Why is Kepler still in AA?

A couple things that I have considered on this same thought (you know I'm his biggest fan):

1) Dougy and perhaps they're going to take the AA to majors approach either in September or the spring.
2) Maybe just keep him comfortable. He's never had a year like this before, so maybe let him ride it out all year.
3) Perhaps they want to see him adjust without the other pieces in the lineup around him for an extended period of time.

I think he should be up too, but those are the 3 most likely reasons otherwise IMO.

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/24/2015 12:42:08 PM)

I guess I can see the logic in keeping him with Dougie and Chad Allen if he isn't getting called up to the majors. Those two are making quite a name for themselves and will no doubt be coaching AAA next year.

Stacey King -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/25/2015 2:27:14 PM)

The Rochester Red Wings bolstered their already-strong pitching staff on Saturday by signing right-hander Michael Bowden.

To make room, the Wings sent right-hander Greg Peavey back to Double-A Chattanooga.

Bowden, 28, was chosen with the 47th pick in the 2005 draft by the Boston Red Sox and has appeared in 103 Major League Baseball games, two as a starter and 101 as a reliever.

He had been used in both roles by the Norfolk Tides this season, opening the year in the bullpen before moving into the Tides rotation in mid-May. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound native of Winfield, Illinois, made nine starts.

He opted out of his contract with the Baltimore Orioles organization last week.

His addition gives the Red Wings a very strong rotation with Tyler Duffey, Taylor Rogers, Jose Berrios and Pat Dean.

In 24 International League games this season he was 7-2 with a sparkling 1.91 earned-run average. He allowed 60 hits and 20 walks while striking out 52 in 75 1/3 innings. He had a very admirable 1.06 WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched).

Bowden's career Triple-A record with Pawtucket, Iowa and Norfolk is 23-20 with a 2.97 ERA. That includes a 1.14 WHIP.

He has a fastball that consistently hits 92 or 93 and complements it with a slider and cutter.

The Wings faced him twice and he got the best of them. In 8 2/3 total innings (3.1 in relief on May 3, 5.1 in a May 22 start), he allowed six hits, 1 run, 1 walk and fanned 8. The run was an Aaron Hicks homer at Frontier Field on May 3.

His most effective MLB season came in 2012 with the Chicago Cubs, when he made 30 relief appearances and had a 2.95 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 36 2/3 innings. But, no, he didn't pitch for Wings manager Mike Quade that season. Quade was with the Cubs in 2010 and managed them in 2011.

Bowden also made 34 relief appearances in 2013 for the Cubs (1-3, 4.30 ERA, 1.25 WHIP).

Peavey started seven games for the Wings since a mid-June promotion. He came up to Triple-A when Jason Wheeler was sent to Chattanooga.

Peavey went 1-5 with a 5.45 ERA for the WIngs. His WHIP was 1.57 and opponents had a .314 batting average.

His one victory in a Wings uniform came on Sunday, when he pitched six innings and was hit fairly hard but allowed just two runs to Lehigh Valley. He didn't get out of the fourth inning in Friday's start at Columbus, allowing six hits and five earned runs (eight total) in the 8-4 loss.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/26/2015 3:03:07 AM)

I always have liked Bowden. Still kind of surprised he didn't make it. He was the "other" guy (along with Lars Anderson) being discussed along with Lester/Lowrie/Ellsbury/Buchholz/Masterson around the time of the Johan deal.

Worth a try.

I like taking a look at Bowden.

Classic TR scrap heap find though.

The real question though is: Who will TR select off the scrap heap before the weekend?

The time is coming very soon for Mr. Berrios. I'd give Milone/Pelfrey 1-2 more shots each in the rotation, then it's time for May/Berrios. Put Milone/Pelfrey in the pen to help out there.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/29/2015 9:07:51 PM)

Here is the "next 3rd baseman" prospect. Will be awesome to see him in AA in 6 or 7 years.
Is pretty amazing Blankenhorn was promoted to Eliz at age 18. SHOCKING for the Twins.

Kohl Stewart through 5 innings in Daytona: 4 hits, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 3 WP and HBP.

Had 6 WP, 3 HBP in his first 91.2 IP.

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/1/2015 9:24:43 AM)

What the hell is going on with Stewart? When he was drafted there were scouting services that projected him as the best pitcher in the draft. Now he can't strike people out and gives up a lot of hits. His numbers aren't atrocious, but I think everyone expected a lot better at high A.

Someone to put on the far radar

hit .400+ at GCL in 95 at bats

now 7-14 at Eliz, already 2 dingers away from the GCL Fields.

Dunno how accurate size measurements are. But the kid is hitting.
