TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/23/2016 9:11:47 AM)

I would agree with that assessment. Al Newman was saying the same thing last night on Fox 9. Right now Buxton's development should take precedence over whether or not he could help the team more than the assorted crap currently on the roster. Right now Buxton has 4 BB and 12 K in just 59 PA. That will get exploited immediately if he comes back up now. Kepler got off to a slow start, but is coming on strong with his hitting and his BB/K is 15/13 in 119 PA. Based on that I would rather see Kepler even though Buxton is a little ahead in avg, slg and ops.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/23/2016 9:16:14 AM)

It's already a lost season in Minneapolis, so might as well either leave them all down for seasoning or bring them all up and learn the hard way. I vote for the seasoning.

Best to just leave them where they are until someone over TR's head gets enough sense to fire him.

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/23/2016 9:42:57 AM)

Agreed. At least in the case of Buxton. The last thing he needs right now is to be set up to fail again. I would be OK with bringing up Kepler soon, provided the plan is to play him every day and not have him sit behind Santana, Arcia, Grossman and Mastro. And Chargois should be promoted IMMEDIATELY!

SoMnFan -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/23/2016 10:01:13 AM)

Kepler inserted into an OF spot Daily
Chargois up, and inserted as a 7th or 8th inning guy when needed
Polanco up and as an equal time-sharer with Dozier and Esky at 2nd/ss

Maestro should simply be given his walking papers. His name on the roster is a wasted spot.

But TR protects his coveted "white" veteran players who have guaranteed contracts. Perkins should simply be released by the Twins for his comments about his sore shoulder. PAB gets paid the same money whether he pitches or doesn't pitch. DL time is easy. No bad appearances, no blown saves. His wife doesn't have to protect him on his twitter site. So why not take the free money if your employer has no rules or accountability for you.

We get it. I never realized the Twins dropped the ball entirely with Luis Polanco. How did he lose his options so quickly? We never knew ye Luis! At least give the guy his 500+ AB to see what he can do at the ML level. Or is it 1,000 AB? 42 ML AB and they are ready to let this guy walk and become a 8-10 year ML starter for another team.

Jorge Polanco is out of options AFTER this season. Not right now. They can yo-yo him all season. He will make the team out of spring training 2017 barring a trade out of here.
They pretty much want him at AAA all season getting ABs and fielding reps. Injuries forced him up here this season for his cups of coffee.

Kid can hit though

i've seen a couple of buxton's hits recently. i don't see much of a leg kick from the view i saw. if it is there now, it is very slight.

might be back to hitting the same way he was.

very interested if that is true.

This is a double to the gap on May 22. Nice leg kick on this one. Not too much but enough to shift his balance back.

The low BB ratio indicates to me that he is still free swinging like Eddie Rosario. With that approach, Buxton will still K at a 40% rate at the ML level.

Even when Rosario was hitting well last year, his obp (289) wasn't that much higher than his BA (267).

Granted, I want Buxton to increase his BB to K ratio. But whether or not Buxton develops a great ability to draw walks, most important is that he reduce his K's and allow his speed to help and beat out infield hits and to force infielders to make errors. Right now, his obp is 55 points higher than his BA. Whereas Rosario was a 22 point difference.

I am not advocating Buxton coming back early....I want him to get sufficient at bats and until we change our disastrous course, he can really stay in Rochester. But I still want him up here some point in the season to see MLB pitching.
