ORIGINAL: Mr. Ed
The only reason I say that on depth, is because 1-5, when Erv is back, is deeper than the 2000s Twins, the 91 twins, and the 87 twins.
Those teams always had questions. If Kyle Gibson is your ? mark at the 5 starter vs the 3 starter, in much better shape to start the season.
FINALLY some front office people who are at least half-way getting it.
I still find it amazing that we won it all in 87 with a pitching staff of Viola, Blyleven, and oh shit now what.
In 91 it was Morris, Tapani, Erickson and well crap.
Yet we managed to win it all both years.
And depth wise this rotation is better though it lacks an ace.
Even the bullpen back then was iffy other than the closer. Having 2 CY Young candidates on the staff (Morris, Erickson 1st half) and an MVP candidate in the OF (Puckett) fixes a lot of warts.
87 Team was a real good hitting team, 91 was more smoke and mirrors but they had enough hitting.
87:Bert 267 Innings, Viola 251 Innings, Juan 100 Innings, Reardon 80 innings.....
91: Jack 246 Innings, Tapani 244 Innings, Erickson 204 Innings, Guthrie 98 Innings, Willis 89 Innings....Leach, Augilera, and Bedrosian Between 69-77 innings
