ORIGINAL: Trekgeekscott This is all pre-me. The catchers on the Twins when I started paying attention were Tim Laudner and Dave Engle. Engle I think was the one that developed an inability to throw the ball back to the pitcher. More on Engle: During his sophomore season, Engle became the first player to hit a home run in Minneapolis's newly opened Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. This occurred on opening day, April 6, 1982 and also marked the first hit, run scored, and R.B.I. in the stadium's history. Don't forget Sal Butera. He was there with Engle and Laudner. Engle moved more into a catching role after Butera left, as Engle was primarily an outfielder before that. Sal was 1985, Engle and Laudner were earlier....Laudner stayed on. I started watching about 1983. There was a Ray Smith on the roster at one point too. but it was Laudner and Engle. Puckett started the next year. Sal was 1980-1982. I have a baseball card from 1985 season. Pretty sure it was with the Twins. Tom Nieto, Tim Laudner and Sal. According to Baseball Reference, Butera's last year with the Twins was 1982. He was with Montreal in 1985.
