Maybe I'm too old, but I define "long" as 7 or more.

I mean that in every way possible.

Me and this other guy were standing on a bridge over a river whizzing over the edge. The other guy says "Hey, this water is cold". I says, "Yeah, deep too".

“ and the river bed is full of rocks...”

And the molten core sure is hot....

Colts had a defensive return for 2 on a blocked extra point nullified by an illegal block in the back

Come on, man! How often do we get to see 2 points scored on a try!?

Man, Vrabel's D is just destroying Brady. I hope Zim is taking notes, though it is a big difference being in NE.

Bears are getting their own Dan Carlson experience today. Man, I hope the Leos can make them pay but not optimistic. I hope he repeats this next week.

Not that there was a question but MRI confirmed that Dez Bryant tore his Achilles, per source. An expected 8-month recovery.

He's done. I mean he was almost done before the achilles.

Tom Pelissero@TomPelissero
As promised, Mark Ingram, Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas all #ThrowUpTheX after touchdowns today. Pretty remarkable tribute to Dez Bryant, who practiced with the #Saints for all of 2 days before tearing his Achilles.

If the Vikings win next week, look for the Week 13 matchup to be flexed to SNF. We would play on Sunday night three weeks in a row.

Update: Eh, on second look, that's Fox's game of the week. I'm sure per the NFL's flex schedule policy, it's a game Fox protected. Chargers @ Steelers will get flexed to SNF.

Based on the the current Rams performance, and our performance vs the Saints (lost essentially on 2 unusual turnovers) I feel that we can go on the road to either team and win

Don't forget we were missing 5 defensive starters against NO. That game was lost on offense, not defense. And we had to travel on a short week to LA and Kupp is now out.

I like our chances, especially if we can somehow steal a bye. Health is paramount for this team, though I'd send Sendejo and Barr packing after the season. First things first, beat the Bears and Packers and go a long way toward locking up the division.

Maybe win at the Rams, Saints in their house would probably be too much this year.

Fans of the Minnesota Vikings have known that safety Harrison Smith has been the best at his position in the National Football League for quite a while. Now, he’s officially gotten a bit of recognition for it.

Smith was recently voted the best safety in the National Football League by a panel of Associated Press reporters, and he won their voting by a pretty healthy amount. Of the ten ballots that were cast, Smith garnered eight first place votes. He also got one second place vote and one third place vote. That gave him 97 out of a possible 100 points, easily putting him ahead of New York Giants’ safety Landon Collins.

The AP panel had high praise for Smith.

“Not only is Smith the clear leader at this position, particularly with his skills in coverage,” said New York-based writer Barry Wilner, “but he’s probably Minnesota’s most valuable defensive player.”

”Smith is an elite pass defender who can bat away a throw or pick off a pass on one play, then sack the QB on the next,” Washington-based Howard Fendrich said....the daily norseman

He’s a wiley hard nosed player that ranks with the best, in spite of his man coverage skills.

I'm at a place (thanks to the poor start) not expecting anything. Sure would be nice to be that team that gets stronger, better all the way to the end. Happens almost every year; why not us?

I am about the same. I'd perk up if we beat the Bears. We can beat the Packers the following week, but I don't feel good about the Bears game. Now that it is moved to a night game, I feel even less good about it. I have visions of a crappy field, Trubinsky throwing on the run, us having a bye-week hangover, Zimmer outfoxing himself and just a general collapse because it is an important game.

I will watch with hope, but if someone gave me $20 to bet on the Vikings, I'd spend it on moon pies and candy whistles instead.

It will be a good test. These are the types of games they need to win to be winners, that's for sure.

Agreed. Bears are playing the same cupcakes we have and have won easily.

We haven't beaten a team with a winning record, so beating the Bears at home would be significant. Then again, the Bears have not beaten a team with a winning record so maybe the whole thing is a bunch of contrived hoopla.

After adding Ameer Abdullah to the roster, the Vikings once again have the league's smallest amount of available cap space; they're down to $279,637.

Let's hope that they remain healthy going forward. Financially, it looks like that they need to.

Finances won't dictate the "need" for health. Besides, a few weeks ago we had less than $279K in cap space (I think it was about 32 cents). Brzez is actually making cap room out of thin air. Cap Guy of The Year!

Early forecasts for Sunday night's #Vikings-Bears game in Chicago call for temperatures around 30 degrees and clear, not bad for this time of the year.

Luke Inman@Luke_Spinman
Under Zimmer the #Vikings are 2-2 @ Soldier. Each respective win needed some comeback dramatics from Teddy Bridgewater and Case Keenum.

Luke Inman@Luke_Spinman
From 2001 through 2014 the Vikings went 1-13 @ Soldier Field... Lone win came in 2007 when Vikings needed all 361 All Purpose YDs (224 rushing, 9 receiving, 128 KO) and 3TDs by a rookie RB named Adrian Peterson to squeak out a road victory in OT 34-31 (R.Longwell GW FG).

8. Minnesota Vikings (5-3-1)

Week 10 ranking: 8

Defining stat: 25.7. The Vikings aren't far off from reaching the all-time mark for defensive efficiency on third down (25.2) that they set last season. Minnesota's defense ranks No. 1 in third-down stops (just 26 of a total 101 allowed), a testament to the effectiveness of a pass rush that has generated 31 sacks, which is tied with three other teams for first in the NFL. Nine of those sacks came on third down. -- Courtney Cronin
