Do not understand that Kepler plan at all. Why have him play 1b? Why?

This is a real head scratcher to be sure. It the kid talented enough to play him in CF, then 1B is an absolute waste of his skills.

Is Alex Wimmers on the verge of resurrecting his career? He had 4 real stinkers earlier this year, but he is on a roll now. Hasn't given up a run in his last 3 starts covering 21.2 IP. He is also striking almost a batter per inning this year.

Never dreamed he'd come back like this. Everybody said he was Radke 2 when he was drafted. That case of the yips......... I still don't get it, and it's still troubling because I feel like they could return at any time. But at this rate you almost have to put him as a contender for a 2016 rotation spot. Just buyout Nolasco already, and don't re-up on pelfrey.

At the very least you give him a shot at a higher level in the 2nd half of the season.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/20/2015 10:44:30 AM)

It's encouraging from Wimmers, but I'm also not sold yet. He SHOULD be doing this to AA hitters. He's 26 already.

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/20/2015 11:43:17 AM)

He also lost significant time to TJ. Like I said, is he on the VERGE of resurrecting his career. We''ll see what happens when he gets to AAA.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/20/2015 12:19:21 PM)

Yep, we can hope for sure. If nothing else hopefully he's an asset to use as a trade chip. We have several trades to make.

The Twins need two bats minimum in this lineup. We have a few pitchers to offer so go out and get some help TR! NOW!

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/22/2015 12:09:05 AM)

Kepler's 2 walks today put him at 23 walks/23 K's on the year. To go with an almost 1.000 OPS. [:-] Pretty damn impressive for the 5-tool German 22-year old.

Made it to Clinton, IA for a Cedar Rapids game today. Mad Max Murphy had a HR and a double, but there's not a lot to love about that team. Gordon didn't play today (nor did Vavra), and I was expecting to see Jorge pitch, which also didn't happen. I guess getting primed for the AS game?

Just a very small (short) team with not much for athletes. The anti-Skillz/Murf/SMF team. I'm not sure any of the guys playing today will end up making the majors. About the only 2 guys I came away semi-impressed with were in relief.

Booser absolutely has "stuff". Was hitting 96 on the gun from the left side. But got into a jam and had some control issues.
Hildenberger was pretty damn deceptive with a funky sidearm delivery. Struck out the side in the 9th and was certainly overmatching guys (as he has done all year) at this level. He needs to be moved up to Ft. Myers to see if his stuff plays higher. He's 24.

Wilson started. I was not impressed with him at all. LeBlanc solid but unspectacular, IMO. Night and day the talent (longterm) of the guys at Cedar Rapids right now and at Chattanooga.

SoMnFan -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/22/2015 9:21:58 AM)

Great report.
Thanks skillz.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/22/2015 9:42:11 AM)

Kepler is deserving of a promotion...don't care if it is AAA or Majors just give the kid one.

So Kepler is left handed too? We should have a really good mix of Lefty/Righty. Hicks would be a perfect 4th OF against lefties.

No reason not to see that happen, imo.
Looking forward to getting a glimpse of that kid.

I wouldn't object to the Twins moving up several of their prospective future players and ride the bus with those guys. Nothing is happening with the current roster.

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/22/2015 10:43:24 AM)

I hate pulling kids up for the sake of making a move. Bring them up because they are ready. Otherwise you are just setting them up to fail.

BA .342
OBP .413
OPS .972

Maybe he isn't ready for the Majors yet but he for sure can go to AAA.

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/22/2015 2:17:30 PM)

I wasn't talking specifically about Kepler, who should definitely be moving to Rochester. I was talking more about the idea of just pulling a bunch of the kids up if the Twins flounder.

81 and 82 Orlando Twins were loaded with most of the core '87 team.
TK managed the 82 Orlando Twins.
When most of those guys were promoted, TK was as well, to Gardner's 83 team.
We all know the rest.
