Sorry! Jeez.

Here is an intresting tidbit of baseball history.

Cesar Geronimo was the 3000th strike out victim for two different hall of famers. Nolan Ryan and Bob Gibson.

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/1/2017 3:56:20 PM)

That is pretty crazy. Here's another one I thought was interesting: John Smoltz is the first HOF pitcher to have undergone TJ surgery. Will we ever see another one that HASN'T?

Did King Felix have TJ?

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/1/2017 4:46:11 PM)

I don't believe he has. He'd be one for the list, for sure. Though he's probably got a bit to go still. Scherzer would probably be another one. And, so far, Kershaw of course.

Just struck me as kind of crazy. Obviously something has changed for the worse in re: pitching health and what we're doing to these guys. Baseball went 85 years without a HOF pitcher with TJ surgery. Now most of the next ones will have had it.

So Bert and Jack are right.

Yes but Geronimo saved so many runs with that cannon arm

Mets recently set a MLB team record for something they've done the past two seasons ...
First team in history to do this thing ten times in consecutive seasons.
Any ideas?

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/9/2017 12:57:15 PM)

Get shut out?

SoMnFan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/9/2017 1:41:14 PM)

Good guess but no.
I would have assumed teams have done this before, but they haven't

Games completed in a certain time window?

SoMnFan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/9/2017 2:14:06 PM)

Just seemed odd to me ...
The record is for game lead-off homers
Only team to hit more than 10 in consecutive seasons
Darling thought the same thing I did ... "Not even Rickey Henderson teams?"

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/9/2017 2:26:04 PM)

Interesting. Would have thought the same as well re: Rickey.

In fact, I bet Ricky had that thought himself: "Rickey used to play on a team with a guy that used to hit a lot of leadoff homeruns..."

I was also referring to the Rickey/John Olerud famous story. One of my favorite baseball stories ever.

TJSweens -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/9/2017 2:50:36 PM)

Sadly, both Ricky and Olerud said it wasn't true. I was devastated.

There are gems like ... “Do I talk to myself? No, I just remind myself of what I’m trying to do. You know, I never answer myself so how can I be talking to myself?” or The morning after the Sox finished off their 2004 World Series sweep against St. Louis, Henderson called someone in the organization looking for tickets to Game 6 at Fenway Park. or When he was on the Yankees in the mid-1980s, Henderson told teammates that his condo had such a great view that he could see, “The Entire State Building.” or “This is Rickey calling on behalf of Rickey. Rickey wants to play baseball.”

Third person speak can be very confusing.

Miles isn't confused easily but can be with third person speak.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/22/2017 10:27:00 PM)

In MLB history what player has the most MVP vote shares without ever actually winning an MVP award?

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/22/2017 10:41:15 PM)

Believe it or not, Adrian Beltre is only 9th on the active intentional walks list. Name the 8 active players above him.

TJSweens -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 7:54:27 AM)

I would, but I simply don't care.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 8:27:29 AM)

Pujols, Cabrera, Mauer, Victor Martinez, Votto?

That's all I got.
