I watched a good portion of that game yesterday. Gordon needs to put on some weight/muscle. English looks like a stud defensive CF. Might be a good trade chip when he becomes major league ready.

English probably is a 4th OF.

The guy they added from AA to the 40-man is probably as good, better base stealer and hitter.

Question regarding Plouffe: Couldn't the Twins have traded him instead of out-righting him? Did the Twins attempt to trade him?

It was 40-man roster day

Plouffe had to be offered a qualifying offer contract...8 mill..and traded

or traded to someone who would have had to offer him 8 mill

Not seen any indication of an attempt to trade.

You risk a bad trade or keeping him at 8-10 million...they still can resign him for less by out-righting him now..

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (11/21/2016 9:28:43 AM)

I don't think they can resign him until after the season starts. When a team outrights a player in Plouffe's position, that's pretty well the end of the road. In answer the other part of the question, Plouffe is not a player somebody is going to give to give up an asset to get. In that case he still has arbitration leverage and his new team would have to pay him 8-10M. Just not realistic.

Darren Wolfson ✔ @DWolfsonKSTP
They tried. Before his Sept. injury, #MNTwins official on Aug. 22 on trade interest in Plouffe: "Crickets." Reported that then.

IMO, Plouffe represents everything that is wrong with the Twins over the past six seasons. He has been a regular player on arguably the worst MLB team over the past six seasons. He is the epitome of a player who has gotten a free ride because he is considered to be above average on a well below average team. Joe Mauer is the leader in this regard. A complete loser.

Not totally correct...Plouffe produces but is injured all the time. Can't pay someone 8-10 million that only plays half the year....that is the main reason he was cut. We could have signed Freese for a third of the cost.

I agree. But Joe Mauer plays in only 75% of the games and makes $23 million.

Rosario has started playing after recuperating from the broken thumb. 0-4 in first game.

Sanny and Vargas both hit under .200, Arraez .335 in 45 games

Polanco around .250, Paulsen one of the scrub pickups, an awesome .042 (1-24)

DRod, Pudge's kid,has a .185 BAA and ERA under 1 in the Puerto Rican League
Time to advance him up. He's running outta time

Wow. That sure is some inspiring news. I guess it keeps in line with Matt's goal of having this team continue to "bottom out" for another two seasons before they get better.

Then you'll love this

The Twins have signed corner infielder Matt Hague to a minor league deal, MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger tweets. They also re-signed 1B/OF Reynaldo Rodriguez to a minor league deal. The 31-year-old Hague had a strong season with Triple-A Buffalo in the Blue Jays system in 2015, batting .338/.416/.468, and he’s generally hit well at the Triple-A level.
In 2016, though, he struggled with Hanshin in Japan, batting .231/.339/.346 in 124 plate appearances. He’s collected a total of 91 career big-league plate appearances with the Jays and Pirates.

The 29-year-old Rodriguez batted .220/.304/.329 for Triple-A Rochester in 2016, also serving an 80-game PED suspension. He has over 1,500 career plate appearances at Double-A and has established himself as a good hitter at that level, but his bat has never fully made the leap to Triple-A, and he’s never played in the Majors.

Here is some news from the general talk thread. This should make your Christmas especially merry this season.

"Jeff Smith named 1st base coach. Jeff Pickler is Coordinator of Major League Development."
