Without the players, the owners do not have a viable product. kg, your arguments are IMO nuts.

DING
DING
DING

Go buy a cheap hotdog at Dairy Queen.

It's the owners who provide us with the game. We need them to succeed or we don't have the games. There have been many leagues that have folded because the owners weren't successful. That is why I side with the owners. The less money the players make the better for all of us fans. If you want the players to all get as bloody rich as they are than that's nice.

kg and CPAMAN want to go back to the 1950s. Hmmmmmm.

Part time jobs for the fellas!
Soon as the train rolls back into Minny, head on down to the factory and earn some real spendin money boys!

Yep I'm more or less in favor of that. Those were better days for sports.
I'm not really serious about going that far, but it truly seems to me that the players were far more happy before they started getting the ridiculous amounts of money.

None of the SI.com baseball writers put Target field in top 5

Tragic News
Starling Marte has announced that his wife died unexpectedly on Monday.
Via Marte's personal Instagram page: "Today I go through the great pain of making public the unfortunate death of my wife Noelia, due to a heart attack. It is a moment of indescribable pain. On behalf of my family, I am grateful for the expressions of esteem and solidarity in this difficult time." Jon Heyman of MLB Network writes that Noelia "broke her ankle and was in the hospital and said to be awaiting surgery when she passed." The couple had three children together. Absolutely tragic news.

That sucks! Hopefully it wasn't because the hospital was unable to help her sufficiently because of COVID-19 priorities. [:@]

Following Choo's lead

Dodgers pitcher David Price will give $1,000 to every minor leaguer in Los Angeles' system for the month of June, according to MLB writer Francys Romero.
Minor league players received $400 in May from MLB, but those benefits are not guaranteed to extend into June. With many minor leaguers now in search of their next paycheck, Price stepped up to fill the potential void in Los Angeles' system.

Interesting article in the star tribune about the Twins cheater and his former teammate cheaters and cheaters throughout baseball history.

I didn’t know that the ‘51 Giants of the Bobby Thomson home run fame also used a sophisticated sign stealing system.

Today in 1944, Joe Nuxhall pitched in the majors at the age of 15 years and 10 months
WWII sped up the process, but how cool is that

Am sure if not before, his eyes were opened to a lot, joining the big league clubhouse.

I see Claudell Washington died

one of the games first specialty guys
Pure speed for awhile

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/10/2020 1:55:35 PM)

Claudells biggest hit?
That foul ball Ferris Bueller caught [:D]

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/10/2020 1:56:13 PM)

Dude was only 65?
Yikes

I got shit to do yet!

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/10/2020 2:24:39 PM)

I'll remember Claudell as the 'next generation' A's guy after the run of Reggie/Rudi and such.

He went an entire season with the A's without a single plate appearance - he was a pinch-runner only.

Nope

That was Herb Washington

These are Claudell's stats

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/washicl01.shtml

I followed the A's almost as much as the Twins in those days.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/10/2020 3:11:00 PM)

Claudell came up young -19

part of the Finley/cheap (aka Calvin) process in those days.

IMO probably held him back from developing. Had some power, but never really broke out, despite playing into his 30s

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/10/2020 3:19:55 PM)

Knew there's be some confusion

Claudell had a couple tools.
Herb had one.
Wings.

Yep, Ed, back when Charlie Finley was smarter than all of us.
The A's seem to gravitate towards those types.

A's had some tremendous scouts

Look at the talent they found and developed

Catfish
Reggie
Vida Blue
Campaneris
Tenace
Fingers
Rudi
Blue Moon Odom
Bando
Monday
Duncan

Wearing white cleats

The Swingin' A's

kgdabom -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/10/2020 6:31:03 PM)

U of M Pitcher goes 3rd overall in the draft.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/10/2020 7:56:12 PM)

Red Sox with a shocker!!! Just selected a HS hitter ranked mid-100s. WTF?

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/10/2020 7:58:08 PM)

This is bizarre. Red Sox probably banking on him not signing and getting that pick back next year. So weird.

McMurfy -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/10/2020 8:02:55 PM)

And a second baseman!
So he goes #17 overall
but can’t beat out Pat Miller as the HS starting SS?

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/10/2020 8:18:01 PM)

More HS players selected than expected. Probably smart. If you're 17 or 18 and rockin' it, you got it.
