This like meat to me. Good stuff with tough analysis on some of the players we have liked. Reading this makes me think that Jones or Ruiz are truly the only offensive linemen we should select in the first round, assuming the top four OT's are gone, as expected.

https://www.pewterreport.com/ledyards-2020-nfl-draft-top-15-offensive-tackle-rankings/

With Bectem having a positive drug test at the combine he could be in play.

I don't think so, but perhaps the cost to trade up for him will be more affordable.

Laremy Tunsil dropped from #1 to #13 when the gas mask pic was revealed

It depends on what drug he tested positive for. If Heroin or meth he could drop out of the first round. If Marijuana probably not too far.

Candidates in positional groups and our needs seem to fit well with Spielman's M.O. of grouping players. Obviously he can bail on a pick and trade down with that setup, but much harder to trade up as it's based on guessing what other teams are expected to do plus he loses draft capital.

WR - Top tier gone and too pricy to trade up. Upper tier in play at 22 and 25 then all but gone by 58.
OG - May be down to one-two players at 22-25. If they are gone, it's maybe down to 3rd round and beyond.
CB - Definitely getting one at 22 or 25. Maybe another by the end of day two.
DE/DT. Mid to late third round types.

> Trade down in the first to allow a trade up from 58.
> Try to keep the third round picks, maybe move up with a pick from 2021, etc.

Jake Reeds son was an All-American safety at Georgia, but he's not rated high. Might not have what's needed for the NFL. Still pretty cool though.

Take Thaddeous Moss, J.R. Reed, and Winfield Jr. !!!!

NFL rules have changed since then.

Still a red flag no matter how you spin it

Most people agree with have 3 primary needs.

WR, CB, G

A secondary need, at least in my opinion is DE.

Most people agree the draft is deep in WR.

Most people agree there are no G's worth a #1. Do we draft a C or T and make them a G or move Reiff?

Big unknown: Ant. Is he a Viking this year? If not, S becomes a big need, not just a depth need.

Ideally I'd like to address CB and OL in 1st, if the value is there, and get WR in 2nd and maybe another in 4 or 5. Go DE and S in 3rd. A 2nd CB wouldn't be an awful idea either, in later rounds.

However, I have strong doubts that a 1st round value will be there for OL as a G, so I could see us go CB, WR in 1st and find the G in 2nd. Anyway we do it, Spielman needs to hit those 3 picks.

I think DT is a much greater need than DE.

DT: Pierce, Stephen, Watts, Hercules, JJ, Holmes

DE: Hunter, Odenigbo, Zettel

What about if they switch to 3-4?

Then we are moving up for Chaisson.

Yeah it hasn’t seemed to hurt Tunsil’s production.

If it’s Mary Jane I don’t see it affecting his draft status much.

I’d be very happy to be able to draft him.

Honestly I think there is some fire to this Trent Williams smoke.

We can go largely BPA the rest of the way as long as they are CB, WR, Int OLine. 😉

Yea, I think there might be something to the Williams talk too.

Williams
Ruiz
Bradbury
Samia
O'Neal

Id take that as my starting line any time! Of course, I am thinking that both Samia and Bradbury make significant strength gains, but that is generally the case after the first year. Some of our young players from the past couple years are simply going to have to step up and get in the game, gotta have it!

I suggested that and was told in no uncertain terms Udoh is a tackle. But he might make a hell of a G in this offense. There are successful examples of dudes with his body type and athleticism converting and thriving.

Especially now. The COVID-19 discount. Meaning some things like MJ just don't matter. Besides, the league was against an overflowing dam so they changed their rules.

I don't know of any top players strung out on meth or heroin so IMO it was probably marijuana. I think the teams get to find out, but not sure.

Hell, even Randy Gregory will probably be back!

Do you have questions about the Vikings offensive line going forward? You might find your question and answer here.

Everyone is assuming it's maryjane but sounds more like it was a diluted sample that could be PED's. Doubt bectan at 360lbs already was chugging gallons of water before he stepped on the scale like these lighter guys were doing.

Who would you rather trade for if it was similar compensation? Thuney or Williams

Thuney: LG would be set and we could draft a LT (Jones, Jackson, Cleveland). Younger, no injury concerns. Also have Udoh.

Williams: Finally get the proven LT we need. We could still get Ruiz or a mid rounder for Guard. Injury concerns.

Reiff is gone or takes massive pay cut in both scenarios.

Brad I read some great things about the Oregon State QB (Jake Luton) who could be drafted later. The Athletic raves about him (Size, Arm, accuracy, and low int%). Thoughts?

Because I have my doubts he will be very good. Peterson spanking his kid too hard has nothing to do with it.

Not gonna lie, if Jordan Love is there at 22 I would take him.

Most grades on Love has him as a 2nd or 3rd round value. Taking him at 22 would be very poor draft value.

Brad I read some great things about the Oregon State QB (Jake Luton) who could be drafted later. The Athletic raves about him (Size, Arm, accuracy, and low int%). Thoughts?

His stats were incredible, but Browning's were even more incredible. From what I've read he just isn't very good despite the stats.
