Burdi

I've heard he's been shut down. It's being called a "bone bruise on his right humerus." Not much info yet.

Did you see this? unreal.

Just sixteen years old, she was choked, injected with poison, tied to a van and then burned to death -- all in the name of honor.

More than a dozen people have been arrested, including the mother of the victim, after the teenage girl's charred skeleton was found last Friday.
Police in Abbottabad, in Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said the death was a so-called honor killing ordered by a tribal council after the girl, named Ambreen, allegedly helped a neighbor and her boyfriend elope.

You would think so. What would it hurt to promote early??

dougie says burdi not injured too seriously

Told testing shows he should be back throwing in about 2 weeks

Burd iwas picked to be a fast track member of the big lg club.

the only reason you take 1-pitch or 1 and 1/2 pitch college relievers that high.

he has been a fail so far. put him in the discard bin along with 91% of the other college relievers the FO has picked in the 2nd round.

The track record has been pretty bad.

Which is why the AA group has to be pushed a little bit more. They are wasting time and arms there.

And it's really college pitchers they've drafted as a whole these past xxxx years.

Very few have made it to/past AAA. Horrible scouting.

And I can only imagine how bad this June's draft will be when we are not in the top 5 teams picking. Hopefully a new scouting department will be in place when we return there in 2017.

I read on BA that the one strong spot in this year's draft is catcher. Deep.

Stacey King -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/6/2016 1:27:38 PM)

College position players are always a highly valued commodity in the draft. Scouts can watch college players develop over several years, establishing a level of comfort in their evaluations that cannot be matched by prep players. Furthermore, evaluators can watch college players against strong competition each spring, as well as the summer, when many of the top collegiate prospects participate in highly competitive wood-bat leagues.

Some positions are valued more than others in the draft process, with up-the-middle defenders often carrying the most potential. This year’s college class is light on shortstops and outfielders who could stick in center field at the next level, but the depth of college catching has emerged as a strength of the 2016 class.

There’s some depth in college catching,” an American League scouting director said. “There is no slam dunk superstar, but there may be a lot of big leaguers.”

This year’s catchers could come off the board quickly. Even if there are just a few everyday players, the class could still produce several major leaguers.

Of the 30 starting catchers in the majors, 15 were drafted out of college. Of the 34 backup catchers to appear in the major leagues so far this season, 13 were drafted out of college.

It’s clear that teams see value in college catchers. Whether it’s for their experience, leadership skills or longer track records, they are valued early in the draft, and fill many of the major league catching roles.

nictaclact: Do you think that Tyler Jay can develop into a relevant starter or revert back to the bullpen?

Vincent Lara-Cinisomo: Yes, absolutely believe it. Got to see Jay quite a bit last year in regionals and super regionals and his ball just has a different sound. One scout compare him to Cliff Lee for stuff and mound demeanor. I think his slider is very good

Stacey King -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/6/2016 5:05:51 PM)

The Red Wings are activating bullpen catcher Brett Doe tonight with John Ryan Murphy not yet here in Pawtucket.

Stacey King -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/6/2016 7:34:54 PM)

Twins scout Larry Corrigan was hospitalized in Little Rock, Ark., after suffering a stroke while attending a Double-A Texas League game between Springfield (Mo.) and Northwest Arkansas in Springdale, Ark., earlier this week.

Corrigan, 65, was still unable to speak or walk as of Friday morning, according to his scouting associates.

Corrigan is a longtime associate of Twins general manager Terry Ryan. A former pitcher and fourth-round Draft choice of the Dodgers in 1972, Corrigan pitched in the Dodgers' and Twins' farm systems for six years.

Following his playing career, he coached baseball at his alma mater, Iowa State, and at Cal State Fullerton before joining the A's as an area scout. He then joined the Twins' staff for a 20-year stint that saw him serve as the team's West Coast supervisor, director of scouting, Minor League field coordinator and then a special assistant to Ryan from 1999-2007.

Corrigan left the Twins to be a special assistant to Pirates general manager Neal Huntington in 2008 following Ryan's initial retirement as Twins GM. After four years with the Pirates, Corrigan spent two years as a special assignment scout with the Angels before rejoining the Twins following the 2013 season, a year after Ryan came out of retirement to oversee the franchise again.

Buck has about 86 minor league games above Hi-A ball.

I am going to give him a little longer leash to find his way.
