We can designate Reiff a post June cut and save 11M. 4.4 would be spread over two years.

The #Vikings have recently been linked to Phillip Dorsett with a hole at WR. Should they pursue him?

The Vikings seem poised to make a move or two after restructuring Hunter's contract and apparently letting Griffen walk. Some of my top targets:

• OG: Van Roten, Kline, Person
• WR: Perriman, Dorsett, Anderson, Sharpe
• CB: Robey-Coleman, Rhodes, Cockrell

It's really a matter of whether Reiff plays LT or G. I just don't see how they can get rid of him, financially.

Wouldn't we save 8.8M on cap?

financially it would be helpful, but we just can't take another hit on the o-line - losing kline is already a step backwards....

i too, have read about kline and possible concussion issues, but i have also read that spielman tried to get him to restructure and that there's a chance he'll come back - i just didn't see the urgency of cutting him in the first place...elflien has been a disaster the last two seasons and we could have saved more cap space cutting him.....

He had great potential, but never made anything out of it. He could barely get on the field for his last team was it the Patriots or was he moved. Vet minimum I would give him a shot, but not a penny more.
EDIT: He had 29 receptions last year only catching 53% of his targets. He had a good 13.7 YPR and had an adequate 5 tds in a limited role. After further consideration I stick with my original vet minimum contract recommendation.

I don't get the thing about Kline coming back since we are taking the dead cap hit either way unless I'm mistaken. Am I mistaken?

Despite other offers, OT Rashod Hill will be returning to the Minnesota Vikings for the 2020 season.

This is good news. He's better at LT than RT, but he can give you solid effort. Obviously won't ever be an elite tackle in the NFL, but he can be serviceable.

When your free agency strategy feels like trying to squeeze one last little bit of toothpaste up from the bottom of a flattened tube ... rejoice in that little blob.

Yea, I realize when I say something like "this is good news" it sounds like I might be making a big deal out of it, but really Hill had to play a couple of times last year for Reiff and played solid in his absence. I don't think he's as good a Reiff or our answer to the starting LT spot, but he is a good LT backup for now and cheap. At this time, that's good news. We are pretty much out of money until the restructures get finished, I feel it's better than him leaving.

I liked Kline, but he wants to start somewhere and make starters money. I believe I saw somewhere last year that he is one concussion away from being shelved, something like that. But they did try to sign him, he just didn't seem to want to budge from his pay structure. I can't blame him, but if Samia is ready to step in to that spot and maybe a couple of our other young guys are making progress behind the scenes, Kline might be relegated to a backup roll, we'll see.

I think the Vikings right now are about out of money and only have a couple restructures left that make sense. If it's true that Hunter has restructured, great, now probably Smith and depending on what happens with Harris, that is where the only FA money will come from. Then we have to hope that some of these guys like Watts, Holmes, Samia, Collins, Udoh, Hollis, Johnson or Davis, Boyd Hughes or Hill. Irv Smith, C. Smith at LB/ST's. These guys need to step up, put on the big boy pants and get in the actions or this team will finish 8-8, 7-9 at best. But if they are ready to contribute like professionals, maybe we compete. We'll see!

We need these guys for the slot!

Clemson, 5097 192 4.38. From Charlotte, NC and has never been a full time starter at Clemson but has been a valuable reserve. This includes coming off the bench in the national championship game and playing solid while Alabama went after him. Discipline issues and injuries have factored into only six starts in his career. Has blazing speed for the position and flashes cover skill. Reactive lining up close to receivers. Shows foot quickness to cut off route breaks. Rarely gives up leverage. In off man can get out of his pedal, turn and run, and stay with vertical routes. Recovers well if separated on a cut. Can be disruptive and lock a receiver out on the sideline. Flashes ball skills getting to the catch point running with a vertical. Can be physical tackling with an explosive strike and finish. Can separate a receiver from the ball with a big hit.

