Report: Gareon Conley accused of sexual assault in Cleveland

Posted by Mike Florio on April 25, 2017, 1:41 PM EDT

The unnamed player facing an accusation of sexual assault in Cleveland has been named. According to TMZ, the first-round prospect is Ohio State cornerback Gareon Conley.

Conley strongly denies the accusations.

Per TMZ, a police report explains that a 23-year-old woman said Conley raped her in the bathroom of a suite at the Westin Hotel in Cleveland. The police report reportedly explains that the alleged victim claims she met Conley in an elevator, and that he asked her to have a “foursome.” The alleged victim claims she declined to participate but agreed to watch as others had group sex.

In the initial report regarding the incident, which didn’t name Conley, lawyer Kevin Spellacy called the accusation “ludicrous and ridiculous,” and argued that “this young lady is an opportunist and it’s actually despicable.”

According to TMZ, two of Conley’s friends told police nothing happened between him and the woman.

Conley supposedly is willing to be interviewed after the draft. If, however, he’s not cleared by police before the draft, his stock could plummet. At least one team that was considering taking Conley in the first round has told PFT that, if this cloud remains as of Thursday night, the team won’t be able to select him.

Foster should still be Top 20.

Mixon late 1st thru 2nd round

Brantley: Here's a guy you draft in the 6th or 7th round. If he's guilty, you cut him.

Conley: If he is there at #48, tough call. Probably not. I would rather grab Sidney Jones in 3rd if he slips that far.

If he is innocent, then this woman is really the scum of the earth. It makes me think that if I am in the limelight like this that I need to be accompanied by someone that I trust whenever in the public.

Or not invite strangers for group sex.

Who do you folks think is the one player that will fall in the draft this year? Just curious.

I'll go OJ Howard

TJ Watt

He is the 45th rated player in the draft according to grades (NFL.com). He has been as high as 21 in mock drafts a month ago. He is now falling back down. My first mock (not posted just nerd notes, I was speculating that he might be sitting at 48 for the Vikings. I am starting to think that again.

One more is Caleb Brantley. DT 24th best grade. Showing up in mocks going to Baltimore, one pick in front of us in the 3rd round.

too funny I edited my other post at first instead of quoting. Oh well it is back to what I had.

Ok I think I am going to win this mini contest. OJ Howard possibly going 4th to Jax he will not get past New York Giants. Brantley could go undrafted or maybe we take the 7th round flyer on him. TJ Watt is in and out of first round depending on the mock draft.

Agreed on all Mark.

I'll be surprised if Foster falls further than top 12, dude is a wrecking ball.

I'm ok with the Vikings taking one or more of the players who are expected to fall as long as the team researches enough and draws the conclusion they are one-off incidents.

I'm a fan and not the owner of the Vikings All-Choir team. Get talent. Win.

2nd - OG
3rd - Mixon
3rd - Foster
4th - Conley
4th - Brantley

Raffle off the 5th, 6th, 7th round picks.

Indeed. One is more recent is the only difference.

Not sure when Mixon will come off the board. my guess is rd 3.

I'm not keen on Peppers. Although supposedly Zimmer said they may replace Greenway with a hybrid. If that is only even partly true (i.e. the hybrid just some of the time) then Peppers has to be considered. May be the top candidate.

Should be next year. And I don't think the round/slot, if any, has yet been determined:

As the NFL explains, compensatory picks are awarded to teams that lose more or better compensatory free agents than they acquire. The number of picks a team can receive equals the net loss of compensatory free agents, up to a maximum of four. Compensatory free agents are determined by a secret formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. Not every free agent lost or signed is covered by the formula.

Although the formula has never been revealed, by studying the compensatory picks that have been awarded since they began in 1994, I’ve determined that the primary factor in the value of the picks awarded is the average annual value of the contract the player signed with his new team, with an adjustment for playing time and a smaller adjustment for postseason honors.

I think the article must have it wrong. Be a 2018 6th rd pick.

One would think losing a HOFer would net a 3rd

Not for $3m or whatever it is.

Strangely (for your line of thinking) losing MATT KALIL could net a 3rd, but that's more than offset with the Reiff and Remmers signings.

I have a huge problem with the stupidity of kids that get busted for pot at the combine...

I have no problem with the pot smoking...

it shouldn't even be a violation...but it is and this is their biggest job interview ever and they can't just stay clean for a month?

Too worried about them never playing to pick them...they are not going to stop smoking pot.

The punch a girl in the face problem is so much worse an offense, but that is not part of a chronic lifestyle problem...

now maybe Mixon or Brantley might go on to have further domestic violence issues...

but that isn't a pattern in their lives which means they are not likely to be suspended...

(well, it isn't clear how the Brantley issue will play out with potential suspension because of how recently it happened)

So I would not take Mixon off my board, but I would hesitate to take Peppers or Foster before the first 3 rounds at least...

So really you only care about the players eligibility, not their morality?

bottom line when drafting, eligibility trumps morality

Just saying Mixon in particular doesn't exhibit a pattern of behavior...

pot smokers who can't abstain for a month or not gonna stop, in my experience...

I can forgive the one time horrible judgement

but I can't risk losing a high pick to someone already in the program...

just too many Randy Gregory's out there

To say Mixon had a "one time horrible judgement" is incredibly generous.

The fact he had the parking attendant incident just a year ago tells you he still has a real anger management issue and/or serious woman issues.

Was the parking attendant a woman?

Its interesting. Everything out there seems to go out of its way to avoid any gender specific pronouns when talking about the case.

Although at the end of this video, the reporter refers to the attendant as "him":

http://kfor.com/2016/11/04/documents-detail-altercation-between-ous-joe-mixon-and-parking-attendant/

I've always understood it was a woman. This report refers to her as "she".

Nope. Its not a "Career Reward". I believe its based more on age, value of new contract signed and previous years performance.

A 6th is likely the best we'd get for him based on all that.

I think because of his age a 6th is the max we could get regardless of his contract.

This was reported before FA even began.
