Was everyone watching the Yankees game last night or something?

Always do, when I can.

Me too. Hoping they lose. Was disappointed last night, other than the Hicks heroics. I can live with that.

SoMnFan -> RE: Former Twins News (4/14/2017 10:59:52 AM)

They're great.
People watch to see em win, or lose.

I don't know if anyone saw the story on Rod Carew on CBS News with Scott Pelley last night. It was an awesome piece on him and the donor of his heart and kidneys. The donor was Baltimore Ravens TE Konrad Reuland who died of a brain aneurysm at age 29. They actually met when Reuland was a kid.

"Long before that massive heart attack landed him on the transplant list, the hall-of-famer played for the Minnesota Twins and California Angels. Along the way he earned a reputation for being great with kids, including one wide-eyed boy named Konrad Reuland.

“He gets in the car, big eyes and everything -- he’s about 11, maybe 12 -- and he’s saying, ‘Mom, mommy, I met Rod Carew today! You know, he’s a pro athlete. I want to be a pro athlete.’ And the rest of the day that’s all he talked about was meeting Rod Carew,” Mary recalled".

Saw that/
Incredibly cool story

Yep...nice post Tim. The waterworks were flowing as I watched the story. Loved when Rod asked Reuland's mother to listen to her son's heart. How can you not get emotional watching a story like that.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (4/30/2017 4:33:12 PM)

The Giants have designated reliever Neil Ramirez for assignment and selected the contract of fellow reliever Bryan Morris from Triple-A, according to a club announcement.

Ramirez inked a minor league deal with the Giants over the winter and then made the team’s Opening Day bullpen. Things didn’t go well for the 27-year-old, though, as he threw 10 1/3 innings with the Giants this month and allowed 15 earned runs on 16 hits.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (5/1/2017 11:46:46 AM)

The Brewers announced that they’ve designated left-hander Tommy Milone for assignment and selected the contract of right-hander Rob Scahill from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Milone, 30, opened the season as the lone left-hander on the Brewers’ roster, and his departure will give Milwaukee an all-right-handed staff (h/t: MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy, on Twitter). The former Nationals, Athletics and Twins hurler has been a fairly regular contributor in the Majors in each of the past five big league seasons, but Minnesota elected to outright him following the 2016 season rather than give him a raise on last year’s $4.5MM salary.

The soft-tossing Milone got quality results in the Oakland and Minnesota rotations from 2012-15, averaging 25 starts per season to go along with a 3.98 ERA, 6.5 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9. However, he slipped to a 5.71 ERA last year in Minnesota and ultimately lost his rotation spot. Milone’s ERA has continued to balloon in Milwaukee, where he’s logged a 6.43 mark through his first 21 frames, though his outstanding 16-to-2 K/BB ratio lends some optimism for a turnaround.

Milone is on a very affordable one-year deal that came with a mere $1.25MM base salary. Of that modest sum, just $1.05MM remains, so he’d make for a reasonable pickup should any club with rotation injuries wish to make a claim on waivers (or a minor trade). That said, Milone’s ceiling as a back-of-the-rotation starter, his recent struggles and the remaining cash on his deal could allow him to pass through waivers. At that point, he’d have the right to refuse a minor league assignment in favor of free agency, although as a player with fewer than five years of Major League service time, doing so would mean forfeiting the remaining money on his contract. As such, if has passes through waivers unclaimed, it seems likely that he’d remain in the organization and hope to work his way back to the Major League roster.

Aaron Hicks has one of the best bats in the New York Yankees' lineup a month into the season. The former Twins' first-round draft pick started 2017 coming off the bench, but his consistency has earned more time in the starting lineup.

Hicks, who played three seasons in Minnesota, is hitting .300 with five home runs and 11 RBI. He also has more walks (11) than strikeouts (eight) and an impressive 1.059 on-base plus slugging percentage.

The switch-hitting outfielder hit his fifth home run of the season Tuesday night by blasting a 93 mph high fastball nearly into the right-field upper deck.

With the first month of the 2017 season behind us, here is a check-in on five other former Twins:

Trevor Plouffe, infielder
Plouffe returned to Target Field Tuesday batting eighth and playing third base for the Oakland Athletics. The former Twins’ first-round draft pick singled and struck out in four plate appearances while the A’s were blown out 9-1.

Oakland manager Bob Melvin told media Tuesday that Plouffe has provided a great presence in the clubhouse, but also noted his slow start.

“He’s all about his team. He’s gotten off to a little bit of a slow start, but he’s also hit some home runs, and some big home runs for us,” Melvin said. “He’s the type of guy we’ve had to hide him down in the lineup a little bit right now. But the next thing you know, with one swing of the bat it could be a three-run home run.”

Plouffe, who played seven seasons with the Twins, has a .209 batting average, four home runs and nine RBI in 25 games with Oakland.

Kurt Suzuki, catcher
Suzuki is splitting time at catcher for the Atlanta Braves and has appeared in 14 games. He struggled to catch knuckleball pitcher R.A. Dickey early in the season, but appears to have settled into the role after four starts together. Suzuki is hitting just .200 with one home run and eight RBI.

Ricky Nolasco, pitcher
Nolasco had his best start of the season last weekend against the A’s, holding them to just one run and striking out four through 5.2 innings. The Los Angeles Angels’ righthander has pitched well in three of five starts, but was knocked around twice in the first month to push his ERA above five. Nolasco, who spent pieces of three seasons with the Twins, has limited damage in his past two outings to improve his ERA to 4.13 with 21 strikeouts and five walks.

Tommy Milone, pitcher
Milone appeared in six games and made three starts with the Milwaukee Brewers, but was designated for assignment Monday. In 21 innings, he gave up 29 hits, 15 runs, six home runs, won one game and saved a game. The inconsistent month produced a 6.43 ERA.

Oswaldo Arcia, outfield
Arcia failed to make the Arizona Diamondbacks big-league club out of spring training, but is showing off his power in Triple A. He has a .351 average and .701 slugging percentage with five home runs, three triples, six doubles and 24 RBI in 21 games. It might not be long until Arcia, who played four seasons with the Twins, is called up.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (5/4/2017 9:20:20 AM)

Arcia AAAA player [:D]

Alex Meyer tonight in Seattle as he starts for LAA. Had 6.16 ERA in 4 starts (19 IP) for AAA Salt Lake.
[:-]

Santiago for Meyer/Icky, and paying $ on Icky's Contract? Great trade

TJSweens -> RE: Former Twins News (5/4/2017 9:38:00 AM)

Icky was the Angels opening day starter. He is averaging about 5.1 innings per start and just lowered his ERA to 4.68 with his last outing. Meyer made one previous start with the Angels and lasted all of 3.2 innings. He was sent down and the Angels were so impressed with his 6.16 ERA in AAA that they called him back up. How pitching depleted is that organization? And yes, a tip of the cap to Rob Antony. Usually the Twins are on the receiving end of a boning like that.

Toronto's turn

The Blue Jays have claimed righty Neil Ramirez off waivers from the Giants, per a club announcement. San Francisco had recently designated him for assignment.
