SCSU with a nice 8-0 win against whatever Regina is. Is that a college or a minor league team? Could SCSU have a very explosive offense?

Regina is a city in Saskatchewan.

I knew that, but my question is was that a college team or a minor league team. Exactly who/what was SCSU playing against.

Regina is a Canadien University-level team
Made up of mostly Whl and aged-out Tier-2 Junior players.
Its a landing spot for canadien players looking for that last shot.

Yup. Scouts love to find that diamond in the rough.

Brandon University had a similar team that used to have those games ... they dropped the program tho.

So roughly equivalent to a big ten conference team? [&:]

SCSU might have something going on this year. A 4-0 win at Mankato is no small thing. On the other hand they were outshot 42-26, but SCSU doesn't take many wasted shots. They win by holding out for better scoring opportunities.

Minnesota teams in this weeks rankings.
#5 Bulldogs
#6 Huskies
#7 Gophers
#22 Mavericks
#27 Beavers

Gophers and Bulldogs split this week. Should be fun when Huskies plays the Bulldogs and Gophers.

I'm taking a look at BSU's freshman class. Will any of these guys be impact players right away?

Brendan Harris - Henderson, Nevada

Ethan Somoza - Simi Valley, California

Charlie Combs - St Louis, Missouri

Aaron Miller - Superior, Wisconsin

Brad Johnson - Chesterfield, Missouri

Tyler Vold - Andover

Connor Brown-Maloski - BC, Canada

Henry Johnson - Minneapolis

I'm assuming the HARRIS kid will get screwed over in some bullshit "fair competition" ruse, and will soon be gone from the program.
We've seen it happen.

Look for Vold and Brown to help you.

kgdabom -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/11/2017 8:54:42 PM)

I'm hearing absolute rave reviews of the Huskies freshman class. They could be set for years.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/11/2017 9:16:16 PM)

Couple USHL studs and a MJHL Canadien.
What's not to like.
Motzko's a go-getter.
Walked thru the back hallway at our section final game last year, and there he is ..
And we are probably near the lowest-ranked Section in the state.
He leaves no stones unturned. Used to see him once or twice a year coming thru our town when he was in SueFoo. Hard-workin sonofagun.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm curious about something. As long as I have been a Huskies fan it seems like they get outshot 75% of the time, yet they win 75% of the time.
I hold the notion that Motzko coaches to wait for better chances to score before taking the shot than other coaches. If not that then we have had spectacular goaltending or shear dumb luck.
This has been going on for 10 years or more. Any thoughts on this?

kgdabom -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/12/2017 11:37:45 AM)

Regarding the USHL recruits I did a little checking and it seems like we have a pipeline from Fargo.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/12/2017 12:31:02 PM)

Well you're not going yo like my explanation for the lack of shots.
IMO that is a result of some of what you say, but yo me, more of ...
A lack of top-end talent that is capable of run and fun shoot and fly hockey.
His teams are fairly disciplined and tough and like to muck it up.
They are content to muddle the scoring areas and take advantage of mistakes.
He finds recruits and molds them to that style IMO.
They came out of it a couple years back for a stretch, but IMO, only because a couple of his guys stuck around and became very good snipers and attackers. The Hanowski/Benik types.

SCSU plays a very boring brand of hockey.

I think there is a lot of truth in what you say, but the thing is SCSU consistently gets outshot, but still consistently wins. I think it is very intentional. They don't like to waste shots.

Spoken like a guy who is very tired of losing to SCSU. [:'(]
Just messing with you. Do you remember a guy who played for SCSU from 2006-7 to 2009-10 named Ryan Lasch. He was easily the most fun player to watch in my Husky hockey fandom.
Neil Broten like in his creativity.

hate bragging but ...
Just got word the third kid I've worked with in our program before, just got his D1 offer today.
That was unheard of in our hockey world, not long ago.
Got a goalie at MercyHurst, this D-man is going to Robert Morris, and in a couple years, another D-man will be at the U

I don't run the program.
I assist on the HS level the past 15 years. Youth levels coach the 15 years before that.
All three of these left our program early, but that's the path most have to take.
Got to see them develop tho.
Our best player the last couple years is now on a D1 scholarship playing baseball at Oklahoma this year, too.

Not too impressed with UND so far. A tie and an OT win (but in the books as another tie?) vs Alaska-Anchorage??? Could be a loooooonng year in Grand Forks. I hope.
