Spent my whole life watching my Dad piss off his buddies when these topics came up.
The human has gotten bigger faster stronger and more athletic each generation.
George Mikan wouldn't make a current HS JV team.
Its not a knock on the old players, they were wonderful for their times.
The times. they changed, and the game changed with it.
If those great players were born now, they'd become great players in this generation probably.
But those teams were smaller and slower and weaker. IMO.

This makes Wilt more of a freak than he was credited with in real time.

Wilt was not only a giant, but he was strong, quick, nimble, coordinated. I don't think he would have trouble in any generation.

Yep. LA was pretty clearly the better team most of those years. The best ever IMO. But I'd put those Celtics teams 2nd all time. I think both would destroy the 90's Bulls.

That was great basketball and Lakers got the best of them. The Captain, Magic, Big Game James....

Michael Cooper: Unsung hero of those teams

I was a big Scott fan (player, not coach). He was almost the perfect complementary player on some of those teams.

Absolute master at using screens, even when they weren't actually set. Ran hard, used the bodies then squared up, elevated and released as quick and smoothly as anybody.

Yep. He was at his best going into the 2nd DET Finals. Hurt his hamstring in practice before Finals and was never the same. Thanks David Rivers.

As long as you didn't need him to make a shot at the end of a game to tie or take the lead. I guess that's what those other guys were for.
