With 30 teams in the league. Each one should have at least 3, statistically speaking. Ours are at/or below the bottom of each group of 30.

Nothing to write home about.

We need one my man. One after another, our best pitching prospects either bust, undergo surgery, wind up in the bullpen or get traded. Balazovic was supposed to be the crown jewel of our pitching prospects and just seems to have lost it.

twinsfan -> RE: Players and prospects III (9/28/2022 12:02:35 PM)

Which players are the Twins sending to the Arizona Fall League?

David Levine -> RE: Players and prospects III (3/15/2023 5:18:14 PM)

On-base machine Edouard Julien could walk his way right into the Twins’ plans

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Edouard Julien might be the most underrated prospect in the Twins farm system. He’s definitely the most fascinating one.

Born in Quebec, the French-Canadian spoke little English when he moved to Alabama at 19 to play for Auburn. Picked in the 18th round of the 2019 draft following a good but not great college career, Julien injured his elbow a month later while playing for Canada in the Pan Am Games and needed Tommy John surgery. And then COVID-19 wiped away the 2020 minor-league season.

Julien finally made his professional debut in 2021, nearly two years after being drafted. It was worth the wait when he hit .267/.434/.480 with 18 homers, 34 steals and an eye-catching 110 walks in 112 games between Low-A Fort Myers and High-A Cedar Rapids, becoming the first Twins prospect with 100 walks in a season since Bobby Kielty two decades earlier.

He moved up to Double A last season, putting his extreme plate discipline to the test against more polished pitchers, and passed with flying colors. Julien hit .300/.441/.490 with 17 homers and 19 steals in 113 games, finishing two walks short of back-to-back 100-walk campaigns. And then he went to the Arizona Fall League and hit .400/.563/.680 to lead the prospect showcase in OPS.

-----------

“My god, the kid can hit, man,” Carlos Correa said.

Any scouting report on Julien must start with plate discipline. He led all minor leaguers in walks (208) and on-base percentage (.437) the past two seasons, and that doesn’t even include his AFL-best 23 walks and .563 on-base percentage in 21 games. Julien has walked in 20.4 percent of his pro plate appearances, higher than the career walk rate of every hitter in MLB history except Ted Williams.

Julien’s first Double-A month was mediocre, but he then posted an OBP above .400 in each of the season’s final five months, hitting a combined .310/.454/.511 with 17 homers, 16 steals and 95 walks in 105 games after May 1. Including his AFL stint, Julien hit .384 with a .616 slugging percentage in his final 40 games of 2022, reaching base at a Bondsian .538 clip.

“He’s been better than a good hitter,” manager Rocco Baldelli said. “He’s been a guy that’s already made a name for himself. He swings the bat at a level better than most guys you’re going to find, even top prospects. Your bat can carry you in this game, and I like guys that can hit.”

David Levine -> RE: Players and prospects III (3/15/2023 5:18:34 PM)

Aaron Gleeman@AaronGleeman

Edouard Julien just homered again for Canada in the World Baseball Classic.

He's now hitting .533 with a .650 on-base percentage and 1.133 slugging percentage in the WBC.

Just a casual 1.783 OPS for the Twins' most underrated prospect.

Mister Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (4/1/2023 8:48:06 AM)

Saints lost opener 7-4

Julien and Garlick had solo homers

Ober went 3 only, 2 earned runs 4 K

De Leon and Lawyerson each gave up 2 runs

Not a lot of likable players on this roster. The normal of has beens and never were's and a couple of actual prospects

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/19/2023 8:09:23 AM)

With the MLB draft coming up in early July, I looked at some evaluations and mocks.

The good news for the Twins is that they jumped all the way up to the 5th pick in the lottery. The alleged draft experts say that there is a clear cut upper tier of 5 players and the lottery put the Twins in that tier. The mocks are weird this year in that they all have the exact same players in the exact same order for picks 1-5.

1. Pirates (are they ever not picking first) - OF Dylan Crews, LSU

2. Nationals - RHP Paul Skenes, LSU

3. Tigers - OF Wyatt Langford, Florida

4. Rangers - OF Walker Jenkins, South Brunswick HS (North Carolina)

5. Twins - OF Max Clark, Franklin HS (Indiana)

The bad news for the Twins of course is that Sean Johnson and the same scouting staff from the last several years will be making the picks again this year. We can always hope for the blind squirrel finding a nut scenario, but I doubt it. This bunch could f*ck up a 1 car parade.

twinsfan -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/5/2023 11:21:52 AM)

Twins minors notes:

St paul: wallner/larnach still crushing. As are celestino and chris williams. Martin hopefully settling in. Interestingly, hes been playing 2b so far (i suppose celestino blocking cf). Henriquez is back: guessing he'll be next man up in the pen

Wichita: lee still "solid" not spectacular so far, soularie continues to rake, will be interesting to see Festa in the futures game this weekend. They moved raya up here too not but he's still not going more than 3 innings or so. Theyre either being super careful with him or secretly grooming him for a late-season pen role. Rosario has hit well

Cedar Rapids: EmmRod settling in (hes 20). Hopefully he can ease the pain from losing Encarnacion-Strand. Miller and Salas are both also only 20 but are really struggling. Culpepper (the new Joe Ryan/"water polo" project) is killing it so far and got moved up here. 21. Ditto Cory Lewis. 22. (13th/9th rd picks last yr)

Other; Acuna's little brother hasnt shown a whole lot in rookie ball yet but its VERY early. disappointed in Connor Prielipp. Has been shut down twice after rehab starts. Hopefully cleaning things up post-TJ, etc. but had high hopes he'd be lighting up the minors this yr in his return. He was the "#1 pick talent" that fell to us in comp rd last yr.

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/5/2023 4:21:47 PM)

Martin playing 2B could be a case of the throw being easier on his reconstructed elbow for now.

We really need Celestino to make the next step. Michael Taylor is simply not a long term option in CF. Can't live with that mid .600 OPS in the every day lineup.

Mister Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/5/2023 6:22:05 PM)

Rosario is playing at Cedar Rapids. Yunior Severino has like 35 homers over the past 2 seasons. Hitting well in Wichita.
Funny how Miranda had picked it up and was "hitting well" at StP before callup and now can't hit or field. Again

Mister Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/5/2023 6:24:20 PM)

Prielipp was damaged goods, a Twins special

Lewis throws a knuckleball. That's intriguing in itself.
