On this date in 1971 the Twins traded catcher ____________ to Milwaukee for catcher __________.

Fill in the blanks.

TJSweens -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/8/2021 12:36:56 PM)

I'm going to say the first blank is George Mitterwald. No idea who they would have gotten back.

TJSweens -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/8/2021 12:38:46 PM)

I take that back, I'm guessing Phil Roof. Bert Blylevin has talked about Roof being his catcher.

Do you want Roof for your first blank or second blank?

Mitterwald was not involved in the trade.

Well, he was involved in the trade of baseball, but not this trade.

If it wasn't Mitterwald, it has to be Ratliff. They were the two catchers after Roseboro.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/8/2021 12:51:13 PM)

This is all pre-me.

The catchers on the Twins when I started paying attention were Tim Laudner and Dave Engle. Engle I think was the one that developed an inability to throw the ball back to the pitcher.

More on Engle: During his sophomore season, Engle became the first player to hit a home run in Minneapolis's newly opened Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. This occurred on opening day, April 6, 1982 and also marked the first hit, run scored, and R.B.I. in the stadium's history.

Ratliff is correct!

Mister Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/8/2021 1:04:46 PM)

Mitterwald and Roof we’re giving way to Glenn Borgmann when I really started paying attention to the Twins

Don't forget Sal Butera. He was there with Engle and Laudner. Engle moved more into a catching role after Butera left, as Engle was primarily an outfielder before that.

Mister Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/8/2021 1:10:05 PM)

Then came Tom Nee ett toe (As Herb always pronounced it)

The Chief, Mark Salas (Gordo used that a lot)

Sal was 1985, Engle and Laudner were earlier....Laudner stayed on. I started watching about 1983. There was a Ray Smith on the roster at one point too. but it was Laudner and Engle.

Puckett started the next year.

Mister Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/8/2021 3:09:02 PM)

The same Ray Smith became a minor league manager for the Twins

Has the most wins for a manager in the Appalachian league
