Bemidji splits the series in Fairbanks. Driscoll pitches a shutout on Friday. Then he struggles last night and we lose a game where we outshot them 38-23.

Not a good sign. Have any of the Alaska teams ever been good?

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (11/5/2019 10:47:57 AM)

Alaska is actually off to a good start this year. They were unbeaten in the conference until they lost to BSU on Friday.

SMF, get your son in a Beavers' jersey to get that top line back together!!

University of Alaska Fairbanks is the lesser of the U of A's IIRC. Anchorage would be the primary right? What other Alaska school plays division 1 Hockey?

kgdabom -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (11/5/2019 11:07:27 AM)

SCSU out of the top 20 rankings and now in the other teams receiving votes category. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Minnesota the last team receiving points and BSU nowhere to be seen.

Mankato #3
UMD #7

My kid was shocked when he saw them skate out for starting lineups.
Two awesome kids, said you'd never know they were D1 studs. Humble.
That's why we're pushing my nephews kid in that direction.
BSU is a program that appreciates hard working humble kids. The college game needs to get back to that.
UMD has carried that torch pretty well. You can do it, and still win.

Huskies blew a 3-0 lead against #16 ranked Northern Michigan on the road to end up with a 3-3 tie. The following from the Huskies website.

In the third period, SCSU's shutout was ended with a trio of goal on a rare double major penalty that provide NMU with almost 5:00 of 5x3 power play time. The Wildcats took advantage early in the power play with a goal by Vincent de Mey at 11:32. NMU then made it 3-2 with a goal by Andre Ghantous at 13:08. The OT period was then forced by a NMU's third goal on the power play at 14:34 of the third by Ghantous.

A double major I have never even heard of. Two Huskies get majors on the same play????????
EDIT: Upon further examination the penalties were boarding but 17 seconds apart.

BSU beat Lake Superior State 7-1 last night. Some guy named Max Humitz already has 6 goals for the Beavers.

A 5-1 win for BSU last night. We get the sweep! I guess Driscoll is in net every game now. He's playing better lately.

Congrats. Huskies got a 5-4 OT win after blowing a 3 goal lead all in the third period same as the night before. I'm confused about what kind of OT wins count in the standings and rankings.

I have another team to pull for. My cousin's kid signed on to play for Western Michigan.

https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/380988/nick-strom

I hope he's a thorn in the side of SCSU and UND.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (11/18/2019 12:32:47 PM)

Very cool Matt!

Excellent coaching staff there.
Andy Murrays a legend to anyone who has worked with him.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (11/18/2019 12:35:31 PM)

Will we ever tire of Penn State rubbing our noses in ..it?
I remember people chuckling and laughing when it was announced they were going D1
We've been taking ass kickings from them ever since.
The new programs with the excited donors are the ones you should be wary of these days.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (11/23/2019 8:57:12 PM)

Beavers beat Huntsville 7-0 tonight. Not sure I've ever seen a more lopsided win for my team. Gotta give props to Driscoll on the shutout. He's not great, but I guess I am biased against him after Bitzer. Nobody can live up to that.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (11/23/2019 9:01:29 PM)

BSU now 6-2 in the WCHA. 2nd place.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (11/23/2019 9:09:03 PM)

St Cloud State sucks this year. Guess we won't be hearing much from kg.

The Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Nick Strom has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Western Michigan University of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). Strom becomes the ninth member of last year’s Tauros team to make a DI commitment and the 45th overall in franchise history.

Strom, 19, was tied for ninth on the Tauros in scoring during the 2018-19 season with 32 points (4 goals, 28 assists).

The 5’11/177 lbs. native of Dayton, Minnesota, said he chose Western Michigan because of the coaching staff. “I know they’ll push me to be my best as a student athlete. Western Michigan gives me the best chance to reach my goals, which includes playing in the NCHC and becoming a pilot. I plan on studying aviation flight science and getting a business-related minor.”

Tauros Head Coach and General Manager Marty Murray had nothing but praise for his defenseman, “Nick had an exceptional rookie season with us. He played like a seasoned veteran from the get go and played in all situations. His poise and ability to break pucks out are as good as I’ve seen at this level. He’s a great teammate and with the way he handles himself both on and off the ice, it will lead to very good things as he moves forward in his career.”

