Morneau is a really nice player, but I think he would have and will be better when surrounded by another superstar or two.

More a very capable Robin, than a Batman.
Doesn't have to be the Guy, but a very capable one of the boys.
In Minnesota, with Mauer and Hunter he might have had that.
He certainly has it now with Gonzales and Tulowitzki, and Cuddyer.[:-]

I could have shortened my post and I would have said all of the above by simply saying,

Morneau is Canadian.

Re: Hicks/Gomez, agree to disagree. And while I was as on board with the Hardy/Gomez trade as anyone (I lobbied for Hardy on here for years before that deal) there was no question that Gomez had the ability to be a stud and we all knew that going in. The same is true of Hicks.

McMurfy -> RE: Former Twins News (6/9/2014 10:03:00 PM)

Scott Baker is getting absolutely shell bombed against Cleveland.
Lonny Chisnhall has 3 HRs, is 5-5, and has 9rbis.

Agree to disagree is right. I do not see the same potential in Hicks as I did Gomez. Both were rushed but Gomez came up as a 21 year old and the Twins moved him by the time he got to be Hicks' current age. In fact, Gomez was already in Milwaukee before he reached Hicks' current age.

Cuddy at 3rd backfired at the Rockies.

Michael Cuddyer is expected to miss at least 6-8 weeks with a non-displaced fracture of the glenoid socket in his left shoulder. Cuddyer suffered the injury while trying to make a diving play at third base last Thursday.

Dave E -> RE: Former Twins News (6/10/2014 9:33:31 AM)

It's almost as if playing guys at positions they have never played/haven't played in years is a bad idea.

However .. it does increase the chances your manager who made the dumb moves in the first place ... can look like a genius, if the player puts in the work ... so it does have THAT going for it, which is, ya know ... nice....

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (6/11/2014 9:19:29 AM)

Pirates righthander Francisco Liriano left his start against the Cubs on Tuesday in the fourth inning with an apparent oblique injury.

While facing Anthony Rizzo for the second time of the night, Liriano grimaced after missing the zone with a pitch. Manager Clint Hurdle and the Pittsburgh training staff came out to check on Liriano. After making a few warmup tosses which made it clear he could not return, he headed into the clubhouse.

For the night, Liriano allowed a pair of earned runs on a two-run bomb by Rizzo and three hits while striking out four.

Jeff Allen -> RE: Former Twins News (6/11/2014 11:37:01 AM)

Wilson Ramos hurt again...and I was hoping he'd get to 500 AB...in the last THREE years!!!! And to think we traded him away to bolster the bullpen in a contending year. Sad.

TJSweens -> RE: Former Twins News (6/11/2014 12:03:42 PM)

Yes, because injuries are so predictable. BTW, who is Fat Crapps pitching for this year?

Who cares. He had 16 saves and a 2.89 ERA in 2010. Helped a contending team. That's what those trades are for...duh.

Just because he hasn't been in the bigs since 2012 (when he was 28) and his last year in a big leage system was 2013 (when he was 29) doesn't mean the Ramos/Capps trade was one of the worst in Twins' history, does it?

Dave E -> RE: Former Twins News (6/11/2014 12:19:55 PM)

Defending the indefensible. Next up on the Jeff Allen Show: Mussolini -- Misunderstood Genius?

The bullpen was already fine without him ... duh.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (6/13/2014 4:16:47 PM)

2:16pm: Kubel is expected to refuse an outright assignment to Triple-A and be released by the Twins, according to an update from Zach (Twitter link).

FRIDAY, 1:23pm: MLBTR’s Zach Links reports that Kubel has cleared waivers (Twitter link). Reports earlier in the week indicated that Kubel would not accept an assignment to Triple-A Rochester in the event that he cleared waivers, so it seems likely that he will instead elect free agency.

twinsfan -> RE: Former Twins News (6/13/2014 10:43:39 PM)

I can't believe anyone will take him. Well...I guess it's possible since I believe the twins will be paying him anyway. Right?
