ORIGINAL: djskillz Magic, and it wasn't close. He's the GOAT IMO. Kareem #2. If I'm starting a franchise, I'm starting it with Magic. Did this exercise with a friend recently where we could each "draft" a 5. If one takes Jordan, the other can still get Kobe. Kareem: Hakeem/Russell/Wilt, etc. But the dropoff from Magic to the next best PG (Chris Paul? Thomas? Oscar?) is larger IMO. He made his teammates better better than any other player in history to me. Hate to agree with the Laker fan but I liked them in Magic's day. Magic is the GOAT IMO. However, LeBron is very close to supplanting him. Is KJ Kareem Abdul-Jabbar? I used to love me some Kevin Johnson. One of the most fun to watch players ever IMO. I've gone over this before, but I'll never "love" the Kobe/Shaq Lakers. The Showtime Lakers will always be my first/greatest basketball love, followed by the Eddie Jones/Ceballos/NicktheQuick Lakers actually. I'm just fiercely loyal, the Lakers were originally from MN, I went to a lot of games while I lived in LA, and that was my team when I started watching basketball. So I'm stuck with them for life. The Wolves will just have to always settle for being my "#2". If they came around 10 years earlier, I'd absolutely be a Wolves fan first. I too loved the Van Exel, Vlade, Ceballos Lakers. Didn't care about Eddie Jones. Eddie was my favorite on those squads. So smart, so smooth, always did the right thing. NicktheQuick was 2nd for me on those teams. I've often wondered how different Divac's career could have been if Magic didn't have to retire early (thanks, Karl Malone; asshole). Magic was GREAT for his development in the early going.
