Minnesota Wild

Last season's points total: 101

Three-season points average: 98.0

They can hit 100 points this season if: Bruce Boudreau is still the coach, and that appears to be the case, even after general managers Chuck Fletcher paid for the Wild's three straight first-round playoff exists with his job. Look, say what you will about Boudreau's lack of postseason success, inability to win a Game 7 and the rest of his foibles: If he's your coach, you're going to be on a 100-point pace with a points share of .616 or higher and you're making the playoffs. Unless it's a season in which you're firing him, as the 2011-12 campaign was the only outlier.

Will they hit 100 points this season? In Bruce we trust. Although we don't necessarily trust that new GM Paul Fenton doesn't want his own guy in there by midseason.

I'm sure that's just wild speculation but if Fenton, after the lackluster FA period, dumps BB at mid season I may be out. That would be insane.

I look at Fenton's off season and wonder what was the point in replacing Fletch?

No point, zero difference, imo.

In fact, Fenton may be more complacent than Fletch would have been at this point.

Fletch would have known his time was getting very short to make improvements that, you know, actually worked.

Even though Russo and other beat writers didn't say as much---maybe Fletch wanted to blow things up?

Russo tweeted out a couple days ago:

During the draft there was a deal on the table of Nino, Zucker, and Ennis for Domi and Devorak but Arizona nixed it after almost pulling the trigger.

Interesting names on there
Boeser goes everywhere, gets zero attention going in, and leaves knocking em all dead
Same for Brock Nelson. he got half the attention most Warroad kids get, and he, in the end, will have a better career than damn-near every one of them. Quietly.
Good to see Helgeson still kickin the can around
And everyone knows Stalocks my guy. Good on him

Love offseason articles to keep me going about the team but the 2 in today's Strib are depressing.

1. Greenway is still trying to gain confidence he belongs at this level. Not a good sign. He sounds like Coyle part deux. Huge dude who should just dominate but doesn't. If he doesn't have that cocky attitude that he can't be stopped by now, I doubt it's coming any time soon. My best guess is that he has games where he looks like a future all time great and then disappears for long stretches.

2. Fenton was supposed to make a big splash in the offseason but didn't because he wants to see how the team operates before hand. We should have recorded the games the past 2 years so he would have had a really good head start....

Granted, number 2 wasn't a direct quote from him but if that's true we are in trouble.

I think the biggest reason he didn't make splash move is because all the other teams were low balling him big time. Everybody knows where we stand and were all trying to take advantage of our bad situation. These next 2-3 years will be Fletcher's legacy to the team. Until all of his bad contracts come off the books and we can operate like a real team we are screwed.

Sobering because it's true. It really sucks but I would expect the bigger names (mainly Suter) would demand a trade at this point so he could chase a cup. He won't though.

I quite honestly think both Suter and Parise have accomplished everything they care to in hockey and a Cup run would just be icing on the cake. Our whole team seems like that as well.....just don't see the drive to win it all that you see out of the Pens and last seasons Caps. Much like Suter's game, no sense of urgency, just cruising in autopilot a large portion of time.

Good posts guys
Agree
Too many guys on cruise control
They TALK wanting to win the Cup, but they don't WALK wanting to win the Cup.

Safe to say that these are not players who die a little inside when they lose.
