I just laugh at all the legions of Peterson fans who hold him so high on a pedestal he can do no wrong. He's always been an incomplete, one dimensional back. Amazing runner. The most amazing mix of power and speed in the history of the game. But he can't catch or block. And just in the last 2-3 years has solved a pesky fumbling problem he had most of his
career.

And believe it or not, he actually does have holes in his running style. In his attempts to hit a HR every carry, he actually does sacrifice alot of sure 5 yard gains that end up being 2 yard gains (or less).

I'm sensing a pattern here ..... [&:]

But the funny thing is, I love Adrian Peterson. The "AP can do no wrong" people just drive me nuts. He had his chance at a superbowl and he didn't grasp it.

Well, SMF, I don't consider you a fool. I'll have to edit that out. I didn't need to start throwing that word around.

No problems
Well, I wasn't really blaming Favre
I agree we're not in the game without him.
It's such a fine line

Even breaks down to throwaway games like yesterday's ST game ...
I guess if you're ol Red Face you can blame a guy who's 4-4 for losing you the game
Even tho you're not IN the game without him.

ronhextall -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (3/21/2014 11:22:58 AM)

1998, thing that pissed me off the most at the time.

Robert Smith running out of bounds on that final drive, maybe more than once. Let the Fing clock run. If was as smart as everybody says he was and wanted to win as badly as I did, he would have lowered his shoulder and stayed in bounds.

Also remember hearing about players flying out to Vegas a few days after the game. I realized they are still rich and having a good time, regardless of the loss. Meanwhile I go to work the next day to get lifetime's worth of shit thrown at me from Packer fans.

Just awful. I doubt any fan base has had their hearts yanked out of their chest more than Vikings fans. If their are other teams they probably have a title or two to fall back on.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (3/21/2014 11:29:33 AM)

Yeap, 98 for sure was a bigger dagger to me. I never bought in to the Favre hype but do conceed that we wouldn't be there without him. I just knew he was end it at some point so I was prepared.

98 on the other hand, I thought we were unbeatable and never took the Falcons serious. [:@]

Was it 2000 where we were in the NFC Championship against the Giants when the D and ST's were so God aweful that we were down something like 21-0 before the offense even saw the field? That was probably the most pissed I've ever been as a fan. The others were pain. That one was pure anger.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (3/21/2014 11:29:49 AM)

On a side note ...
I owe everyone who hated Merril Hoge with a passion, for his Moss comments, an apology.
I laughed at you and couldn't understand your anger.
Sorry.
And nevermind.
I totally understand it now. [&:]

I wasn't too mad after that game. 1998 changed me forever. I will never get that emotionally invested again in sports team.

Dead honest here ... I hear you. I basically went numb after Anderson's miss.
And truly was on cruise control.
Until one play before the Favre interception.
I mean, how sad is that?
I remember shedding all the anger, all the non-caring feelings ... All at once.
One play before the interception. I was TOTALLY back on board, 100%.
And of course, was struck down (like I deserved) .... Seconds later.
Typical. Had to sell my soul, give in, make another ass of myself, only to have it all crushed again. What a Putz.

God honest truth, I became physically ill after that game, and I was sick for over month. It was almost as if my system shut down. No lie. Shame on me for letting a silly sporting event effect me like that, but it did.

ronhextall -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (3/21/2014 11:57:31 AM)

I quit watching sportscenter after the 98 title game for about a month. I knew it would be non-stop after.

You have described my feelinsg perfectly. Not a minute before the interception, I said to my friend who I was watchign the game with: "I can't believe it, but Favre is actually going to do it. He's going to get us to the Super Bowl." Less than a minute after I finally bought into him being a Viking, it's all over. Brutal.

He did have a hell of a game, no doubt about it. And was screwed by the refs who let him get destroyed.

Only thing good about that game was that it was over fast. What a disaster that was.

That was over before you could say Wasswa Serwanga.

Let me know when you find one one of these people you describe. I aint one.

Black 47 -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (3/22/2014 9:33:29 AM)

Sorry if I came across as a dick. I get edgy when people say "Peterson's fumbles didn't cost them the game! It's a myth! Look at the stats!". First of all, he did lose one. I dont care what the stats say. And it was monumental. Second of all, putting the ball on the ground three times had the rest of his team squeezing the ball so tight it was popping out like a hot potato. It became contagious.

Look beyond the stats. There is so much more to take into consideration.

Agree about AD
You can make the argument that you don't get there without him, but they were all screwing up that day and still nearly won the game.
I've never seen a QB take as much of a beating as Favre did that day.
That was actually the first day I liked the guy, because he showed so much grit.
Of course, it turns out he is who he is on the last drive.

Black 47 -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (3/22/2014 10:52:34 AM)

And it never would have come to that last play if not for an idiot coach who had the most disorganized timeout in the history of football and sent 12 men back out on the field.

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (3/22/2014 10:54:08 AM)

I hated Childress from Day 1. I still contend Moss' greatest play was coming back to MN and helping him get fired.

Moss coming back was one of the happiest days as a Viking fan for me. People said over and over that it would never happen - and then it did!

I was crushed with the way it turned out. It was embarrassing. But...thank all that is good - there was a HUGE silver lining to it all and that was seeing Childress go.

Wish we could have gone from Childress to Zimmer though. Frazier years = lost years.

Childress was terrible, just terrible, and I hated him too, but as a good friend of mine often texts me on Sundays after a loss,

"they can't blame that one on Chili"

I really wanted Frazier to succeed. I thought he had a great demeanor as a head coach, and the players played hard for him. Maybe if he hadn't hired complete idiots as assistants, it would have worked. That's completely on him, though, and that's a primary responsibilities of a head coach (obvs). The schemes were just...yipes.

I'm also optimistic about Zimmer. Not an arrogant ass, but clearly has a plan and knows what he's doing. Fingers crossed.

Fair point. It was fun to have such a deserving whipping boy, but those days have sailed at this point.

We may do this vacation again next year, if this keeps up, family!

As long as I get a window seat, Dad! [8|]

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (3/22/2014 11:40:00 AM)

When I was a kid, my Dad put me on "the hump" in the backseat of his middle-aged gift to himself, a '68 hatchback Mustang.
Between my sister and my brother who I both despised at the time.
All the way to the BlackHills and back.
If I can survive that, there's nothing a human can't do.

(True story)

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (3/22/2014 11:43:09 AM)

Oh, man, the hump seat. That was the worst. Only had one sibling, so rarely had to suffer with it. We had a beige Dodge Aspen wagon with the hump...too funny.
