Status: offline 		Play action won't work if the running game is ineffective. Our outside zone scheme will be tough to stop if we do it well, though. I can just picture teams hesitating because they are not sure what we are doing. Even a split second can make a difference.

Status: offline 		It strikes me that this is a vital time of the season for good coaching. They are doing a lot of "teaching" of the players. They must be doing a lot of soul searching while watching film asking themselves how schematically, or formation-wise. can they make things tougher for opponents. Football is a lot more complicated than the "Purple People Eater" days.

Status: offline 		This interesting to me. He may become a tight end defending specialist. I think it may work. I think he would matchup well with the athletic tight ends.

it is interesting how a modern-day tight end is a mismatch for most defenses - too big for db's, and too fast for most lb's...kearse has the size and the speed...now, does he have the instincts?....

Status: offline 		Ironic since the defense improved over the course of the year while Cousins production decreased.

Yes, that seems odd.

But if on some days Kirk is getting garbage points and yards when starting out slow, and the defense is a sieve,

.... and then starting out slow and getting very few points in games where the defense played well, then it all makes sense.

And if he lights it up early at home against a weak defense, like Miami, then the defense still plays well, and you get a lopsided win.

If Kirk can step it up early against good teams, the Vikings will do better than 8-7-1.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that the Vikings, in all likelihood, aren’t going to address the Rudolph situation “anytime soon.”

Rapoport reiterates that Rudolph has a deal on the table, as has been widely reported, and says that there are numerous teams interested in trading for Rudolph. However, he cites the team’s selection of Irv Smith Jr. in the second round of this year’s draft in talking about why it’s unlikely we see anything happen anytime soon. Apparently, Rapoport seems to think that the Vikings want to see how far behind Rudolph. . .if at all. . .Smith is when the team gets to camp before doing anything major with Rudolph.

Status: offline 		I decided to use Google today to find interesting articles. This article brought up points that I wouldn't have thought of. It's obvious that the players are bigger and faster. The equipment is better and they pass a lot more from much more complicated formations.

Playing conditions have improved greatly since 1966, when there were a lot of grass fields that wore thin late in the season and no domed stadiums (the AFL’s Houston Oilers didn’t move into the Astrodome until 1968). What first-generation artificial turf fields existed tended to be more like hard doormats than natural grass fields.


I played in the U of M marching band in 1973 and we performed in a Vikings vs. Chicago game in December, if my memory serves me right. It was extremely cold that day- maybe even below zero. The field condition was atrocious. (Lumpy with turf tore up from metal cleats, but rock hard) I had to watch just a little bit extra as to where I was stepping. We did fine. There were no missteps that I noticed, but it was very different than playing on the artificial turf at Memorial Stadium. I felt sorry for the football players that they had to play football on that turf. I do remember being very excited about this rookie running back named Chuck Foreman. He was absolutely my favorite player that year.

One of the Vikings receivers was Caroll Dale. He played for the Packers for many years, but I didn't realize he was ever a Viking. One of our other RB's was Ed Marinaro and another was Brent McClanahan. Bob Berry threw a couple passes probably in mop up.

Status: offline 		Trent Williams is one of the best left tackles in football and would be a perfect scheme fit for the #Vikings. The Vikings could free up $32M in cap space over the next three years by cutting Riley Reiff now, which would be just nearly enough to make a move for Williams.

We got manhandled for the most part but you always wonder what kind of momentum an early 7-0 lead would have given the Vikings.

I found this take on the #3 WR competition on RotoWorld from Arif Hassan.



The Athletic's Arif Hasan reports Jordan Taylor has been operating as the Vikings' No. 3 receiver in spring practices.


Hassan pegs Taylor and seventh-round rookie Dillon Mitchell as the best "fits" for the job, but Taylor has been working in that spot all spring. It sounds like Laquon Treadwell may not even really be in the mix after filling the role most of 2018. Depth at wideout in Minnesota is seriously lacking. The Vikings would be in big trouble if something happened to either Adam Thielen or Stefon Diggs. Taylor is unlikely to have fantasy value should he win the No. 3 job.
