Basil was my favorite tough guy of all time, because of how much he enjoyed it.
My wife still tells the story of how I threatened her with naming our first born Basil
She was never sure until she saw the birth certificate. I always told her I was changing whatever name she gave them.
I damn-near did it too. And my son to this day wishes I had.

I was ready to strangle Louie for trading Basil.

Great dude
Could play a little too, wasn't just a goon like so many were at that time.

MOSCOW — While officials from Montreal to Moscow have placed populations under some form of lockdown designed to slow the spread of the coronavirus, one man continues to hold firm to the notion that the rest of the world has lost its mind: Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
“It is better to die on your feet than live on your knees!” Lukashenko told a Belarusian television reporter Saturday when asked whether the coronavirus could stop him from hitting the rink for a propaganda-filled hockey game.
“Me? Why? I don’t understand. There is no virus here,” Lukashenko said, gesturing around the arena. “This is a refrigerator, it is the best thing for your health. Sport, especially on ice, is better than any antiviral medication. It is the real thing.”
Lukashenko, one of the longest-serving leaders in the former Soviet Union, has been in power for over 25 years. His tenure has seen brutal crackdowns on dissent.
Full coverage of the coronavirus outbreak
Both Lukashenko and his nation, Belarus, have played second fiddle to their much larger, and much more powerful neighbor: Vladimir Putin’s Russia. The two nations have a loosely controlled internal border and shared customs space — undermining his claims to sovereignty.
Lukashenko for weeks now has downplayed the threat of COVID-19. Instead of preparing his nation for the worst, he has routinely and openly questioned the world’s response to the virus, using the word “psychosis” to describe the global response several times since early March.

Sounds like they might try to finish the Hockey season at a neutral site....Ralph Engelstad arena a consideration:

They should just let it go. Move onto the draft and free agency and get ready for next year.

Hate to say it, but I agree
My son, who would work those game in the Ralph, lives and dies for hockey, well, apparently doesn't want to die for it.
He said this morning, "so they'd be okay with bringing all that baggage, here, for us to worry about" gotta agree.
Playing them in their own empty rinks would be more responsible than that.

Thing is, all the money comes from the gate and concessions in the playoffs, so no way they play in empty arenas.
They are done for the season unfortunately.

Sports that were over half done with seasons, … you're done. Move on to next year.
Anyone who hadn't started yet, create a half-season or less schedule and we'll see if it happens.

Looks like BETTMAN! is leaning toward a 24 team playoff. Like all of his other ideas, it's stupid.

Does it hurt TV money and ads by not playing?

A post from someone who works for the Avalanche. For context, Layne Vashro was a long-times Wolves poster over at Canis and a brilliant sports analytics mind. He was hired a number of year ago by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, who own the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Rams and Arsenal Football Club. He's the Senior Sports Analyst for the Nuggets.

-----------

NHL is waiting for the NBA.

I work for the same organization that Layne left here to join (he and I tried to grab lunch a few times but it never worked out. We each work at different campuses). Anyway, I’m on the NHL side of things in the TV world. I can tell you that the return of major sports in this country is all gonna depend on what the NBA chooses to do. They will have a similar plan, but the NHL will let the NBA take the lead. It would be a terrible look if the NBA cancelled and the NHL went forward (or vice versa) because one will end of looking like they made a huge mistake either way. I’ve heard the Nuggets are working out again with heavy modifications and restrictions (1 or 2 players at a time, no weight room, and that they have to shut down the practice court for a full clean every other day etc). They are no where near full workouts or practice.

But, with the millions of dollars already lost in revenue, you can be sure they will do everything humanly possible to get back on the court/ice. The fact that Nascar and MMA have started back up is huge and that the rest of the sports world is taking note of what they are doing and what they can mimic to keep everyone involved safe. Broadcasts aren’t gonna look the same and there aren’t gonna be fans, but I’d expect things to start back up beginning of July. If I’m a betting man I’d say we get some 7-10 game end to the regular season (in hub cities). No team wants to jump right into the post season without some real games to shake off the rust, regain some chemistry and figure out how to play in empty arenas (which is a huge concern for players and coaches. They rely on the fans for energy).

No way will they do that....they have some players at the end of their legacy (Lebron, Paul, and Harden is entering his 30s)...they will have playoff basketball.

Seems ridiculous to me to even discuss it.
No one watches more end-of-season and playoff hockey than this cat, and even I have moved on.

Just my opinion here...

By doing this for the financial end, which I get, this staggers the start for 2020-2021 some. Or shortens the season by a month?

Because you start playoffs in July, done in what, end of August/early September? Training camp/season for hockey are going within the next month for the next year, and in October for the NBA.

Less downtime after the playoffs....more injuries will occur for who knows how many players.

I disagree Ed...they have had 2 months rest currently and will have another month or two at the end.

That sounds like a typical Bettman schedule when you think about it.

Only the Wild usually get forced into 72 events in 14 days by that dumbass.
Totally stupid, and agree Ed

If you crank up now, then next season HAS to be delayed, and why do that?

Yes, it bites to lose 2020. It happened. It sailed. Move on. We're all supposed to.

The only upside to a playoff for the Wild is that it assures we get this year's first round pick from Pittsburgh. This is supposed to be one of the deepest drafts in years, so it would be nice to assure that extra first rounder.

Yeah that would suck to lose that.

Yeah that would suck to lose that.

Worst case is that we would get the Penguin's 2021 pick, but I don't think the draft class for next year projects as high as the current year.

The Penguins would have the option to defer to 2021 if they don't make the playoffs. I am only assuming that if there are no playoffs, Pittsburgh would get the option.

I think that would be a very poor ruling. If they were a playoff qualifier when the season ended the pick should convey for 2020.

I don't dispute that, but we are dealing with Bettman's NHL. Bad decisions is kind of him MO.
