Sounds like Chris Finch is the front-runner for the Wolves coaching job. I don't know anything about him.

Finch would be an outstanding hire. He's basically been the "offensive coordinator" at his last 2 stops.

He had significant impact in Jokic's development as well as Denver's offensive system. Then he went to NOH helped Boogie absolutely explode before his injury and then played a role in Davis going absolutely nuclear after Cousins went down.

He's a big proponent of corner 3s and running offense through talented bigs.

Was also an assistant in Houston from 2011-16, while Rosas was there.

If the Wolves get the #1 pick, they will have a dilemma because I can't see Zion playing with KAT. We'd have to think about taking Ja Morant.

What? No. They'd be fantastic together. And even setting aside who'd play well with who, when you have the number one pick and there is a choice who's clearly head and shoulders above everyone else, you take him. Worry about lineups later.

I agree 100% no reservations. What's our chance at #1 like 3%.

Sounds good to me. I am off to google him.

From Wiki on Finch's coaching career. Extensive Euro experience. Seems like he took a lateral move from the Nuggets to Pelicans after less than a year.

Coaching career[edit]

Sheffield Sharks[edit]

Finch started his head coaching career in England, with the Sheffield Sharks of the British Basketball League, the same team that he played on during his pro playing career. He led them to several titles during his tenure, making the franchise the most successful in league history. After winning the regular season title with Sheffield in the 1998–99 season, he was named the BBL Coach of the Year.[1]

Gießen 46ers[edit]

He then moved to Germany for a fresh challenge, where he was the head coach of the Gießen 46ers, in the German Basketball Bundesliga. The team had a horrible year, and Finch was fired, after having a record of 4-13, with the team being on the verge of relegation.

Euphony Bree[edit]

After his unsuccessful time in Germany, Finch moved to Belgium, where he was the head coach of Euphony Bree. He led Bree to their first and only Belgian Basketball League championship in 2005.[6]

Dexia Mons-Hainaut[edit]

In 2007, Finch moved to Bree's Belgian Basketball League rivals, Dexia Mons-Hainaut, bringing several players with him. With Finch in charge, Dexia Mons-Hainaut reached the final of the EuroChallenge 2007-08, where they lost to BK Barons Riga by a single point.[7]

Rio Grande Valley Vipers[edit]

In 2009, Finch became the head coach of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, of the NBA D-League. Under Finch, the Vipers went 34–16, finishing in first place in the Western Conference, and earned the franchise's first playoff berth. In the playoffs, the Vipers beat both Reno and Austin in 3 games, and swept Tulsa in the Finals to earn the franchise's first championship. Finch was named the D-League Coach of Year.[8]

Houston Rockets[edit]

Finch was hired as an Assistant Coach for the Houston Rockets in 2011. Finch is well regarded[by whom?] in the NBA as one of the top offensive-minded coaches. Finch was named Associate Head Coach in 2014.

Denver Nuggets[edit]

Finch was officially hired by the Denver Nuggets August 8, 2016 as the Associate Head Coach alongside Mike Malone.

New Orleans Pelicans[edit]

Finch was officially hired by the New Orleans Pelicans on June 8, 2017 as the associate head coach alongside Alvin Gentry.[9] .

My hope is now that the process is open to other candidates, Ryan will quickly fall by the wayside. Rosas appears to be free to hire whoever he wants and I am sure he is going to want to find someone who will coach the team in line with his philosophy and above all is going to make him look good for hiring that person.

Rosas appears to be very well qualified and is being thorough in this HC search.

I'm kind of proud of Grampa Glen

Was thinking Finch must have been born overseas but turns out he's from Ohio.

Well traveled individual

I had this good vibe going and you had to ruin it.

One more name to add to the list of those being interviewed during the Timberwolves head coaching search: Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham, league sources tell @TheAthleticMIN

---------------

Another good name. He's the Bucks lead assistant and has coached under Bud since 2013.

I like the Buck's system. I think Kat could thrive in the Giannis role

Randball says the Wolves would actually be worse off moving up in the draft because of salary cap problems.

I love the Bucks system, but I don't see the KAT/Giannis comparison. Giannis is still not a shooter and he takes like 75% of his shots inside of 10 feet. And he's much more of a primary ballhandler than KAT will ever be.

Bud's previous two lead assistants before Ham was promoted were Kenny Atkinson and Quin Snyder.

That's a nice precedent.

That's really dumb.

Sure, financially things would be a little tighter, but you always take talent first and figure out the money later.

I think the odds have to be REALLY against Ryan at this point.

Finch, Ham and Vanterpool all have much better resumes. I don't see how Ryan can compete with any of them.

Finch also has history with Rosas at Houston. I'm sure Ryan will have a role somewhere, but I think Rosas knows he isn't ready to be a head coach.

It has always been my contention that Saunders does not have the credentials to be a head coach in the NBA. I could see a small college hiring somebody with his resume.
The difference between his credentials and Finch's are like night and day. That's the guy I want. Ryan can be an assistant or he can go elsewhere. If Rosas hires or extends Saunders I will be extremely disappointed.

IIRC Darvin Ham was a monster dunking machine when he was a player.

This such a weird feelings. Both the POBO and HC searches have been the very antithesis of the Wolves history. Interviewing a bunch of qualified, forward thinking candidates from good staffs - and not a retread in the bunch.
