Weaker draft, but for who was available I expected and liked the pick.

I will go on record that I am still 50/50 on whether we keep him, but if we do he was the BPA and a good value. He could be this years Mitchell.

AARON BEARD | Associated Press
Jarrett Culver made himself a top-flight NBA prospect by pushing Texas Tech to within a win of its first national championship.

Culver is regarded by many as the top shooting guard in Thursday's draft, part of a rapid rise from solid freshman contributor to Associated Press All-American. He could be picked in the top five, joining Duke's Cam Reddish as lottery picks to headline off-ball guards in the draft.

Here's a look at the top prospects:

Jarrett Culver, Texas Tech

The sophomore can make a big impact at both ends on the court.

Strengths: Culver offers size (a nearly 6-foot-7 measurement with shoes at the scouting combine) and the versatility to defend multiple positions for one of the nation's toughest defensive units. After averaging 11.2 points as a freshman, Culver developed into the no-doubt first option and Big 12 player of the year while leading Texas Tech in scoring (18.5), rebounding (6.4) and assists (3.7).

Concerns: Culver must improve his outside shooting after making 49 of 161 (.304) 3-pointers in his first run in a leading role. That was down nearly 8 percentage points from his freshman year and included a 4-for-26 showing (.154) in the last five games of the team's run to the NCAA title game.

Okeke is a great pick.

He's going to be a huge steal for Orlando.

If Culver can be an alpha scorer with plus defense you will end up happy with the pick. We needed an offensive creator and it sounds like Culver is that player.
Sekou could certainly be very good down the road. IMO he needs at least one year in the G League.

If the Wolves could have traded down with Brooklyn for 17-27 we could have had NAW at 17 and who knows at 27.

KAT might have to score 40 PPG for us this year.

And RoCo absolutely has to stay healthy.

I wonder if we plan to bring Tyus back? How many non-shooters can 1 team field? Tyus, Culver, Okogie, Wiggins (basically)....

I'm really curious how we're going to balance out the roster. That's more exciting than anything.

We now have 3 very good (or potentially very good) wing defenders.

We have 1 very good shooting wing.

Oh, and we have Wigs who is none of the above.

In the last three games of the NCAA run, Culver was 13-53. Right around .250.

5 for 22 for all the marbles.

I was hoping TT would beat Virginia and knew Culver would need a big game. Bomb. Virginia's choking D or just choking?

Athletic marvel though.

Oklahoma City has traded the No. 21 pick to Memphis, league source tells ESPN. Memphis is targeting Gonzaga's Brandon Clarke with No. 21.

Vecenie is live blogging the draft. Here is his take on our pick:

No. 6: TRADE TIME: The Suns trade No. 6 to the Minnesota Timberwolves for No. 11 and Dario Saric; The Timberwolves select Jarrett Culver: So, I’m not all that excited about this deal for the Suns. Sources told The Athletic that had they stayed at No. 6, Culver was the favorite to be the pick. In my opinion, I would rather have Culver than No. 11, plus one year of Dario Saric at a $3.4 million before having to make a restricted free agency decision on him and potentially pay him into eight figures per season. We’ll see who the Suns pick and finish this out later, but I don’t think the price tag here was prohibitive for Gersson Rosas to pay, and he moved up a tier on my draft board to fill a position of need for the Timberwolves.

Culver is a wing who can excel on both ends of the floor, something that the Wolves desperately need. He’s also known as a tireless worker who consistently plays really hard, something that Wolves’ fans will appreciate. On offense, he’s a contested shot-maker and creator who isn’t an elite athlete, but does have high-level feel and makes the right decisions consistently on the floor. Don’t let the percentages scare you from distance; everyone expects him to develop into a high-level shooter from 3 and be the kind of spacing weapon that Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins need to operate in their best areas.

Defensively, Culver is skinny and needs to keep adding muscle, but he plays with effort and has tremendous hands and a tendency to disrupt the opposing team’s action due to his great hand-eye coordination. Overall, this is a terrific fit for the Wolves, and I think a perfect move by Rosas in his first draft in charge.

Nice to read that Culver is expected to become an excellent shooter from 3 despite being really crappy at it this year.

A lot of stuff on Nowell here:

https://www-1.thenewstribune.com/sports/college/pac-12/university-of-washington/article231584723.html

"I think it’s definitely the shot making," he said. "No question. It’s 100 percent the shot making. Anytime you can get a guy that was 50-40-80 (percent) as a shooter who is also the primary threat for an NCAA Tournament team like Washington was … that guy is incredibly valuable. If you can knock down shots off the dribble and off the catch, you’re a multi-faceted, versatile offensive shot maker."

"He’s like first-team all-confidence. He has no fear, goes right at players.

But this year, he gets in that lane and he’s aware that a lot of people are collapsing in and he’s looking for those kick outs to wide open guys. When he’s doing that, it’s contagious."

I thought the Wolves would draft a pure point guard, but I love Culver's defense. He's a little inconsistent as a shooter, but I like his versatility. Covington-Culver-Okogie is a nice trio to build around defensively.

(Daniel House on Twitter)

Personally I don't have a clue. I don't watch much basketball. I used to love to watch basketball. Anyway, good luck to the Wolves.

That is good.

I think the kid has a good chance to develop in to a very good NBA player.

He's appears to have a good handle and court awareness.

Culver at 6?

We drafted him at 20 last year.

That's my pick.

I don't see it. Rosas has been all about adding shooting. I don't think there is any way Okogie and Culver can play together. And Wiggins is a pretty lousy shooter too.

Stick to football, DL.