Strom was equally effusive about his time in Minot as Murray was about him. “The entire Tauro organization helped me get to this point by surrounding me with great coaches, trainers, and teammates who have supported and pushed me to be a better player and person. Having the opportunity to be on the ice every day and work on my game with them helped me grow a lot this past season. I owe them, the fans, and the community a big thank you for making Minot a great place to play and develop.”

Aside from a general thank you to the Tauros community Strom also had more specific thank you’s to pass on. “I owe a big thank you to my family, friends, and my billet family the Bastsfor their support throughout this journey. As well as the Tauro scouts, coaches, and ownership for giving me the opportunity to play in Minot and doing everything they could to help me during my time there.”[\i]

Survived a night being the only guy in the rink in Grand Forks pulling for St Cloud.
Thanks for worrying about me.
Sat there all night, knowing how it would end. And it came true. Sue in OT.
At least I didn't get doused with beer or punched in the back of the head, so all is good.
My son was worried sick, he stood in the alleyway, did his job well, but kept texting me to "be careful, Dad"
Kinda sad it is that way, but it is. For all parties concerned.
There's an anger in that building that doesn't exist in any other I have been in.
My cousin's kid created the game-winner, so I couldn't be completely disgusted with the result. Fun to see him do well.
Beautiful rink still.
Gotta agree, St Cloud is down. Lots of good names, but younger brothers aren't automatically as successful as the older ones. (Poehlings, Brodzinskis)
Took 59 minutes to get to double digits in shots. [:-]
Crowd is bearded, angry, mouthy, irrational, irritating, and impatient.
And their husbands and boyfriends are worse.

You are correct. I just came by to see who would report that SCSU sucks since I didn't have the heart to do it. I was never a fan of hiring the assistant from UMD a team that we had dominated.
Looks like I might have been right. To be fair to him we graduated a lot of talent and Lost the best Poehling to the pros.

You are a better man than I am. Not sure I could bring myself to enter the building.

2 ties vs St Cloud State

1 OT loss vs North Dakota

Wins vs Alaska, Lake Superior State, Ferris State and Huntsville.

What really sucks Matt, is they are back on track
Bending all the rules, screaming for better treatment, basically bully hockey again.
Bodes well for them.
No one will beat them at home the way they are playing.
The Huskies had 8 shots on goal with 5 minutes left in the game. 8 really weak ones.
They lack any real offensive threats, but damn, they just smother people.
They're about a year ahead of Berry's schedule. Sucks.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (11/26/2019 1:34:52 PM)

Fascinating fan base.
It bad ways.
They live and die for their beloved Sioux
But along the way, it's the foulest, most-impatient, critical following you can imagine.
Had two exact replica families in the row ahead of me and the row behind me.
Like a grandpa-grandma-son-and-his-wife-and-their-two-kids type of thing.
Every member of the families had their own bitchfest going, the entire game.
He sucks. Why does he play at all? Why is he on the PP? That kid shouldn't play. How can you not score that? Are you really that F-ing stupid? etc etc etc
Tons of F bombs. The impatience is incredible. And I can tell you, by the looks of them, NONE Of them have ever played a lick.
The game is easy to them.
Then, when the goal is scored, or the hit is made, and the win is finalized, they are giddy, obnoxious, and arrogant.
Sure, this is being too critical, but I've been there several times now, and get the same vibes and same experiences in every part of the rink.
Every student section is loud and obnoxious, I get that and accept that. But the "adult" sections of that place can be frightening.
We had mucky muck tickets this time, so we spent half the time in the seats, and the other half in the bar rail seats and in the two bars on top.
The bars were jack full of them, rowdy as hell from start to finish, and I bet 10% of them knew what the final score was. Tops.
I would look back (all I wanted to do was watch the hockey, which was actually quite good) .. and every person in the bar (75-100 at least) wasn't even facing the ice.
Its a social event for sure. A really critical, angry one.
The rink staff are the opposite, calm, decent, helpful. And the building itself is really nice. Nazis were great at constructing beautiful buildings.

Rumors of SCSU's death may be premature. Just got a road sweep in the NCHC against Miami.
