Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (9/12/2016 6:26:37 AM)

Game was reminding me of the SF game of 2015, about the same thing.
Vanilla offense, Peterson coddled, not ready to start the year, some WR's that can't get any separation.

Defense started slowly, got better, thankfully.

I almost posted earlier.

It was a sad looking 1st half. Walsh sucks and cannot be trusted. A.P. looked bad, needs some preseason action in the future. OLine held up OK in passing game, could've done better opening holes for A.P. which would've helped him look better. Defense was OK, but nothing too special early. Smith made some nice plays.

The KR to start the 2nd half ignited things a bit, we got on the board finally. The game was really given away by some sloppy ball control by the Titans. We were given some gifts and turned them into points which was great because the O couldn't get in the EZ. Diggs and Rudolph were Offensive MVP's, Smith, Kendricks, and Hunter Defensive MVP's.

Nice to play this poorly and get the W, need to clean up a lot of things for next week.

Sums it up for me.
Hey Danno, I was in the fray the whole day over there.
C'mon now. [:D]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (9/12/2016 8:18:17 AM)

I blame most of it on Turner. That first series of downs sums him up these days. Mediocre QB, the entire world (and aliens) knows you are going AP left, AP right and 3rd and 9. What does he do?

AP left, AP right and 3rd and 9. I could take a bunch of 6 month old cocker spaniels and lined them up in perfect position to play that series. Why is here again?

Couldn't agree more. Zimmer must dictate trying to just do enough, with confidence in the defense.

But as long as Walsh is kicking, it's going to be a huge gamble playing the FG game.

They need WR separation. I do not get the Charles Johnson bit. He can't get separated. Treadwell, the opportunity is just begging for you to take it over.

Two more good summations.
The most easily-detected plan in the history of sport.
Its no wonder the runs don't work.
And Ed hits my worry.
We settle for FGs
Then you better have a damn-near perfect kicker.
Uh-oh.

People talk about going for two ... hell, we are the worst team in the league in the red zone.
Doesn't bode well for "going for two" [:D]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (9/12/2016 9:15:47 AM)

Media and social media heaping praises on the d-takeaways and "mistake free football" by Shaun Hill.

That's not going to happen every week. The offense, and the coordinator, need to step up as well.

The first time the Vikings marched right to the 15 yard line, I, everyone on this board, everyone watching via network, cable & satelite from coast to coast and most importantly the Titans new what the next sequence of plays would be. Two inside handoffs to Adrian that would likely lose yardage and a feeble pass attempt culminating in Walsh missing a field goal. You got bonus points if you predicted the holding penalty.

Just so damn predictable.

That was about the best you can hope for from Shaun Hill. Manage the game, move the chains enough to kick field goals and for the D to rest and don't turn it over.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (9/12/2016 9:19:11 AM)

It reminds me of the '70 and '71 Vikes.

Between Kapp and Tarkenton's return.

Amazing defense, bland offense, and they wound up losing in the playoff first round...like last year.

TJSweens -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (9/12/2016 9:24:58 AM)

Yeah, the 3 headed monster of Gary Quazzo, Bobby Lee and Norm Snead wasn't exactly a collection of field generals.

Nail it
Dead zone period in the franchise
Wasn't it like Cuozzo, Lee, etc ...
manage games, hope the D makes enough stops
Whee.
Hill played much better than I expected.
We protected better than I expected.
And our offense still hasn't scored a TD since the 2nd quarter in Green Bay last YEAR

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (9/12/2016 9:28:19 AM)

Sweens beat me
Stormin Norman Snead ... had forgotten that old Eagle.

TJSweens -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (9/12/2016 9:44:49 AM)

One of the greater unabrows in Viking history.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (9/12/2016 10:19:09 AM)

Matt Asiata's role?

Sammy Johnson

Fresh legs at the end of the game for the fumble prone star.

Loved me some Sammy Johnson back in the day.
He had that back-up role where he always looked like a superstar.
He'd come in when the D's tongues were dragging after chasing Chuck Foreman around all day .. and rip off some big gains.
And we'd all clamor to see more of him.
Sammy was probably going ... shhhhhh, we good, we good ....
The Don Strock role. Best gig in sports. Fan favorite, behind a legend ... just stay nice and quiet and cash the checks. And look good in a ball cap.

The darkest period for Vikings QB play until Christian Ponder came along.

Seriously? You forget the Spurgeon Wynn era? or Gus Frerrotte, Todd Baumann? One year we had the pre-good Rich Gannon and Sean Salisbury as our QB options (we ended up 6-10).

Brooks Bolinger Kelly Holcomb.

There were some dark ass years at the QB position here. between 70 and Ponder. Hell even the guy that Ponder replaced was worse than Ponder at that point. the DONEavan McNabb?

Green was a moron at that point. Gannon would show flashes and as soon as he made a mistake Green would go back to Salisbury. Gannon of course thrived as we cycled through journeymen.

Would have to assume Sammy B. starts next week.

Hope so, since I'm going... [sm=viking.gif]

I think it was still Burnsie then...

1992 was both Green and Salisbury's first year as Vikings.

We were 11-5 his first year with Gannon starting 12 games and Salisbury 4. The next year we replaced Gannon with McMahan.

TJSweens -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (9/12/2016 11:37:22 AM)

Green took over in 92. He demoted Gannon late in the year for Salisburry and then played Salisburry in the playoffs. Green shipped Gannon out after the season.

Edit, David beat me to it.
