The people in charge do a poor job of evaluation.

Or

More likely

The Signability factor doesn't translate into actual talent.

The fact that the minor league (farm system) is so void of legitimate talent is what makes following this team and organization so frustrating. An enema is correct for this organization. But even in the unlikely event this were to happen (about 1% chance), we would have to allow the new regime a minimum of three years just to draft and restock the minor league system. And then, we would have to wait another season (4th year) before any of those prospects could even be considered worthy of a try at the ML level. Realistically, we are talking five years. And that effort would have to be coordinated with a few trades at the ML level for players ready to play for the Twins, plus further development of our existing prospects who by that time would already be FA eligible and demanding big bucks. And the cycle continues. ~sigh~

It won't be five years...you need 2 stud starting pitchers, decent bullpen, and good positional players.....I think we are close on the positional players. Right GM can figure out the rest.

Look at the Cubs....it all came together quickly after Arrieta developed. Just think if May/Meyer had developed as thought. If Buxton, Sano, Polanco, and Berrios take off next year...along with some of the bullpen guys (Chargois, Reed, Burdi, Jones)...we would be close.

Roch's slide continued, no offense, just 4 hits, 2-0 loss

Polanco 1-3/BB, Walker 1-3/double,Mastro 1-3

Wheeler 6-2 6IP 9H/2R/2BB/6K/pick-off
Boshers .2IP
Walden 1.1IP H/BB/K

FTM scored 3 in the 7th, but fell short 4-3

Maloney 1-4/2R HR(1), Murray 1-4/double/R/RBI, Corcino 1-4/double/R

Steele 4-7 6IP 6H/4R/BB/3K
Landa 2IP

So what you are implying Ed is that Rochester's cubboards are completing bare right now. The Twins have exhausted pretty much all immediate help offensively with the exception of Polanco who does not appear to be part of the Twins future plans.

Yes, Polanco is about it.

Rest of the team

AB Walker: Power, but k's...a ton
Britton: Lifer
Tovar: Cooled off, Emergency SS not on 40man
Beresford: Lifer
Murphy: Now hitting .220 ish
Paulino: Backup catcher. has had a couple cups of coffee
Field: Lifer
Meneses: Slappy
Park: Mess
Mastro: we already know
Schafer: Brewers failure, lifer, soon to be 30

That's it for Roch right now.

And in AA:

Garver: C/1B/Dh, showing power, apparently still so-so behind the plate
Palka: Power. Why not at AAA? maybe after their AS break
Turner: Supposedly "the next catcher" in his 2nd year at AA, still only.220
Goodrum: Some spark, bad defense.Likely to be utility, but mostly OF.
DJ Hicks: 2nd or 3rd year at AA. Needs new venue.
Vielma: SS possibility. Injury prone
Michael: Stuck at AA
Ryan Walker: has shown some pop; 24, so on track, not ready
Reginatto: Bounced around. 26, at AA
Harrison: Still waiting for power. also needs new venue(AAA)
Granite: Surprise guy. Mostly slap and speed, 30+ stolen bases. Average near .300 after slow start. occasional pop
Wilkerson: lifer, can't get past AA

So there you have it. Bare? Pretty darn close.

Time to cut bait with Michael, and probably Harrsion and Goodrum.

Where exactly do you find two stud starting pitchers? There are probably not more than two dozen in all of ML baseball that one might consider top tier level. The Twins haven't had one since Johan. Even finding one for this crappy franchise seems virtually impossible. Berrios would have to suddenly blossom into everything that anyone ever thought he could be and then some as a start. Free agency is not an option for the Twins to find a top tier pitcher. Their losing record would prohibit any player seeking WS titles to take a long shot and come here. The Twins have to earn some respect within the league. That takes time.

You don't need 2 top 10 or top 12 pitchers. How good was KC Starting Pitching last year? I don't think they had a top 12 starter. They had the #1 bullpen and #1 defense though. Need a GM and FO smart enough to figure out how to get there.

You figure we spent Sherzer money on Hughes, Santana, and Nolasco. I would go after someone on a down year or injured....or spend money and a Intl FA pitcher.

Dang. forgot the other one we needed to see happen. Palka was promoted to AAA.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/7/2016 1:56:14 PM)

Palka has to improve his K rate too. 100 in 300 at bats

Still hit .270 and walked 38 times in 79 games.

but that's a lot of strikeouts

Walker is scary

Hitting .224, 13 doubles/16 hrs in 76 games

but

268 at bats 30 walks/124 strikeouts [:-]

Struck out 195 times at AA last year
in 502 at bats

On Tyler Jay

Doogie:

Told Jay starting on Saturday, and expected to make at least a couple starts at AA.

John Manuel/Baseball America

The #Twins have promoted Tyler Jay to @ChattLookouts. He'll pitch out of bullpen rest of this year to keep a lid on his workload
To me, Twins prospects have been rushed too much of late. Jay could go to AFL, good call.