Texas, 5114 201 4.45. Three year starter from Gilmer, TX. Became a starter early in his sophomore year and has progressed ever since. Has experience in a variety of coverage including press and off man, Cover 2, deep outside third and quarter. As a press corner is reactive with short quick steps to mirror off the line. Normally doesn’t give up leverage. Will use his body to ride a receiver on the sideline. Can cut off route breaks and has the speed to stay in phase up the field. In off coverage plays with bend and has a quick choppy pedal. Plays with proper cushion and can time turn and run to stay in phase. Physical as a hard corner with a two hand jam to reroute. Sinks under deeper routes in the zone and is quick to react up to flat routes. Has a burst on his plant and drive. Flashes ball skills with high point ability on the interception. Has made some plays sinking in Cover 2. Disrupts the catch point when in phase. Breaks up a lot of passes. Tough in run support. Takes on stalk block with an inside punch and shed working to the ball. Second effort to get in on tackles. Will chase. Bends his knees and can lay a hit.

Fields and Boyd.

Actually, I wasn't suggesting that your remarks were over enthusiastic ... just the opposite, any signing / progress at this point is welcome. I'm glad to have Hill back, I know its hard to get excited about a back-up OL in March but a decent back-up swing tackle is critical, depending on injuries, through the course of the season. If there is a season.

It was about chance to start and play for hometown team for Will Parks. He took 1-year, $1.6 million deal with Eagles per source. Lions, Vikings had better offers. Lions moved on after acquiring Duron Harmon from Pats on Wed. Kubiak's Vikings also came in strong. #9sports

Frustrating to miss out on scrubs. Sounds like we are putting offers on guys, just not enough to close any deals.

more clarity on kline....

Chris Tomasson@christomasson
I stand corrected on this. #Vikings cut Josh Kline before the third day of new league year, when his $1.8 million was to be guaranteed for this season. So they carved out $3.369 million of cap room by releasing Kline.

Chris Tomasson@christomasson
Site OvertheCap has adjusted #Vikings salary cap page with clarification Josh Kline didn't get his $1.8 million guarantee for 2020 It lists Vikings as having $13.956 million of cap room with $2.666 million dead money on Kline That's before Rashod Hill deal

It makes a hell of a lot more sense now. Still doesn't sound right, but at least it's excusable.

Another CB hits the free agent market. A year ago he got a three year extension and today he gets released. He must have had a bad year, plus the contract must have been a bit out of line. The thing is that the Jets are extremely thin at corner, but released him anyway. The guy is fast and tall. At his pro day he ran a 4.36 40 yard dash, but that was 5 years ago and he is a six footer.

He had a down last year due to injuries, but he was only 26. I don't know how much he went for, but maybe too much for the Vikings. He is another six footer who can run. He did a 4.42 40 at his combine.

At this point, there is simply no OL FAs to sign as a starter (OL Van Roten just signed with Panthers) so its either via trade or draft or internal promotion that we 'fix' our OL. We could resign Klein as a fall-back [wish we would] and /or someone could get released during the offseason but not sure those are viable 'plans'.

My top 3ish wishlist remaining from the top 100 FAs nfl.com:

CB Logan Ryan
Expect to hear Ryan floated as a Honey Badger type capable of transforming a secondary with his coach-like instincts and intelligence as a versatile back-end leader.
(2019 – 16GS 73T 4.5SACKS 4INTs 4FF)

DE Markus Golden (to compete with Odenigbo and draftee for starter/rotational)
One of 2019 free agency's best bargains, Golden is back on the market after a 10-sack season with the Giants.
(2019 – 16GS 37T 10SACKS)

WR Breshad Perriman
In a market lacking depth, Perriman could benefit from being one of the only deep threats available.

OR

WR Demarcus Robinson
A bit of a tease as the fourth or fifth option in Patrick Mahomes' aerial attack, Robinson tended to disappear outside of a truly promising showing as Tyreek Hill's September stand-in.

EDIT: Signing a CB -OR- WR and trading for an OL would help tremendously moving into the draft.

Another CB is being made available. I don't know how good he is, but any CB should catch our interest.

Artie Burns - signed by Bears.

Bummer. This guy had an unbelievable year for Pittsburg couple years back. Then lost his starting job. Young. I always thought Zim might be able to turn him around.

Here's another free agent WR who may be available. What do you think? He would be pretty cheap, I believe.

If his suspensions were only pot related and the league is far more lenient on pot now what the heck.
