Interesting as hell to watch the Wild on Dallas TV last night
EVERY Dubnyk apologist needed to hear what they were saying.
They NAILED him.
* makes some terrific stops
* wow he covers the net
* looks athletic even tho he's huge
Then …
* just keep throwing it at him boys, he'll let in a stinker
* all you have to do is let him handle the puck and he'll give you opps
* seriously boys …. throw it at him, he'll help you out at the worst times

Honestly, we played like we were protecting a lead in Game 7 of the Cup finals
We panicked anytime a puck started to go near Dubnyk, and that's what preserved the win.
We can be hard to play against when everyone buys in
Zuccarello is pretty damn good
Dallas misses him, they were nothing but impressed with him at the end of last year
Dumba looked really sharp, just hope he doesn't fall thru the ice after he makes his 15th straight spin circle get away. They're gonna catch on to that move, kid.
Not much offense, but we have chosen that path.
Greenway came alive last night, Foligno does that to linemates

I caught just a part of the game last night, but I really like that big line with Foligno, Greenway, and Ek. Once they got the puck down deep they were in the zone until they got tired and Dallas had no answer.

Kind of takes you back to the old Maruk, Plett and McKegny line with the North Stars. Throw the puck behind the net and then just pound them into submission.

Old Time Hockey! If you have big guys, dump and chase is a good game plan. I'm so jacked about Hockey kicking off soon!

Took in the Iowa Wild game vs The Jets on Saturday
IW currently have almost 50 guys they are trying out, so they ran two different teams Friday night and Saturday afternoon
We went Saturday
Looked like a Gopher alumni game. We dominated but couldn't score. I was shocked.
We're pretty solid but just like the big club actually. Lots of zone time, with no real results.
Fun level tho, they get after it.

Greg Pateryn had surgery for a sports hernia. He will be out for six weeks.

Opens up a spot for Soucy to show that he's ready for the show. I'd love to see him excel because we sure could use his size and muscle on the back end.

Here we go.
Starting Thursday night (against the greatest team ever assembled I guess.)
Should be an interesting couple weeks to start.
I never like the looks of our schedule, and this is no exception. Could get behind the 8 ball early if we aren't really ready to play. (gulp)
There's just so little to be really excited about.
The start of a new year is really the only things that is different.
I don't hate the acquisitions, there just isn't enough of them, or at least not enough dynamic difference-makers.
I like what Zuccarello and Hartman might bring, they have looked like they will work hard. Dallas's announcers said it the other night … there's no doubt Zuccarello is one helluva player when he's healthy. We need it.
The D seems to be stuck in perpetual "pretty solid but hangin on by a thread most nights"
The O remains and will always be the question here. A natural scorer like BB has to just tear his hair out …. wait …
The goaltending. Oh my. Take a deep breath SMF. I'm sorry I spend way too much time berating our big guy, but I'm just never going to be sold.
As Dallas kept saying … "throw it at him, throw it at him, eventually he will do something to let you win the game. His numbers will be great, his stops will be spectacular at times, and yet he will still find a way to give you the game"
Really nails it for me, and something I guess we will just be stuck with. Stalock is solid imo and could fill in at any time admirably. Won't win you a Cup either, but he's a reliable backup imo.

So it begins.
Have we improved? Not really.
Do we have enough to be relevant? We aren't really sure.
I'll go …. 40-30-12
Just because I need to at least believe for a little while, that we might be ok.

Come on BB, you're better than this! Just listened to Zucker on the radio. BB has him skating with Fiala and .... wait for it .... Mikko Koivu. Looks like the idea of limiting Mikko to 3rd line status didn't even make it out of training camp. Let's take the two fasted, arguably highest offensive potential wingers on the team and hitch them to a plow.

Surprised Rask is still on the roster
Pleased that Rau was one of the last cuts, hope he keeps plugging away
Isn't it time Kunin settles in?
Will Greenway reach some of that potential?
Glad Hunt stuck, hope he gets used correctly
Fiala Zucc and Hartman might need to play together, just to show the rest what NHL speed looks like
Sorry, but when you watch top-end NHL hockey, we don't seem to belong yet

Surprised Rask is still on the roster They really don't have any choice. Terrible contract to try to buy out. Thank youuuuuuu Fenton.

Isn't it time Kunin settles in? Looks like BB put a slow footed road block in this path.

Oh ...and the rest of my prediction ….
We will be ecstatic with our surprisingly good season, while Chicago will be PISSED about theirs.
And we will finish a couple games behind them.

I have no predictions that involve me being ecstatic.

I predict I will watch a good percentage of their games and get just as frustrated this season as I did last season.
I'm guessing we will see a stretch where they look great, along with a lot of not so good stretches just like this group always seems to.
Hopefully Guerin can get the Country Club culture turned around and everybody will buy in this season. With all the changes Fenton made the team should be on notice.......time will tell.

The Pioneer Press has an article on Koivu being the "father" of the Wild.

Here is my feeling about Koivu

You must be fortunate
I'm surrounded by red-hat-wearers who think Mn sports teams do no wrong.
"oh my, the Wild will certainly give the captaincy to others this year" I just laugh
"oh go on … the Pohlads will TOO spend tons of money on anyone we need" I laugh louder
And the topper ...
"any day now, the Super Bowl is ours!" at that point I'm rolling
