Thanks for playing.

Pujols (1st), Cabrera (2nd), Mauer (6th), Victor Martinez (8th), Votto (7th)?

That's all I got.

All correct. You are missing the 3 toughest ones IMO.

One of them is a stretch being "active." Not sure on his retirement status?...he may have hung them up.

One of the other guys is ancient, but plays a little bit.

The other guy has just very recently started his decline.

In MLB history what player has the most MVP vote shares without ever actually winning an MVP award?

Nobody wants to take a shot at this one? I found it very interesting.

Ichiro?

Mr. Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 11:19:47 AM)

Dodgers 1st baseman, used to play for the Pads

Adrian Gonzalez

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 11:23:27 AM)

Ichiro and Gonzalez. Yes.

The other one is Ryan Howard, but he might be retired.

Ichiro isn't really ancient. He's more ageless.

Active??

All-time.

Not active.

This guy was most active in the 1980s.

Look at it this way - he accumulated the most MVP "point" votes in his career without ever finishing first in the voting. Not necessarily the MOST votes. But the most HIGH votes.

TJSweens -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 12:07:35 PM)

I think he means all time. My guess is Eddie Murray. Should have won it over Ripken.

BOOM! Good job Tim.

TJSweens -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 12:08:49 PM)

Maybe Pedro Martinez or Mike Piazza.

Edit: Matt was too fast for me again,

The fact that he never won makes a rather compelling case for the roll race has traditionally played in MVP voting.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 12:11:45 PM)

He had two 2nd place finishes, and several other Top 5 finishes, along with a few more Top 10.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 12:12:55 PM)

The best position players to never win an MVP award:

1. Murray
2. Piazza
3. Manny Ramirez
4. David Ortiz
5. Kaline
6. Ott
7. Jeter
8. Bill Terry
9. Puckett
10. Sheffield

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 12:16:01 PM)

Let's try the same question, except this time with the Cy Young Award. Who has accumulated the most Cy Young vote "points" without ever finishing 1st in the voting?

Big hint: It happens to be an active pitcher.

Note: I fixed an earlier typo

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 12:17:53 PM)

I fixed a typo. Make sure to reread the question.

Nick Turley?

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 12:20:55 PM)

Try again smartass.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 12:28:43 PM)

Cole Hamels

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 1:25:34 PM)

Nope.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 1:31:52 PM)

John Lackey

That Kaline never won really boggles my mind.....probably as much as anyone on the list.

Ryan Howard signed a minor league contract with the Rockies on Aug. 12 so he is still active. Whether or not he is alive is questionable. But active, yes.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (8/23/2017 1:52:15 PM)

The correct answer is Adam Wainwright.

Be more patient......I was gonna say John Lester.
