The Giants are “very close” to striking a deal to acquire infielder Gordon Beckham from the Braves, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports on Twitter. Presumably, the move would be made to help cover for Eduardo Nunez, who is dealing with a hamstring issue.

I don't the get the point of making this move...

He wouldn't be eligible for the postseason roster and they should have enough bodies to cover for Nunez.

Why give anything up for Beckham?

Healthy body. They're desperate , a ton of injuries in the infield.

Not postseason eligible, but they're trying to keep vets in place in case they do.

And not giving up much, "cash considerations".

Interesting to see Pat Mahome's kid is the #1 passing QB in CFB.

Johan

good luck buddy

Lefty Johan Santana may not be done yet, Cotillo adds on Twitter. He’s planning on winter ball in Venezuela in hopes that he can land an opportunity with a major league organization. This certainly isn’t the first time that Santana, now 37, has had a crack at a return, but his prior efforts have all been thwarted by injury. The two-time Cy Young winner has not seen major league action since 2012.

Needs a couple more big years to get to Cooperstown.

At the very least, you'd think he could be a Loogy.
It'd be cool if he pulled an Eckersley and could get 100 saves.

The Brewers announced on Monday that they’ve claimed right-handed reliever Steve Geltz off waivers from the Rays and designated minor league outfielder/first baseman Adam Walker for assignment.

sixthwi -> RE: Former Twins News (12/2/2016 3:16:26 PM)

The Orioles announced today that they’ve claimed outfielder Adam Walker off waivers from the Brewers. Milwaukee claimed Walker off waivers from the Twins two weeks ago but designated him for assignment last week when they claimed right-hander Steve Geltz from the Rays.

Baltimore LOVES the home run. I think Walker makes Mark Reynolds (who also spent time with the Orioles) look like a contact hitter. Way too many whiffs for me to keep the faith

Ben Revere has agreed to a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins. Revere made his major league debut with the Twins after being drafted in the 1st round (28th overall) of the 2007 MLB draft.

Never realized this until last night .....

Ron Coomer was the reason the Cubs broke their drought.
Makes sense now.

The Twins should try this formula. They have gone in the tank ever since they dropped the GB Leighton bit. Coincidence? I think not.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (12/14/2016 8:54:11 PM)

The Brewers announced on Wednesday that they’ve signed left-hander Tommy Milone to a one-year, Major League contract. His addition gives the team a full 40-man roster, though Milone did not receive a fully guaranteed contract, tweets Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

It's baffling that the Chicago market embraces Coomer as their color guy. He was half a step above awful on FSN all those years.

Torii Hunter Jr. said Thursday that he will forgo a fifth year of school and football to pursue a baseball career with the Angels, who signed him in June after drafting him.

Never really saw much of him playing at ND. This seems like a surprise.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (1/11/2017 6:27:44 AM)

The Athletics have an agreement in place with free agent infielder Trevor Plouffe, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). The deal, which is pending a physical, will be a one-year agreement, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle (Twitter links). She adds that Plouffe is likely to see the bulk of the playing time at third base for the A’s next season, with Ryon Healy shifting to designated hitter and first base.

Yes! Plouffe goes to one of my favorite teams!

Billy Beane - GENIUS!

Finally, a ML that gets it. Give average-at best players who are crippled FA a one year deal at a time. Why invest guaranteed money into a guaranteed failure?
