1) I didn't say he's "the" strongest on the team. But thanks for twisting words.
2) That's my guess. I've made no statement as if it's fact. r by using some random internet picture, versus observations in person/up close. There have been a variety of posters (from all sides of this issue) that have all commented on how big/strong/fit Joe looks in ST over the last several years. I have yet to hear someone say he looks "out of shape" in that observation window.

Let's not get hung out on semantics. You said "one of the" strongest and I disagree BIG TIME.

Let's put aside pitchers, because they have a different set of skills. As far as position players go I would say that Mauer is more than likely one of the weaker guys. Hicks, Hunter, Plouffe. Dozier, Suzuki are all guys who aren't bulky but have dense muscle mass. I'd venture to say all of those players are serious with the weights in the off season. The middle infielders are a bit different. As a matter of fact, weightlifting is HUGE in baseball. Every position player needs to lift or do something to increase strength during the winter. As far as younger players and prospects go, many of the callups haven't met their full strength potentional. That comes in your 30s. During these years Mauer should be his strongest.

And Dustin, this isn't some conclusion that was drawn from some "random" picture. The picture was not randomly chosen. It was chosen to illustrate a point and there are many pictures and several videos that show (pretty clearly) that Joe has very little muscle density. Also, please understand the difference between bulk and muscle density.

I cannot understand why you feel nothing can be gleaned about a person's strength and conditioning after years of observation. The guy needs to work with weights during the winter. Period. He ain't that strong for hs size.

McMurfy -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/17/2015 4:44:32 PM)

I've never heard one announcer, player, coach, or opponent mention Joe's strength.
I'd guess he's actually one of the weakest guys on the team.

McMurfy -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/17/2015 4:45:41 PM)

He says so in the video, he doesn't like lifting.

He does say that, but do we really need that video or some of the pictures posted?

Black 47 -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/17/2015 5:25:33 PM)

When I first started watching the video I thought it was 2005'ish. Then it got to the end and I couldn't believe how recent it was. My favorite part was the wrist curls when he said "feel that burn". [&:]

That video was prior to the 2012 season. I can't believe FSN would even air that. Does absolutely nothing but damage his public image. After the stunt he pulled in 2011, they show him doing wrist curls and cable rows. Amazing.

You didn't hear about the Grand Forks Wal-Mart incident, huh? Being in the military (God bless them) doesn't guarantee sanity.

The first thing I thought about with the horrific terrorist attack yesterday was the Twins AA team. What a depressing day. Does somebody want to tell me why we don't allow our MILITARY to arm themselves in public areas? We can't trust our military with a gun? They were sitting ducks. And the terrorist knew it.

It's as if that video was put out just to show everyone that Joe actually hits the gym, but that workout was atrocious. He's talking while he's "working out"[&:]

Good lord. IF you're talking during a set you ain't doing what you're supposed to do.

If he put in 4 days of FOCUSED weight training a week (with a solid diet) just 30-40 minutes a day he would be completely transformed within a couple of months

So because .0000000001% of soldiers are insane we won't let the rest protect themselves? If an insane military person wants to shoot
a place up, no sign is going to stop him anyway. The 99.9999999% who ARE sane should be allowed the opportunity to defend themselves. These recruitment centers are targets. Its absurd we don't trust our own soldiers with a gun.

Ya, what the heck is that Matt? I have a friend who is retired military (active duty in the Gulf War) and a friend who is a cop (soon to retire). You couldn't ask for two better guys. I am a teacher and there are teachers who do bad things. Do I need to own that as well?
I actually take offense when someone feels the need to correct me after I thank someone for their service. When those two NY city cops were shot in cold blood around Christmas time I made sure to text my buddy. Can I just thank these guys for their service and leave it at that? Always needs to be a comment. Same type of deal with cops.

twinsfan -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/18/2015 11:40:37 AM)

Has there been a study that shows military people have a lower rate of insanity and/or gun rage than the general public? My guess is they run about equal.

twinsfan -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/18/2015 11:43:18 AM)

Basically this boils down to a philosophical difference again. I prefer fewer guns altogether.

In a perfect world that sounds dandy...but those are utopian ideals. That's like saying I like less violence as opposed to more violence. It is real easy to sound right up in an ivory tower built on utopian ideals that aren't really practical for a lot of people.
What if you own a private business and have lots of capital investments (machinery, equipment, etc) on your property?
Doesn't that person have a right to protect his allotment? What about a farmer who has to rid his fields of pests that devour the meal ticket he works so hard to harvest and sell? My friend who's family owned (and still owns) this organic food produce stand HAD TO combat deer all the time. He wasn't doing it for the thrill of shooting things up, I guarantee you.

This really isn't the appropriate forum for this. I am sorry for firing it up here.

Black 47 -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/18/2015 4:13:29 PM)

Soldiers at recruiting centers are targets. They should be able to protect themselves. Why do we worry about the good guys having guns? It's the bad guys we should be worrying about. BANNING GUNS ON THE PREMISES DOES NOT PREVENT DEATHS. All it does is give the bad guys free reign to kill more people. Very likely would have been less deaths in Chatanooga had those soldiers been armed.

McMurfy -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/18/2015 5:47:51 PM)

We are ALMOST in lock step on those, Murf. There's room in the middle. We just have to rise up.

You'd think they'd be OK with a standard issued sidearm.

Guys there is a gun thread in the politics forum. Please take it over there.
