Got me thinking about our pitching prospects. I think one of the best ways to get a true evaluation of a prospect is "tradeability". ie considering all factors, like age, upside, stats, likelihood of success, etc. Would you trade Prospect A for Prospect B? Of our A+ and above minor league pitchers, how do you guys rank them in that light? I think it's a little important, because there's a high likelihood we are going to trade at least a couple of these guys over the next year or so. I'll go ahead and start. For me, it's: Romero: I just think his 100mph upside and stuff is too great. Almost untradeable to me for anything less than a true ace. Gonsalves. I don't love his upside, but it seems like a good bet based on his track record that he'll be a "solid" major league starter. A 3-4 probably. Thorpe: Lots of risk here, but also tons of upside, and a lefty. DRod: Lots of risk here too, late bloomer, but nice transition and good stuff. Stewart: Good pedigree, has disappointed, but has done solid. Jorge: Still a chance to be a good starter, but more in the "eh" longterm category to me. Only 23, but I tend to think his best role may be as a reliever longterm.
