder troubles that ultimately necessitated surgery have put his career on hold for nearly 24 months.

The trade market is finally beginning to unclog. Trevor Bauer is very much in play, and the Cleveland Indians, rival executives tell ESPN, seem motivated to move him soon. Madison Bumgarner remains available, according to sources. And interest in Robbie Ray has picked up as well.

Jon Heyman

Reds are a surprise entry in Bauer derby as
@Ken_Rosenthal
reported. If that happens, the 2 biggest moves may be made by sub-.500 teams on the far outside of the race. The Mets already got Stroman; a Reds trade for Bauer would be even more shocking.

Yanks give up a pile of runs, struggle last week

Now have won 5 straight.

Boston hammered the Yanks staff, now have lost 7 in a row.

I still wish he was with Cleveland so Max could hit another 8 HRs off of him.

I wish he was too, because the Tribe won that trade and are going to be very tough to hold off.

The Giants added several new faces to their minor-league system on Wednesday, acquiring seven prospects at the trade deadline. Several of those prospects made their Giants’ organizational debut this week.

No one made a stronger first impression than Jaylin Davis, who went 7 for 11 with two home runs in his first three games for the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. The slugging outfielder now has 27 home runs and 75 RBIs in 102 games this season.

“Field of Dreams” will become a big-league reality on Aug. 13, 2020, when the beloved 1989 baseball movie will spring to life in the Iowa cornfields. As announced Thursday, the White Sox and Yankees will stage the first Major League game in the Hawkeye State, in a temporary 8,000-seat ballpark constructed in the corn on the Dyersville farm site where the classic film was shot.

So assuming it is a White Sox home game, the attendance will be consistent with Southside Chicago.

I have no fear of Southside Chicago. Went to an entire Twins series there and felt perfectly safe.

The reference was in regards to the White Sox regular attendance. What does safety have to do with it?

They are actually drawing OK in Chicago this year. Currently 8th in the AL in average attendance. They are drawing more than the Indians.
