By expanding the playoffs to 16 teams, MLB ruined the one built-in advantage they had with a shorter season. The importance of each game just dropped off a cliff.
A team could go 58-2 and lose two out of three games in the first round and be out.
Yeah, now you're gonna have sub-.500 teams in the playoffs that will have the opportunity to do that.
Beating the Indians or White Sox for 1st place in the division is close to meaningless. One or the other will also get in. Likely the Indians. Which sucks, if we beat them out fair and square in the regular season. Hell, they both might make it. They have the advantage of playing the Tigers, Royals and Pirates.
