Zimm is out of excuses next season.

Does the new Special Teams coach get to draft his own kicker and punter?

Burning through OC's is not a good sign.

I think we're seeing a HC delegating failure to justify his job.

Was no excuses left for this guy.. At least a couple years late.

We are entering the Mike McCarthy circa summer 2018 (HC on the hot seat territory) when said HC fires multiple assistants to keep his own job.

Personally don’t think Zimmer is there yet, but it sure appears that way.

Good firing nonetheless.

We offered Priefer a contract extension. He passed.

Lets not make this a brilliant move by Viking brass.

Holy shit he left on his own accord in a lateral move to stay a special teams coach? Weird. I’ll take it - but weird.

Huh. Where's the loyalty man? We're trying to build something special here and he just leaves? Kinda hurts. Said no one ever! Eat shit Priefer!

Quitters get rewarded. Turner taught us that, right? Saban and Meyer have no comment.

Speaking of Turner, anybody surprised that Scott keeps getting jobs following his daddy?

Yeah, happy got rid of the @sshole special teams coach day - addition by subtraction.

The chances of an important game winning FG being made just went up.

Keep Bates, or sign Forbath.

Yes, the Vikings wanted to make the mistake of keeping Priefer, but just like a team that is going to make a mistake by drafting a dud, and the team before you takes him, then you luck into a much better pick.

I am VERY happy

Losing MP in a vacuum is a win but given everything that's happened under Zimmer this does reek of bigger problems. IMO, Zimmer (and possibly Spielman) is gone after this year. The fact that he left for a lateral, to Cleveland to boot, is not a good sign for the org.

Agree

Maybe Preifer just wanted a fresh start or go back to his native Ohio.

Or, could very well be an indictment on the dysfunction of Zim and Mgmnt.

I see it but choose vacuum.

It actually does take away the way it went down. We were ready to keep going and HE was like nah.

I do disagree with the 'to Cleveland to boot' part. I would want to be part of that and the potential rising.

Zimmer is on a one year contract.....Cleveland coach isn't. I was more worried about getting an OC than Priefer leaving.

I think people are reading way too much into this.

He sucked, they didn't offer him another contract because he sucked.

Kickers came here and became limp noodles.

Good Riddance.

Thought we had some reputable quotes saying "we did" offer him a contract.

We did. Zimmer wanted to keep him.

Shortly after it was reported that Priefer would not be returning to Minnesota, the announcement came down that he was accepting the same job with the Cleveland Browns. The Vikings did offer him a contract, and he reportedly had interest from several other teams, but he made the decision to move on.

It’s not entirely surprising to see Priefer make this move. He’s an Ohio native, and grew up cheering for the Browns. His father was a long-time coach in Parma, Ohio, which is just west of Cleveland, and also worked as a coach at Miami of Ohio.

So Priefer saved the Vikings from themselves.
