Return of the VANIMAL

The Pirates will add Vance Worley to their 40-man roster in time for him to start on Monday, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writes. The Pirates acquired Worley from the Twins in a depth move in March, but since then he’s demonstrated stellar control at Triple-A Indianapolis (with just four walks in 46 innings), and the Pirates have dealt with injuries to Francisco Liriano, Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon, as well as the departure of Wandy Rodriguez. Worley’s start will be his first in the big leagues since last May 22, after which he had a 7.21 ERA with 4.6 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in 48 2/3 innings for Minnesota.

Amazing what a pitching coach can do for a guy.
Maybe he just go over the wind being an issue. [&o]

Official

The Twins have released outfielder/DH Jason Kubel, according to the MLB.com transactions page. Kubel was designated for assignment last week and his release seemed inevitable after (as MLBTR’s Zach Links reported) Kubel refused his outright assignment to Triple-A.

5 hits, 5 k's for Worley.

Dave E -> RE: Former Twins News (6/16/2014 12:56:29 PM)

You see the interview with Vanimal where he says he couldn't believe that the Twins made him the opening day starter last year b/c he wasn't healthy yet? Amazing stuff.

#MNTwins have NOT released Jason Kubel, I'm told. MLB.com transactions are wrong. Have until close of biz Tuesday

And just wtf are they waiting for? Pedro Florimon to prove that he sucks?

So is Slowey coming back?

Nah, he's on the Garza/Liriano side of the ledger, under Bridges Burned.

Stacey King -> RE: Former Twins News (6/16/2014 2:03:29 PM)

Marlins have a nice arm coming up Andrew Heaney.

Could be coming up to the bigs for Slowey. Not sure if that why Slowey's toast but Marlins have another power arm in their system in Heaney. This kid is a power lefty.

Jose Fernandez injury may have been the only thing keeping Redman's team from WS THIS season.

I know a team that does deserve him...

Managed by a blithering idiot,
Pitching coach is his best buddy and wants everyone to pitch the same way.
GM is old toast and his sychophant is currently running things while he's sick.
Owners apparently could care less about baseball, so long as they are making a buck.

sound familiar?

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (6/16/2014 2:31:47 PM)

Reusse reply

Don't worry about that reunion. @BillErchul @AJE710 @mlbtraderumors Twins will be all over bringing Slowey to spring training next yr.

I hope not. That would be like punishing Twins fans twice for the same crime.

Stacey King -> RE: Former Twins News (6/18/2014 10:14:30 AM)

The Rockies, however, are still deciding who will start Saturday's game against Milwaukee at Coors Field. Juan Nicasio was the scheduled starter, but the club optioned him to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday. The Rockies have a day off Thursday, which gave them a chance to move up their starters a day and simply skip Nicasio's spot in the rotation. But manager Walt Weiss said the Rockies won't do that and will instead bring in a pitcher for the Saturday start.

A possibility could be lefty Pedro Hernandez, now pitching at Triple-A. He's 5-3 with a rather high 5.92 ERA, but he does have 13 big-league starts.

Wow, can they take some of these awesome pitchers, Florimon and others off the Twins hands, too?

Vance Worley improved to 2-0, allowing one run over seven innings as the Pirates defeated the Mets 5-2 on Thursday.
That's three out of three quality starts for Worley since he made his 2014 debut on June 15. On Thursday, the right-hander allowed seven hits, walked two, and struck out three. He made one mistake, allowing a solo home run to Lucas Duda in the fourth inning. Now with a 1.74 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP, and a 12/3 K/BB ratio, Worley will look to keep it going against the Diamondbacks at home in his next start.
