The number of guys we used in the past few Gardy Years .... That didn't belong in MLB .... Is staggering.
And embarassing

TJSweens -> RE: Former Twins News (12/16/2014 2:08:09 PM)

True, but they were all tail battlers. [;)]

The sad and obvious truth.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (12/19/2014 2:57:18 PM)

The A’s will release Nick Punto to clear a roster spot, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle (on Twitter). Oakland will be on the hook for his $2.75MM salary in 2015.

The A’s had 41 players on the 40-man roster, meaning that someone had to go and, ultimately, Punto was the odd man out. The infielder’s $2.75MM option vested late in the 2014 thanks to satisfying the terms of a complicated formula that was placed within his contract.

The 37-year-old Jeff Caulfield client had one of his worst offensive seasons to date in 2014, batting .207/.296/.293 in 224 plate appearances. However, he did help the A’s by logging 363 quality innings at second base, and he also filled in at shortstop (118 2/3 innings) in addition to brief cameos in right field and at third base.

That was not a good contract for the A's.

twinsfan -> RE: Former Twins News (12/19/2014 3:06:10 PM)

I warned 'em!

Black 47 -> RE: Former Twins News (12/19/2014 8:17:43 PM)

Only in America. A player THAT BAD has made around $30 million in his career. Unbelievable.

EDIT: He's made a little over $23 million. Still astounding.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (1/15/2015 11:41:04 PM)

Swarzak stays in division. CLeveland

1:59pm: Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Swarzak will earn $900K on the Major League roster, and the contract contains an additional $350K worth of incentives. He’ll be paid $35K for reaching 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 appearances as well as $35K for reaching 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 innings pitched. He also has a Sept. 1 opt-out clause, Berardino adds (Twitter links).

Michael Cuddyer isn't just a batting title-winning outfielder, he's an expert magician, too.

Watch the video.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (1/23/2015 8:16:38 AM)

Peter Greenberg, Johan Santana‘s agent, said his client doesn’t have any structural damage in his shoulder, FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi tweets. Santana was recently scratched from a Venezuelan Winter League start due to his shoulder, though Greenberg said Santana might return to pitch in the league playoffs.

twinsfan -> RE: Former Twins News (1/23/2015 8:17:53 AM)

It must be Michael Cuddyer day. He's featured in two separate articles today on MLB.com.

http://m.mets.mlb.com/news/article/107140916/michael-cuddyer-dont-count-out-mets-in-nl-east

"I don't see why we couldn't," Cuddyer said Thursday when asked if the Mets can compete with the Nationals. "Obviously, they're going to have a great staff, there's no question about it. They've got All-Stars on the staff. They've got ERA champions on the staff, strikeout champions on the staff. But at the same time, we've got guys that can compete with that as well. I think the 'Baseball Almanac' would be written a lot differently if you donned a champion in February every year."
Cuddyer spoke those words while standing in full uniform in the Mets' clubhouse at Citi Field, where the amateur magician performed a series of card tricks for students from PS 92 in Queens. After the show, Cuddyer revealed plans to head down to Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Sunday for a week of intensive fitness work at the Mets' facility, before flying there for good on Feb. 18.

Can't wait to see Cuddy's numbers in NY compared to the Colorado bandbox

And if he can play more than 49 games. What a terrible contract. At least we didn't go 2 years on our albatross in Torii.

But I can't hate on Cuddy. He'll always be one of my favorites. All class, despite constantly getting screwed by Gardy. I wish him well and hope he comes back to the organization in some capacity when he's done.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (1/26/2015 1:50:46 PM)

@DerekWetmore
The Orioles love to sign former Twins or Twins farmhands. They've scooped up Chris Parmelee on a minor league deal:

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (1/27/2015 3:30:58 PM)

There was more cloudy news out of Venezuela regarding Johan Santana‘s comeback attempt, as his agent tells Jon Morosi of FOX Sports that he will not attempt to pitch again in the winter league. (Twitter links.) Santana may still aim to take a mound for scouts, but any such plans are “unclear” at this point.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (1/31/2015 7:48:11 PM)

The Rays are likely to sign free agent infielder Alexi Casilla to a minor league deal, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times (via Twitter). The 30-year-old will compete for a middle infield job.

SoMnFan -> RE: Former Twins News (2/1/2015 7:48:01 AM)

OMG
Casillas only 30?
Was he twelve when we started suffering with him?
I'd have sworn that guy was 45 and retired somewhere.

Blue Jays Designate Chris Colabello For Assignment

By Steve Adams [February 4, 2015 at 5:30pm CST]

The Blue Jays announced that they have designated first baseman/outfielder Chris Colabello for assignment in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for newly acquired left-hander Jayson Aquino.

Toronto claimed the 31-year-old Colabello off waivers from the Twins back in December. Colabello was a feel-good story for the Twins and for baseball fans in general over the past two seasons, making his big league debut at the age of 29 after spending seven season in the independent Canadian-American Association. Much was written about Colabello refusing to give up his dream, and the Massachusetts native made the most of an invitation to big league camp with the Twins in 2012 by posting gaudy numbers at Double-A and Triple-A before finally getting a look in the Majors.

Colabello enjoyed a big month of April this season, hitting .295/.343/.484 and driving in 27 runs, but much of that was attributable to a .379 BABIP, and he quickly saw his production deteriorate. While the former indy ball star is just a .214/.284/.364 hitter in 401 big league plate appearances, he’s authored a massive .319/.393/.574 batting line with 34 homers in 629 Triple-A plate appearances.

djskillz -> RE: Former Twins News (2/5/2015 12:25:49 PM)

The myths of having to hold on to guys keep getting exposed. And show how weak this roster has been. Still plenty of fat left to trim from the 40-man and improve, hopefully soon:

Herrmann. Seriously, this is ridiculous. He doesn't even catch anymore.
Nunez, who's now listed as an OF'er. [:-]
AJ Achter
Logan Darnell
Ryan Pressley
Stephen Pryor
Caleb Thielbar
Aaron Thompson
Jason Wheeler

All very, very replaceable.
