I think Jim might be biased against Martinsville because it is a Sunday race in the middle of the NFL season. That's too bad. I think the fact they race on a Sunday in the middle of the NFL season is refreshing. Sure beats watching a meaningless game like Miami-Pittsburgh.

The only thing more meaningless than NASCAR to watch is Basketball.

I'd watch a pee wee league football team playing before I watched NASCAR.

You're just trying to be cool. Cool isn't a good look for a Trekkie.

HAH!  If I WANTED to be cool, why would I use a screen name that included both Trek and Geek?

BTW, you're a complete and utter boob on the basketball part, but you're right on the money on the rest of it.

Anyone watch the 30 for 30 on Tim Richmond?
Fascinating as hell to me.
Seeing NASCARs reaction to AIDS was compelling stuff.
Had no idea the guy was arguably one of the best drivers ever.

Saw it. It's the first 30-30 I've seen. It was a good one.

It's on the same time as NCIS so I will always miss that show

I'm kinda torn going into the Phoenix race today. Do I want Hamlin to basically wrap it up with a strong performance and a struggling day by Jimmie Johnson? Or do I root for Johnson to do well today, setting up an epic ending at Homestead where Johnson has a chance at a 5th consecutive championship?

Jim Frenette -> RE: NASCAR (11/14/2010 1:14:45 PM)

1st option. Don't want JJ close. Rather have Harvick and Hamlin fight it out

twinsfan -> RE: NASCAR (11/14/2010 2:49:17 PM)

Almost got your wish very early in the race, Jim. Johnson running back in traffic (24th?)....the 2 cars in front of him get tangled up, but they hold on. Had they lost it, Johnson would have been eaten up in an early wreck.

twinsfan -> RE: NASCAR (11/14/2010 4:13:17 PM)

The Chase format as presently constructed IS NOT WORKING!! I find it extremely fishy that the only 3 guys that have a chance at the title are all running in the Top 5 today. These are guys that don't even run very well at Phoenix, especially Hamlin. The other drivers are too afraid of rocking the boat, they are just letting those 3 guys run right past them and battle it out between themselves. Well, guess what?...Not much is going to change when they all come in 1-2-3 in these last two races. And that's about what I expect to happen. This Phoenix race is boring enough as it is....no need to make it more boring by not racing to win. Very disappointed in the end of the Chase every season. Something needs to change. Maybe make this Phoenix race a "wildcard" race every season....if you win, whether you are in the Chase or not, you start the final race in an automatic points tie with the overall points leader going into Homestead. Then maybe there'd be a little competition out there on the track today.

twinsfan -> RE: NASCAR (11/14/2010 4:36:43 PM)

This is a joke watching Harvick move up the field with ease. I knew that missed lugnut wouldn't hurt Harvick's finishing position. Nobody is fighting to keep him down. I'm tellin' ya, these guys are gonna finish 1-2-3 this race because nobody wants to race with them.

twinsfan -> RE: NASCAR (11/14/2010 5:08:22 PM)

Horrible pit stop management by Hamlin('s crew chief).

twinsfan -> RE: NASCAR (11/14/2010 5:21:43 PM)

Johnson is going to win this thing next week. He has the attitude. And he's an expert at getting in Hamlin's head. Did you hear that postrace interview of Johnson? He's got Denny and his team shaking in their boots.

SoMnFan -> RE: NASCAR (11/14/2010 5:25:19 PM)

Anyone try turning to the right today, Matt?

(hey! I held off for a couple hours, couldn't take it anymore. It ain't a Nascar thread without a jab or two)
Says the guy talking to himself in the Wild thread ....[&:]

You're right, it seems like no one is willing to race them hard as they would in June or July. Homestead is just as bad as Phoenix

twinsfan -> RE: NASCAR (11/17/2010 9:56:49 AM)

Final week predictions? I think Johnson wins the race (1st time at Homestead) and wins the title. Even if he doesn't win the race, I still predict he wins the title.

Jim Frenette -> RE: NASCAR (11/17/2010 10:10:33 AM)

This can't be JJ first time there as that closes the season every year.

I hope someone puts him into the wall

He's never won at Homestead. That's why I said "1st time." 1st time winning at Homestead.

Sorry, misunderstood[;)]

Didn't get your prediction.

Jim Frenette -> RE: NASCAR (11/17/2010 11:01:30 AM)

I think since it is so similar to Phoenix that Hamlin wins race and tittle

Whoa whoa whoa, Fargo.

So it's not okay for me wish a hamstring injury on Nick Punto, but it's okay for you to want Jimmy Johnson to crash into a wall at 200 mph?

Really?

The car gets hurt normally, not the driver

djskillz -> RE: NASCAR (11/17/2010 1:49:50 PM)

[&:][&:]

Either way, does that not hurt Jimmy?

He gets taken out of the race. That's really all I want with Nick Punto; him taken out of the game.

twinsfan -> RE: NASCAR (11/21/2010 12:28:27 PM)

And a couple laps into the race......if it were to end right now.....your 2010 NASCAR champion would be......Jimmie Johnson. By a hefty margin. He's in the driver's seat. [&:] Get it?

twinsfan -> RE: NASCAR (11/21/2010 12:31:19 PM)

Wonder if Jim is watching the Vikes or the race? I'm betting on the race. It's like the 2nd Super Bowl of racing this season. Daytona was the first. Too bad it's only on ESPN. Should be on ABC or FOX.

twinsfan -> RE: NASCAR (11/21/2010 12:35:51 PM)

Really, the only chance Harvick has today is if both Johnson and Hamlin wreck or have an engine go bad. Harvick should drive very aggressively today, and try to cause some sort of mayhem, and find a way to drive out of the mess himself, while watching Johnson and Hamlin get eaten up in the wreck.
