Berrios with another sick performance tonight. 7 IP, 12 K, 98 pitches. No reason for him to be burning innings in the minors. Get him up here.

Prob deserves to be our bench bat over Vargas or Arcia? If TR doesn't call up Walker/Kepler/Berrios/and a couple of Pen arms something is wrong with him....1st quote will be "They need their guys for the playoffs"

Move Nolasco and Erv to the pen if needed. First things GMs do when starters can't stay healthy (usually) is put them in the pen---why didn't Nolasco go there early in the season?

Twins prospect Max Kepler has progressed greatly since signing out of Germany as a teenager, as Parker Hageman of TwinsDaily.com writes in an interesting look at the 22-year-old. “His [development] was limited out of Germany,” said VP of player personnel Mike Radcliff. “Played a lot more soccer games than he did baseball games before he was signed. It takes patience and we have a lot of that in our organization, thankfully.”
Kepler, who joined the Minnesota organization for a $800K bonus, is one of an increasingly promising group of European prospects who have come to North American baseball in recent years. He has been outstanding in his first run at the Double-A level, slashing .334/.420/.558 with nine home runs and 16 stolen bases over 431 plate appearances.

Well, when I brought it up an "expert" told me that K rate will not work and as such
it is written.
Walker never will, play for the Twins,
Best bet is to trade him.

The mighty, powerful, loaded Dodgers looking to make a couple improvements to their bullpen for the stretch run.
Guess what with?
Young untested minor league power arms.
Hmmm.

MDK -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/28/2015 10:33:24 AM)

No reason that Berrios can't get his first taste at the major league level by coming out of the pen. You can still limit his innings for the season and get a badly needed boost for the pen. Since we are at Aug 28, wait now until Sept callups.

MDK -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/28/2015 11:20:20 AM)

Jesse from Twinkietown has a nice update on the top 30 prospects in the Twins system. Looks like Hu has struggled after his trade. Meyer appears to have settled down. Burdi is back with the Lookouts and doing better.

http://www.twinkietown.com/2015/8/28/9219589/minnesota-twins-top-30-prospect-update-8-28-2015

I thought Jesse's analysis of Rosario was pretty interesting...........points for discussion.

All Rosario has done is stick around in the Major Leagues as a rookie when nobody expected him to. He's amassed the sixth-most plate appearances for the Twins in 2015 and has played in the seventh-most games, hitting .274/.296/.452. It's a fine performance from a rookie who didn't show up until a week into the month of May, but he's taken one walk since August 1. The batting average is fine and we always knew that he was capable of hitting for average, but he doesn't profile like a player who will regularly slug .450. If he doesn't learn to walk more often, his upside as a player is going to be very limited. I'm not trying to harsh anyone's buzz here, because I really like Rosario, but he looks primed for serious regression in 2016 unless something changes.

Rosario does need to improve on the number of walks and an obp of 296 will need to improve. But looking at how easily Rosario has made the transition, i think he will continue to improve. I think the power he has shown 15 doubles 10 triples and 8 HR's in 332 at bats was clearly not expected but he probably won't get as many triples in the future......they will be doubles and that will drop the slg down somewhat. I don't think people expected that he would have much HR power. But he hasn't hit cheap homers....many of them have been hard hit balls.

Even if half of his triples were to be doubles....a line of 15 / 5 / 8 for 332 at bats would equate to 30/10/16 for a season. Not too shabby.

wethrock -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/30/2015 11:02:28 PM)

The end of the RockCats. Last home game today; they move to Hartford to a very unfinished stadium for next April. This is the result of an absentee owner; onsite General Manager who will not answer the simplest comment/question, and a staff that is antagonistic to the paying fans. Attendance has dropped ever since the new owner took over. At today's final game, nothing was said by any team official to the fans. Former owners (Bill Dowling and prior to him, Joe Buzas) were usually available and their staffs acted professionally. Much bad press coverage locally this week about the style changes I've described above.
On the field, some interesting comments: Colorado has some good young players who were here. Trevor Story, SS with power; Tom Murphy, C with power and strong defense; Jordan Patterson, power hitting OF/1B; best of all, Jeff Hoffman, impressive starting pitcher that Colo. got at trade deadline from Toronto in the Tulowitzki deal. First year in pro ball out of college, 95 MPH, excellent control, s/b in majors in a couple of years.
