When it was pretty clear Diggs was not going to score, I was yelling "wrap it up" and "just lay down" at the TV, too!

The TD right before half pissed me off, too. Bad technique on our part.

Other NFL news:

Wow. CHI got spanked. At home. The Bears are who we though they were.

Don't enjoy seeing Cowpuke win, but enjoy seeing PHI lose. Badly. And I still don't think DAL is that great. Game was out of control for PHI right out of the gate.

SEA trucked at home. Good!

GB is not as good and balanced as some think. Collin Cowherd giving them a hand job on his show every day now. Barf.

It was a weird game defensively yesterday.

I didn't have a lot of problems with the Jones/Hughes TD... their guy beat ours... Hughes wins that battle a fair amount when you let him play aggressively.

But the secondary had repeated communication issues which was pretty odd.

At the start of that drive right before half I believe we had them in 3rd and long inside their 10... this was one of the FEW rushes where Hunter got instant pressure, went right around his guy... but Waynes is caught in a mixup with Mac I believe... ends up not covering Macs guy or his and it's and easy first down. Why the hell Waynes didn't cover his outside reponsibility I have no idea, very unlike him.

It looks to me like lack of inside pressure from the DLine could be our undoing... just not much push and playoff QBs will kill you with that.
If you can collapse the pocket with Hunter/Griff coming... look out.

This is why people harp on this poor defensive outing... if we could rachet up the D and get O play like the last 3 weeks... you can envision a real playoff run.

Great point, almost no interior push.

Marvin Jones Jr. 2 Yd pass from Matthew Stafford (Two-Point Pass Conversion Failed)
10 plays, 75 yards, 2:35

This one brought the score to 35-30 in the fourth quarter. Unacceptable. For all of Zimmer's positives this drive is the perfect example of Zimmer's biggest weakness. He freezes up in the biggest moments. 3rd and 17 and he rushes 3 and sits everyone else back in a prevent-style zone. It brought back memories of the Saints 3rd-and-long in the playoffs in 2017. He doesn't learn from his past.

I mean seriously - 10 playes, 75 yards, 2:25?!?!?!

Agree. Also, giving up that TD with 6 sec to go before halftime didn't help either.

I believe that drive was aided by a roughing the passer call on Barr. not Zim's fault here but he gets to passive way to often on his schemes.

It would be SO much better if the opposition would quit trying to win when they are playing us, the way we are playing you would think that other teams have access to quality NFL players, coaching staffs, money to pay those players so we can't sign them on the cheap etc. In short you would think that there was a level playing field where the Vikings don't have all the advantages.

IOW you have no answer for Barr blatantly roughing the passer to keep that drive alive for a score.

The Raiders were inside the 3 yd line twice and came away with 0, Waller should have definitely scored on the pass up the seam. They had another RZ INT late. That game was closer then it wound up being the Raiders were able to push them around up front.

The media can continue to praise the Packers, they had no business beating the Lions last week. Their defense has come up with big plays, credit them for that, but they've been pushed around quite a bit on that side in recent weeks. Plus Lafleur is a big unknown for them. With that being said they will probably be 11 or 12 win team at this point.

Does anybody remember, back in 1991 I believe, when we played the Phoenix Cardinals 2 times in a 3 week span? I think we thumped them both times by around 28 points. I've always wondered why the weird schedule that year. I've never seen it since where you play a non divisional opponent twice in a year.

If you rewatch the Diggs supposed drop in the end zone---he almost quit on his route and then tried to catch up again.

The defender also grabbed (or hacked on) one of Diggs arms which IMO didn't allow Diggs to get his arms up (or at least that arm) in coordination otherwise Diggs most likely makes that catch. That said, I think that is a catch Thielen still makes given the exact same PI circumstances.

It looked to me like he was trying to deceive the DB with late hands/changed gears rather than "quitting" on the route and then "unquitting." Diggs is not some horrible person with a bad attitude; people act like he's a cross between Antonio Brown and Roberto Duran.

Diggs is a good guy. Went with Thielen to injury tent. Throws and catches passes to/from kids before game. He is an emotional guy.....just has to keep them more in check at times.

Anyone else worried that DET DBack was going to tomahawk ball out of his hands on last big play? Nice to see that he felt the guy coming and covered up with two hands.

Actually the defender realized he was going to be chasing Diggs for a while before he could get a good punch at the ball, decided to grab at Diggs jersey, Diggs felt that and THEN covered up with 2 hands.

Found this:

It was a quirk of the scheduling rules and the division alignments of the time. Each team was scheduled to play the teams from the other two intraconference divisions that finished in the same position from the previous year. The Vikings finished in 5th place in the NFC Central in 1990, so they would be scheduled to play the 5th place teams from the NFC East and NFC West in 1991. However, the NFC West only had four teams, so the Vikings were scheduled to play the 5th place team in the NFC East twice.

The same thing happened in the AFC that year. The AFC Central only had 4 teams, so the the 5th place teams in the AFC East and West played twice (New England and Denver).

For a HC that wants to emulate guys like Billy B our guy should watch how Bill plays a good lead into the 2nd half of a game...

The Patriots dont let up, they dont go into a shell, playing soft zone prevent trying to get cute thinking that they will let the other team chew up clock plodding down the field... In todays game just giving the other team momentum is a huge mistake... Keep going after them instead of letting up and a couple crazy plays and all of a sudden youve let a team have hope and things snowball...

Was beyond agrivating watching us play that damn prevent D yesterday and seeing Stafford burn us for 10 and 11 right down the field and a couple desperation plays and they score... Keep going after them, demoralize the team and make it clear there is no hope in getting back into the game. Coaching and playing Prevent makes our guys complacent and let up, it showed...

Yeah that's what burned me up. The Lions offense played awesome yesterday and I have to give them credit. Our players weren't on our A game on the defense. It happens. But to just let them score like that was ridiculous! 2 minutes for 10 plays leaving 4 minutes left. Awful strategy that hopefully Zimmer learns from.

Don’t like the soft defense with a lead either. Dont know any fan that would.

But ...

2-3 games ago Charles Davis made the on-air comment that Zimmer has an outstanding record playing with a lead ... I’m not sure - I looked through different stat sites but could not confirm or deny ... to compare with other coaches.

Its sure as hell frustrating for a fan ... although I believe its playing the law of averages.

That notwithstanding I'll spend some time rereading what I've been posting and do some reflection and self-inventory per your suggestion.

Kirk Cousins leads the NFL in QB passer rating with a mark of 114.3 and also leads the NFL in yards per attempt at 9.1 (per Jason Wisniewski of Vikings Spin)

Wasn't sure he was worth ext at the time based on his previous seasons.

So you think there is any difference between the teams? Jets vs Lions? It is easy to say lets throttle teams but on the road against the Lions I will take a win.

The #Vikings have allowed a grand total of three sacks and 16 pressures over the past three games.

They allowed six sacks and 21 pressures in Week 4 alone.

The offensive line deserves a TON of credit for the current three-game win streak.

No question in my mind. OL play is the most vital part of our success. We've got some of the best offensive skill players in football. They just need a little operating room.
